This has been one of my worst days for quite awhile. Zaps of intense anxiety, but sometimes they are fleeting, so that's good. Trying to remind myself to not get discouraged, that it's a non-linear journey, etc. Then noticed an email from Shaan and ended up here. Feeling much mellower right now. (Thanks, Shaan!) Sometimes it's just good to get some validation and know you're not alone. - Give your dog a big hug! Lately, I notice I'm envying people with dogs. ;-)

Yes! Habits are tricksters! They create mental grooves that can catch at random times. I've been experiencing weird intrusive thoughts that I haven't struggled with for years which makes it feel that much more intense. I just keep reminding myself that I have a very creative mind and that these habitual thinking patterns are just something I've invented. There is no authority "outside" myself telling me these things, so I dont have to believe these disturbing thoughts. It helps me to shift my focus and let these thoughts float away easier.

@vinylg3421 I think it's part of the whole acceptance thing. When the fear of it coming back no longer matters because you know if it does, you'll know how to deal with it, then I think you can call that recovery. Everyone gets anxiety and weird thoughts from time to time, and if we normalize that fact and not freak out over it, then our bodies will calm down. I think as time passes and we get desensitized, the risk of falling back in gets less and less.

Thank you Shaan. I had an panic attack right this morning after 35 days. But the intensity was very lower than the previous ones. Also the last week was full of negative thoughts and Derealization and Depersonalization. But I managed to overcome them. I believe that I am getting better little by little. Along with medication and acceptance, I am seeing a good change in myself.

Having some fairly intense spikes today, and off and on over the last couple days … just as I thought I was almost out of the woods. Well, hurray! Another opportunity to practice responding more skillfully. Thanks for the reminder! At least these feelings no longer freak me out; but, they're definitely unpleasant and it's easy to get discouraged if I'm not careful. Anyway, if nothing else comes out of this, I have no choice but to learn to be more patient. That doesn't come easy for me! (Haven't watched any of your videos for several weeks, but good to know you're close at hand; the emails are a good reminder.)

This video just came at the right time for me. Been doing so well but last few days I've had a bit of a setback. So what did I do? Panicked, oh here it goes again, how long will it last? Why? After seeing this video I told myself to do what I'd do on a good day. So I got up, had breakfast, walked the dog, did my chores. Yes I still feel the nausea, panic etc but it didn't stop me living my day. Maybe the more I can do this the less the setbacks will be. Don't let your monkey mind ruin your day because that's all it is. Thank you Shaan for keeping me sane and helping me understand.

@@Shukke1992what if when you caught Covid, you didn’t really feel any fear? I feel like it stressed my body out, and unfortunately our bodies have a limit, and it took it over mine, which means I was already experiencing stress before I got Covid, and stress causes anxiety, depression, and insomnia, and messes with your hormones which effects your hair, how long it takes to recover is the question, I noticed over the summer that heat now is viewed as stress and raises cortisol levels, which is why I have physical anxiety symptoms in the heat, I’m not saying I wasn’t fearing the virus in 2020 but weren’t we all

Sounds all too familiar. In spite of having more anxiety than usual lately, I hopped on a bus on Sunday and went to San Francisco to roam around a bit. Beautiful views and great food, etc. But, at one point I almost lost my balance as I was walking down the sidewalk. Was afraid somebody might notice and think I had been drinking a bit too much. At my age (75), I know balance can be an issue, but I'm usually just fine. That day it was just a couple brain zaps that made me wobbly.

Medication for anxiety and panic is an example of trying to "fix" anxitey. Fixing is one of the "five Fs" that get people stuck in the spiral of panick and anxiety.. the more you try to "fix and resist" anxiety, the more it stays. Well ofcourse i by no means am underestimating the calming effects of medicine, but i know that even if you calm down, you will always have intrusive thoughts regarding your Medications such as( am i gonna be on these meds forever? How will i ever stop?). And these kinds of thoughts themselves keep you afraid (fear of symptoms is another one of the 5 Fs). So how can you overcome this without medication? Well.. i believe it is explained in this video and other videos about the idea of acceptance and the mistakes people make when they are "accepting". Acceptance works.. but it is a vague term kinda "in my opinion". People who are used on using escape and fixing mechanisms (which is literally anyone who is in the anxiety spiral) will always tend to use acceptance as an escape, they will have unrealistic expectations and will get frustrated when they "accept" and symptoms stay.. but the idea of acceptance is not to escape.. it is to acknowledge the symptoms, to understand why they happen (anxiety) and just let them do their thing.. you stop avoiding whatever you always tend to avoid and if symptoms come, you let them come, you slowly start to lose your fear of symptoms that way, and that is how you break the spiral, by losing the fear of symptoms, after you do that, your symptoms will disappear (takes a while , it is a habit that takes a long time to lose fear of symptoms). I hope this helps..

So first: indirectly yes, with puberty there come a lot of changes and new challenges. You might start to worry about things you didn't care about before. Secondly: Yes, it can be recovered but it takes time and a lot of patience and dedication. Third: No. Doesn't mean it can't be cured. And fourth: It depends on the individual.

How bad for me? It was so bad during the first few days (in February 2023) that I called suicide prevention three different days, and every agency they referred me to in order to try to find some help. Finally, on someone's recommendation, I went to emergency and got myself admitted to a psych ward. (I don't recommend it!) At least I got to see a psychiatrist and was put on meds. Anyway, that was a very terrifying experience. After discharge from the hospital, I was in a support group for awhile, where we eventually watched some videos about anxiety. Not very helpful, but went to KZfaq when I got home and eventually found Shaan. Finally I found information that was actually very useful! Doing much better now (macro perspective), but been having some anxiety attacks off/on the last few days. This video was very helpful, and I feel much calmer now than I did when I started watching it. Also, it's great to read the comments and remind myself that I am not alone in this. Neither are you.
