Dr Jones' friends dog, Monsieur Parneau, has a nasty hot spot that his owner thought was being treated correctly- but it was not getting any better. Some things were being done incorrectly. Here is what you need to do to correctly treat your dog's painful hot spot at home.

New subscriber. Found your channel on a search for how to treat hot spots at home. Information on how to treat minor issues at home is invaluable to my wife and I. We have three rescue dogs and it's not always feasible to go to the vet every time a simple issue comes up.Knowing the home treatments we use will actually work and not harm them gives us a peace of mind.

So glad that you use tea tree oil in your mixture as I have read recently after using it to clean a tick bite that it isn't good for dogs. Diluted I assume with the boiled water , black tea & aspirin it is not harmful to the dog but remembering that excessive licking should be avoided is that right? I am happy to share my good news Dr. Jones we have a new addition to our family an Alaskan Malamute puppy (6 months) named Sojou finally after our old girl Pinga an Alaskan Malamute too passed away last September 2017. I have a suggestion for another of your Veterinarian Secrets videos. I have not had an active puppy for a very long time and came to the realization that a well stocked holistic/natural remedy 1st aid kit is essential around the home. Could you tell us what are the top items needed in such a 1st aid kit ie: tea tree oil, lavender, apple cider vinegar , slippery elm, black tea,...and the list goes on.This would be invaluable as a pet owner. Many thanks fingers crossed you will do it!!!! Barbara

Huge issue for the rescued pups in our area. Cheap dog food, unseasonably warm temps, and stress seems to be making the skin issues worse. (PROBIOTICS on an empty stomach do incredibly good things - for the inside and out of our doggies. Thanks for that info) If the hot-spots are where it can be licked is it still ok to use Tea Tree Oil or should I use Neem? Black tea and aspirin, simple and works. Thank you Monsieur Parneau and Dr Jones! Have a happy and safe holiday weekend!

What if the hotspot/s are on your dog's belly areas where it can be hard to get airflow to cuz ur dog keeps laying down all the time.if u r home all the time then it would be easier to keep your dog from laying down alot.but yeah when your dog lays down i feel like that moist environment is very encouraged by laying down cuz the folds of skin under there rnt getting enough air.

I have an Airedale myself, who also had a hot spot that looked identical to Monsieur Parneau's, but on top of his head. We took him to our vet for treatment (shave, flush, oral antibiotic and a spray x7 days). However, a few weeks later, with the skin now healed and fur growing back, he's left with a dark patch of skin where the hot spot was. Is this typical of Airedales while their skin heals?

Hi Dr. Jones I have a suggestion for a video. My dachshund is 17 I have 2 more but the oldest is a stomach cancer survivor. Has yeast issues, gas in excess, bad teeth and breath, constipation all the time, allergies, reverse sneezing, respiratory issues, sweeling of the joints, and hind end issues. She has recently been diagnosed with vaginitis, UTI, and started to have incontinence issues. Her urine smells awful and it burns her skin and pads on her feet. We have been using Super Duper Diaper Doo. Works well. She has been on antibiotics, anti itch, benedryl almost her whole life. I have come to realize her diet is terrible for her health and she obviously has gut disbiosis. She is constantly getting sick and has terrible allergies (runny nose, eyes drainage, eye swelling, and the mucous tends to move to her chest eventually). She was on benedryl for years (6). I slowly removed the benedry but not sure what to give her in its place. I have been trying to turn to natural medicine when possible. I have been reading about detoxing your pet and doing cleanses. I recently bought your supplement waiting for it to arrive. I learned they have trouble taking in nutrients, vitamins, and minerals when the gut is full of mucous or mucoidal gunk in the intestines. I have been wanting to put them on a raw food diet but currently cannot afford it. I have been feeding them 20% veggies fruits, flax, dill, NingXia Red and, kefir. I realize that they need the raw food diet and am applying for another job to be able to provide it and chiropractic work.. However, I want to detox my pets naturally and safely. I cannot afford the detox programs you find on animal health sites. I know that certain foods help remove toxins and parasites. I have read that pumpking seeds, black seeds, and papaya seeds, can help to eliminate worms and parasites. I have been doing my research to do a good detox for them, however, my boyfriend is terrified that she will die if we put her through a detox. I will admit that I am nervous. i do not want to hurt her or put her through a hard detox. I feel it should be gentle and slow for her bc of her age. I did use Frankincense (YL) on her leg once and it ozzed with puss for days. It would swell up to three times the size. After the EO application she did have a fever for two days but never again did her leg swell up. I had made it a 2% dilution understanding she is fragile and I did not want to hurt her. I have slowly built up their systems with NingXia Red. I use a lot of EOs already around them and do not want to over load them. I am not trained to work with pets for EO application but have been with people. I have found a lot of relief for them with EOs but not so sure I'd want to do a detox with them. I do plan to give her better probiotics. I have read about ACV, zeolite, and phillum husk. There is so much info out there and sometimes it's contradictory. Would you please make a video about how to safely detox your pets? I have a cat as well and find that she cannot have many of the foods you would give to a dog. I would greatly appreciate any info about detoxing a cat as well since cats can't have the same foods as dogs it would be great to know what we can give them for parasites and natural detoxing. Thank you Dr. Jones for all you do. God Bless you.

Andrea Singletary you might try Diatomacious Earth for the internal parasites. Just sprinkle it on their food. Read about it. You can try bathing in Epsom Salts BUT do NOT let them drink it!! It can cause diarrhea. If they are on city water, get them off of it. Bottled or spring water. You can use Diatomacious Earth (DE) to kill fleas. Sprinkle it on the carpet, bedding, & it kills roaches, and all sorts of bugs. See if your community has free or reduced fee clinics in your area. Call the extension office or your county mayor. Stop all the multiple treatments! Use 1 for a week. Then see how it's working. Your food is one of the biggest problems! If you can , just feed the dog boiled chicken. If allergic to chicken try pork or beef. But remember, when you switch foods do it gradually. Mix new into old. Gradually making it all new. Get a tub of good yogurt, with all the probiotics in it like plain Stoneyfield yogurt. Less Sugar's. And lastly, NEVER give up!! Bee Blessed

is it ok to put the aspirin in at the beginning? I heated water to boiling, put in the tea bag, and then added the aspirin. before I added it, I put the aspirin in the electric coffee mill I use for spices, cleaned beforehand of course. Now I am letting the tea with aspirin continue to cook on low heat on the stove as you recommended. I am just concerned if the aspirin will lose its mojo if I put it in at the beginning.

I need help ASAP. My dog suddenly out of no where had sudden pain by the tail/back area. And ever since then randomly he bites that area so much he tears his fur and skin off. I took him to the vet and they said it was allergies but there’s no way it can be that. We were treating him with the medicine they gave us and the area where he bit himself healed but the pain never went away. If I grab him on that area he lets out a huge cry as if it’s super painful to be grabbed there. How did the vet not catch this and what could it be?

My Bichon is very sensitive to many things (grains, chicken) and she loves to lick a certain paw to the point of making it sore. I have been told that it could be the treatments that the bug people put on the grass, but she hates grass and only is in it about 20 seconds - 4 times a day. Is it possible that her paw is a constant hot spot that she won't let heal. I use a hydrocortisone spray and she will leave it alone for awhile, but when I am not looking she starts to lick it again. Sometime it does get a chance to heal up, but it seems to always be the same back paw, mystery ?

You don't want the paw to get granula lick. She may be doing it out of boredom or self soothing. I'd be putting a cone on so the dog cannot get at it ill i heals and to break the habit. Veterinary Secrets Hi dr. I have a 13 month white boxer puppy Luna when I got her at 8 weeks I noticed a couple bumps and scratches on her head the owner said it was them playing. About 2 weeks later I noticed she had lumps in her neck about 4 all from quarter to dime size. I thought possibly her lymph nodes.I took her to our vet he put her on antibiotics. Her bumps spread got worse and started to travel down her chest. Yesterday I took her in she is positive for demodex the dr said it was a severe case. She is taking.04 ml of ivermectin today was her first day within 24 hours her side is very inflamed feels rough like leather. I called the dr he said it may get a bit worse before better I’m just afraid she was having a reaction to the meds. Any baths or topicals you can suggest as well. I just lost my beloved boxer of 12.5 years then we brought Luna home and are dealing with this I’m scared Thank you

Quick question for you, should I still gently wash the scab with the solution? Thank you so much. You’re videos are a lifesaver. 🏆🙏🏻🩵

Hi Dr. Jones, Im so desperate looking for a video how to treat hot spots on dogs and I just find your channel. I have a 3 years old German Shepard who has serious skin issues, for the last 3 years of his life we’re been taking him to the emergency because he gets those nasty hot spots and we try different medications purchased at Petco , PetSmart, etc. , and they don’t work, or maybe it’s not the right way to do it. Last year exactly on 9/11/22 we took our dog to a emergency clinic for the same hot spots and the infection was really bad, horrible odor like rotten meat, it was bad. They charged me $2700 to take care of him, and now we are on May/2023 , 8 months later and the infection is back again. Two days ago I started noticing he was scratching a lot on the back of his neck and on the right side of the stomach, yesterday I saw him at night and he already has that wetness on the area he scratched and the smells. Today in the morning before me going to work I went to check on him and it’s getting worse really fast. I’m in Los Angeles, CA, it’s hard to buy medicine for the dogs without a prescription, what medication you will recommend over the counter that I could get?

My dogs hot spot became very infected.. and its huge... 6 in round.. there is a small 1/2 in area that seems to be an infected like pocket on his back hip.. I will use as directed al that u shared in this video .. I am soo against antibiotics.. is there something that I can give internally to help w this infection .. also .. I used a colloidal silver gel that became hard .. and the fur I was not able to remove is now hard and stuck to wound.. what would u suggest to help soften this area and to wash the gel off .. I will appreciate all help you can share .. I know that the vet will only prescribe antibiotics .. because thats all they know and I no way want that ,, he has recurring ear infections .. I walked away from all Drs and healed from stage 4 lung cancer now 8 years ago .. so I KNOW natural health is POWERFUL ♥

I am feeling a bit upset that our little doggy looks like Frankenstein because we look her to the Humane Society Vet in June for what I believe now was a hotspot and then again in early December and she had surgery twice now for "fox tails". I told them that we don"t let her walk around to get fox tails. They searched through surgery and found nothing! Four incisions, pain and suffering for my doggy and many dollars later, she is still oozing from the incisions. Can this still be a hot spot gone crazy? We are waiting on lab results. Our doggy is a 13 year old Shih Tzh. When I asked about the lab results they told me that we had to wait longer to see if there was growth because a week later there was nothing yet??! Thanks for your info. I wish I could take my dog to you. Boo.

Dr Jones...just curious what is the difference between hot spots and a yeast infection? My dog has been suffering for years with a yeast infection (smells like corn chips), she’s on a raw meat diet, consistently licking herself...recently she has dark patches on her skin that get raw. Can I use this same treatment for her (black tea and aspirin) If you could do a video on this that would be great

Bina Volpe My Shih Tzu had one and I gave her baths (every 3rd day) in John Paul tea tree dog shampoo (at Petco) then rinsed with a diluted apple cider vinegar 4 parts water to 1 part apple cider vinegar. Gone in a week and never came back because I bathe her once every other week in this for prevention. She's 10 years old.

Actually, he has done previous videos with this method 8 and 6 years ago. It’s just the aspirin not breaking down as it may be the product - to me it looked like he was expecting the aspirin to break down as they usually do. My take out on this is that he has consistently used the same basic formula of black tea and aspirin so it must work. AND there are a lot of positive comments from subscribers.
