I'm currently part time and my day looks pretty much like hers. I was informed a while ago that I will be losing my job at the end of the year. I've decided that I'm going to take a few months off before looking for another job so during that time, I'm going to give full time a go.🤞

My college age daughter said she has no budget to start selling anything good online. I asked her to make her own coffee for a month or two NO STARBUCKS . She saved $300 and turned that into $1500 using her gift for knowing what shoes and colognes to buy. I wish I had her energy with my know-how lol. She's definitely part-time though and will stay that way for quite awhile.

Don't start your own business at first. Try selling unwanted items in your house first and see how it goes. If you have an inkjet printer use that to print labels. Another option is get the QR code and the Post Office will print the label for you.. Source boxes and packing material in your own neighborhood when recycling is taken out.

Reselling has been a wonderful way to supplement my current income. I couldn’t imagine quitting my job and just putting everything into it. I could imagine, unless you get really lucky with the picks you get, the amount of capital you need is very high. Personally, I believe that if I were to put more effort into reselling I would be able to cover all my living expenses. With that being said, I’m a frugal individual. I’m a believer in following your dreams, but with the current economy, it may be worth grinding it out while working full time. Late nights, holidays, and sacrificing time with friends and family may be a sacrifice that’s necessary. A lot of factors to consider. You gave great advice! If it’s worth it, take the chance!!!

I wrote a book about this once. I went from employment to a full-time entrepreneur also a few years ago. My best advice is to work a part-time job or do eBay on the side or wherever you want to do until you can make half the salary you need on the side while you're still working your regular job. Then gradually move toward making 3/4 of your salary that you need. This way, when you actually quit the full-time gig, you will be able to easily step up from 3/4 of your salary to a full amount that you are used to.

I was a paralegal. The attorney I worked for moved to Belize. I collected unemployment while I boosted my reselling business. I also worked for paychex Jan -march during their tax time getting forms out to clients etc. I was lucky I had no debt during this time and was able to build my business up. I haven’t worked an outside job since 2013.

As a full time reseller for 20+ years something that most do not think of is the 1099-K and taxes owed taking away from gross profits. So a $1500 monthly profit in reality is only roughly about $1000. Still a good amount of net profit, but be sure to put money aside for when tax season rolls around

@@RockstarFlipper This is only true if people have been reporting their income under the $20k plus 200 transactions threshold. IRS has been pushing off the new $600 threshold the last couple of years. You made videos about this very topic

But I think what they mean is people tend to forget when they're working for themselves that you've got the 1099 thing and sometimes they forget to put aside money for the self employment taxes because they're used to their employer doing it.@@RockstarFlipper

@@RockstarFlipperBut she has a good point because taxes are withheld from a paycheck, so you don’t really see it. If you compare your net paycheck to your net eBay profits BEFORE taxes, you’re gonna get burned.

This video came out at the pefect time, im putting in my 2 weeks notice next week...im so done and tired of working for the man, making them rich plus my company is heading in the wrong direction and are having layoffs...i seem to get laid off every job i have had after working at them 10+ years. Im reasy to at least try working for myself or i will forever regret it if I dont. Now that my wife is on disability she makes more than what i bring home a month at my job so we can live on that , plus whatever income we get from ebay, our 3 antique booths , the flea market and craft shows we do, hopefully we will be ok. My biggest concern is finding health insurance , looks like obamacare (ugh) may be my best cheapest choice since i will qualify for discounts or subsidies. I jabe tons of inventory and can vet alot more listed not being at work 8 hrs a day and will save on gas too not drivinf 60 miles round trip eaxh day. I am nervous and a bit scared but i gotta give it a try.

if you already make more than $50k at a regular job DO NOT QUIT. You won't make more on ebay unless you work crazy hours.

@RockstarFlipper IF you have excellent and consistent ways to source. Just running to thrifts n yard sales don't cut it usually. People that make real money have real plugs. It's the biggest reason why more ppl don't make good money

It sounds like she has a good start. Next steps I would recommend: Cross list Learn how to bulk list Also, is it possible to cut back hours at work a little at a time? Eventually, she probably won't be working enough for benefits and that's going to be another hurdle to cross.

Honestly, it's risky, but unless she quits her job, she may never be able to get her reselling business up to a full-time level. I say, if she is confident in her ability to source and resell, just do it. Life is short and sometimes you just have to take risks to obtain the life you desire. If she's not comfortable doing that, sacrifice a week's vacation and run a trial doing it full-time for a week, analyze the results, and maybe that helps you make a decision.

I am in the same situation. Work full time Monday through Friday. Only have a few hours during the week to list items. I source on the weekend and try to organize …. It’s very difficult but I will not give up ❤

It sounds like what she needs to do is to spend less time sourcing. She needs to use her profits, get a storage unit and find a reputable pallet place to buy a pallet, and run some Whatnot shows from there or her house, and spend the other weekend day packing up.

1. Never quit your job! 2. These thrift stores and yard sales are a HUGE waste of time (they are also selling on EBay) 3. Win a bid on a storage unit 4. Wash, Clean, research your items from storage unit 5. List and post, even if it means you’re a little tired at your desk job. At least you’re not a construction worker, so there’s that! 6. Whatever you deem unsellable, just give it away for free or donate to any organization that won’t resell it (ensure it will be used by someone in actual need!)

Im a Respiratory Therapist and I didn’t quit my job instead I cut my hours due to healthcare burnout and resell full time… this works perfect for me which i love the flexibility… when my ebay is slow i can also pick up extra shifts at work

Don't quit your job. I have been doing this for last 4 years and lately my sales have decreased by 50% since end of 2023 (because of economy). While I work hard at it and work several hours EVERY day - I don't make a living on it. I do have other incomes so I just mainly do it to pay the utilities. Wait until the economy comes back before you make drastic changes.

ALSO - it is important that she doesn't stress out about making money. It takes time to build up and she will get burned out. I remember when I looked forward to a no sale day - just to have a free day from ebay. Now, my thoughts are the opposite - I need & want sales everyday since my sales have been low the last 8 months (I think because of the economy). But it is like any job - there are times you get discouraged or burned out by listing so much and only getting a few sales each day! Now if I get one sale each day then that is a plus during this economical downturn.

I myself am small potatoes. Any advice on finding wholesalers who would work with someone who is just a smaller reseller? I do shelf pulls and signed up with one wholesaler I will get goods from from time to time, but it’s hard to find good deals with them.

Will anything bad happen to by sales if I didn't list for a couple weeks? I'd like to take a break from sourcing and increasing my inventory and taking up more space and try to work on moving what I have especially older items. But it seems like if I don't list everyday I won't make sales?

Did you ask her if she's looking at her ebay sales on ebay? I use software that pulls my true profit, which is about 50%-60% of total sales now with promoted listings.

If I wasn't retired military with a pension, no way would I be doing reselling full time. I totally agree with taking your weekly payout amount, paying yourself then using what's left over to buy more inventory.

Not 8 hours per month? Where did you get that? She works at night time and weekends on reselling. Couple hours a night. 8-10, hours on weekends. She’s probably doing 30/40 hours total monthly on selling

worst advice ever from looking at the title. ebay is a terrible discriminatory platform. they take fees for selling, take fees for a reserve fee, take fees for refunding a buyer, take fees for promotions. why on earth would ebay be good when a slight issue or a report gets you banned immediately.
