Thank you my Inspection RV guy. 😊😊 We were camping at fort Stevens Oregon Just haul everything in my bed of 3500 Silverado. The Duramax started what sounded like over Rev. On the hills going down coming home. Now we live 100s of miles from Fort Stevens. When I raised the engine hood low and behind, there were 6 EYES staring at me on the very center top of Diesel.. I wish I could have got pictures. Anyway they built a bed on top of the engine. The little kids rode back home all the way from Fort Stevens. Why the Diesel higher RPM noise. The only wire they chowed through was the wire harness going to the AC line sensor. So the FAN was running more than it should. No more Engine higher noise when sensor wire repair. Moral of the story they will get in TOW vehicles, so not just Trailer prevention, make sure your tow vehicle is a mouse clear zone.

So true. Mice is not only a threat to your RV, but can be a problem you have to handle in your tow vehicle too. Thanks for mentioning that.

We've used Moth balls successfully every year for winter storage, we place them outside around the perimeter of the camper, my wife also likes to place some in cups inside the RV as a deterrent as well, (although i hate the smell of Moth Balls) we also sweep and clean the RV after each trip removing any crumbs of food that can linger and build up within the RV, Knock on wood we've never had an issue yet!

You forgot to mention getting a CAT the last time we had a couple of mice our cat took care of the problem. I have had to resort to all of the remedies that you mentioned. We all so had a problem with pack rats when we stayed in Quartzsite a couple of years ago, I got a live trap for them. But since we got our cat we have not had a problem with either.

Dealing with this now. I think they entered while I had the water heater out during the replacement. I'm trapping them now until the traps go empty. The store I worked at recommended Fresh Cab as a preventative. The shop there took half-eaten bars of Irish Spring out of the units that were stored there every spring. After the smell wears off, it's basically animal fat (food). Same thing with the dryer sheets. They work until the smell wears off, they they're beds. I got a tip from an exterminator to use an ultra violet flashlight at night to see the tracks and trace it back to the entry point.

I only use the old wooden spring traps with the old style copper bait arms and not the yellow plastic bait paddles. I bait them with a small piece of dog kibble "glued" down on the bait arm with peanut butter. I have had mice eat and use as nest material every non lethal smelly minty thing they sell in the stores including Bounce dryer sheets. Irish spring is another old wives tale, does not work. When it comes to rodents I want a body count, period.

I have used most of these methods for rodents in my shed except for the sound repellent. When it comes to the sound repellant, if you have pets it could me a problem. Probably no physical damage but imagine if you had a constant ringing in your ears & it didn't stop, you really wouldn't be too happy. Also, the possible problem with poison is if they wander out or die where an animal can grab them & eat them it's a potential problem for that animal especially if it's your family pet.

Pets do complicate mouse removal. So you have to take measures to make sure that your pet won't get harmed by the methods you use. Thanks for sharing those points here.

Good informative video. I use peanut butter myself for mice on both glue and traditional traps inside and poison around all of the out buildings to try and kill them before they even make it inside the house. I never heard of using a raisin on a trap. May have to try that.
@RVInspectionAndCare
@RVInspectionAndCare 10 ай бұрын
I got that suggestion from someone who has to get rid of a lot of mice from a field next door to his home. He said that some mice are very good about licking the peanut butter so carefully that it doesn’t set off the trap. But when he put the PB on a raisin they always go after the raisin and that sets the trap off. So far it has worked well for me.

I have often thought about putting a few traps outside but don't necessarily want to go this route. My thoughts are it may attract several more mice into the area where they will begin to explore a route in. I agree that sealing up every possible place where they might try to get in is the best proactive steps I can take. I keep all of my food stored in plastic containers and in the storage above cabinets where they cannot enter. Leaving a few traps set inside when it's not in use works for me for several reasons. One it tells me if I have mice that I didn't know about and two if I'm not around it will hopefully get them before they create too much havoc.

The only reason I put traps outside is I knew that we were in an area where lots of mice were already around so attracting them wasn’t an issue. They were already there. But I agree that you need to think carefully before putting outside traps with bait in them around your RV. Thanks for watching!

I agree 💯about using the spring traps. Especially in areas with wiring. They love to nibble the insulation. I have repaired or replaced numerous automotive wiring harnesses due to rodent damage. Expensive! The people who use the humane methods will think twice after paying for wiring repairs, trust me. Thanks for the video!

Mice love RV wiring as the jacket today is made with soy products........yum for them, expensive for repairs. I have seen on KZfaq the benefits of using a 50-50 mixture of baking soda and corm meal. The baking soda does in the mice as they can't handle it, but it is safe for pets and humans. Trying it out now.

Using Irish Spring soap shavings for mice prevention is one of those ideas that seems to work well for some and not at all for others. I have no explanation about why that is the case. But one thing I know is that one application of the shavings will not do the job. The scent wears off eventually and they have no aversion to it. So if you choose to use the strong scents mentioned in this video just be prepared to keep replacing them with fresh scent on a regular basis to have success.

It seems that the methods that rely on strong odors to repel mice must be regularly replaced as the odors wear off with time. And if they aren't replaced often mice actually get to used to eating them or making their bed in it.
