Reading labels is the thing that stopped me eating crap. Couldn't find anything 'simple' so now I make things from scratch so I know what's in it. Best move ever, saves so much money as well.

Everything I see has hidden sugar, it hard to find food without hidden sugar. I have lost 40 pounds and reduced my insulin from 47 to 30 units, I have micro vascular heart disease,formally called syndrome X. I have had 2 heart attacks the first one was silent. I am trying to educate my endocrinologist, because he is still saying 3 meals a day and 2 snacks. I have your book, and look forward to your Video’s.

I can't imagine consuming chicken with so many ingredients, let alone with added sugar. Just get plain chicken meat and season it for yourself at home. We also make all our own condiments (relish, mustards, barbeque sauce etc.) since they then become nutritious accents to a meal without a bunch of unnecessary garbage added. Just about everything that comes out of a box, can, or jar from the grocery store is heavily processed, we won't eat any of that stuff in our house.

Decide what is really important to you, then make the time accordingly no matter what it takes. Like you, I work long hours. Six years ago we decided to ditch the rat race and the big cities (NYC and Barcelona Spain), "downsized" to the extreme to make the time for cooking from scratch, and have never been happier since then. That said, it takes a lot of work all right. With a sheep herd, 100+ birds (flocks of ducks, chickens, and turkeys), 16 raised 8'x4' vegetable beds and more to take care of, we learned what real work is -- not working for someone else, but for our own benefit. At 53 and 74 we're now off all prescription drugs despite what were significant health problems before, turns out just making the time to cook from scratch using food that we produce ourselves (a full time job all right) completely turned things around for us. It's about choices. The big paychecks are gone but we were always broke back in the money-days anyway. Now we're broke again, but much happier and healthier for it. We live in a 200 acre private homestead that cost much less upfront from buying a one bedroom condo in Southern California. My comment wasn't directed to "everyone... who has the time..." It was directed to those who may fantasize about making the time, then making that fantasy into a reality. We did, it feels good, the same is within reach of anyone who really wants it, and it's sad that you're so sour and negative while introducing yourself to a complete stranger. That said: Hi there Hells favorite angel mike! I was once married to a Hells Angel in the early 1990s (unfortunately that didn't work out), were you in the Club too?

Thanks for this video. I was grocery shopping at Walmart yesterday and I came across that same loaf of bread you picked, and read the list of ingredients. I to was surprised to see sugar on the list of ingredients and placed back that loaf of bread back on the shelf. My point is that I'm learning from watching your videos on KZfaq. However this particular video just solidified what I've learned from you. Thank you Doc. .

I found out the “organic does not mean 100% organic!!! The producers in their business established “law that if 30-40% of the ingredients are organic- that they have rights according to their business regulations to write on the label “ORGANIC” They simply mix 30% of the flour from organic sac with a regular non- organic flour... that’s sad... Someone I know worked on cheese distribution section, he said they got non organic cheese and cut it and packed for Fred mayer and the same slices of this cheese packed “organic cheese” for New Seasons, Choice Market and Whole foods.. I don’t believe in mean Oraninc..

It has gotten to the point that you can't trust a product is genuinely organic even if it says it is, unless it also has the USDA certified organic label on the front of the package. You do need to carefully read the list of ingredients to find out what is actually in it and hope that manufacturers are not just saying that in an attempt to get more people to spend money on their products. Scumbags; messing with our food supply like that.

Dr. Berg, thank you so much for your insightful videos! I've been following your suggestions for the past 5 weeks and feel a huge positive difference in the way I feel. My head is clearer, cravings are gone and I feel much more satisfied after meals. My question is about "frucrooligosaccharides". I have been taking Vital Reds by Gundry MD for several months. I love berries but don't always have a chance to eat them. My concern was - what sweetener does it use? Their customer service informed me that it uses frucrooligosaccharides. What is your opinion on this sweetener as it relates to insulin resistance? Thanks in advance! Mila

Here in Poland, I normally only buy sour cream on a farmers' market because nearly all the ones in stores have thickeners in them (not to mention the taste and the fat content). There is one commercial brand without any additives that I occasionally buy which is very tasty, though compared to the organic fresh cream from the market it's so light that it tastes like yoghurt to me - I can eat it in spoonfuls :). Those commercial creams (even the fattiest ones) don't come near the richness, density and fat content of the ones I buy from farmers.

The sunflower butter label said "And/or Canola oil" and just because the brand name is "Mom's Organic Market" Does not mean that the canola oil is organic. I did not see "Organic certification" anywhere on that label. The ingredients list does not state organic ingredients. The other item I would not use is the mustard. It does not state organic ingredients. The vinegar is more than likely made from GMO corn. Now, I don't know if the herbicides, pesticides, and twisted corn DNA/RNA make any kinds of toxic bombs in the distillation process or not, but I don't want to be that human test subject to find out. I have learned tons of good information from watching your videos. Thank you for all that you have done to educate about healthy choices. Cheers!

I find it almost impossible to find a good salad dressing at the grocery store. All are contaminated by soybean or canola oil and sugar.

Is there really any enforcement at all of product labeling? I'm very skeptical of all claims.

Once you start reading labels, you will know more products to get and not have to check those labels every time. As you progress, you will already know a lot of your basics. And of course produce only needs to be organic so no labels there. Just like anything else you learn little by little as you go.....

In the European Union eggs are labelled from 0 - organic to 3- cage only. The code 1 is for free range hens and the EU strictly regulates what free range means (minimal duration of staying outdoor, surface of the courtyard etc.).

Dr Berg, it would be nice to go over comparison on “each food items”. Eat this bacon and not that, followed by why/ explaining ingredients.. Eat this brand of butter and not that, followed by why.... eat this cheese - Not that explaining... that way I know exactly what brand and what stores to shop at. We’re All learning so much information witch I so thankful for, but to simply and narrow down would be extremely helpful especially when you’re overwhelmed at the grocery store comparing bacon to bacon and still spending hours looking at all the ingredients on witch bacon would Dr. Burg would choose as healthy option. I love all your education videos.. 🙏 THANK YOU!!

OK, on the sunflower seed "butter"...the label says "one or more of the following: peanut or, safflower oil AND/OR canola oil". Since canola is the cheapest of those listed...which do you think is the one they're using? Canola oil is NO BUENO!

You don't necessarily have obvious sugar in cheese, but lactase converts to sugar and then fat from memory. This is why dairy is a bit iffy for me on keto.
@fadisalem1357
@fadisalem1357 5 жыл бұрын
No Lactase is the enzyme that breaks down lactose which is milk sugar by converting that into glucose in the bloodstream. But cheese since it's fermented dairy, especially when it's aged, it doesn't really contain lactose for the lactase to have to break down that because the lactose is all eaten up in the fermentation process. So therefore there isn't any sugar in cheese. So as long as there isn't sugar or carbs it is totally keto friendly.

Thank you! Could you help me with a question i have had for a long time? Some carb labels shows total 10g carbs which 3g is dietary fiber, 3g is sugar and minus that would leave 4g of carbs, what are these 4g of carbs?
