"stopping the fan" is a great teaching point that clearly explains the point you were trying to make. One of the best ways I have ever seen to explain that part of the golf swing. Nice job!

Excellent video, brilliantly illustrated key dynamics of the golf swing. The lag is really important, I do still hit the ground sometimes, but I think it’s a question of my timing and rotating the hips as well as the shoulders.

This is an amazing instruction video. I know it’s older but I just found it a few moths ago. It has absolutely changed my game as I was struggling with getting the feel for proper release. The half club demonstration was a lightbulb moment! I will recommend this video to anyone I talk with who is struggling with their game - except my playing partners, lol. I used to dread mid/long iron shots. Now I can’t wait to hit them. Thanks for putting this content out, Clay. You are officially my go-to for help going forward.

Great teaching and knowledge transfer. Before I started playing golf I used to play tennis. My coach at the time said you played tennis, golf is the same thing. But he couldn’t transfer that same thing or I couldn’t relate. Watching this today I can see the same thing. It’s the classic tennis swing, you go down to catch and deliver the passing shot down the line. If don’t stay down you will have difficulties clearing and in golf you dump the ball in the water. Wonderful!

Clay, you should make a biography video from when you first started playing until now, including your time on the mini tours and starting with Top Speed Golf.It would be cool for all of your viewers to get to know more about the guy who is helping to improve their game video after video. It would also be a good way to switch things up while many of us are still away from the golf course.

Never in a million years did I believe this. Only pga pro tester day at the range had me doing this after slicing a sand wedge Lolol. Had me put ball foward, open stance, chase the ball. He sayed don’t change your swing it’s your swing change the ball. Mind blown 🤯. Litterally 2 balls later I was hitting straight. 9-3iron. We did drill with various irons. All for free just to prove the point. After the fact he went into details. Said most people get hung up on what they are suppose to do and forget to hit the ball....immediately stoped blocking, allowed me to turn /rotate the hips. Full swing. All with out thinking about it. Golf is 95 % mental and 5 % skill. You have to master your mind before u can incorporate skill

Just a great explanation on a sequence in the swing most poor golfers have difficulty with. People who can groove this move along with using their lower body and core to generate energy can shoot in the 80's in my opinion. Keep up the great work Clay and Q.

Here's what I especially like - at aprox 6:50 secs a brief explanation of the 'golf Squat' - allowing forward lean in shaft --I mention because So Many Videos talk about Squat and side bend, along with -'Look at how this guy stays behind ball....' And every time I try it...I'm hitting it FAT!!! Ok , now I'm realizing that wouldn't be the case if I left a wee bit of lag & had the forward shaft lean... :-) Clay shows almost to knee's if shaft is leaned forward enough :-)

Clay, great video, but be good to see the path of the club at the straight line release point, assume it's fairly left of the ball (needs view from behind you), but video doesn't show that club head/shaft position or angle (apologies if I've missed that somewhere).
@TopSpeedGolf
@TopSpeedGolf 3 жыл бұрын
It depends on the shot shape you're going for. If you're trying to hit it straight then it will likely be at or slight left of the target line for right hander.

Clay, I have committed myself to learning to swing the right way. My understanding is that the body and shoulder turn are driving relaxed arms. So that being said, the part about lag comes naturally, does it not? And also maintaining the "y" with the arms and club throughout the swing.
@TopSpeedGolf

Not necessarily. You may need to feel like you create the angle and then you need to sequence correctly for it to release properly like we talk about in the video. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

Hi Clay and Q, if a person is practising a slightly in to out path... at the release point should the club point an inch or two right of the ball to target line (or the point 4 feet in front on that line)? And does this apply if practising a fade as well, going slightly left of that release point. Thanks, Brian

At the point in the full release where the arms are now straight at a roughly 40 degree angle, is the right palm over the left hand, under the left hand or are the two palms facing each other?

Can't release (a follow thru) until right arm straightens. Check every other sport in slo-mo to see that action. Need right side bend in the downswing in golf to have right arm bend at impact. How? If the ball is at 12 o'clock, take a slightly bending right knee toward 10-ish during the downswing while keeping your head steady. Some really good things can happen from there. Just an opinion. Good video

Would doing the drill wrong or doing a full swing with the face open at the position shown around 8:40 result in a "feeling" of coming over the top or the club sliding from right to left since the toe weight isn't rotating over?
@TopSpeedGolf
@TopSpeedGolf 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Brandon, it's hard to say. A "feeling" is really relative to the one feeling it. I could see how it may feel that way because the hands are moving to the inside as the club works out. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

Clay could not releasing the club cause a slice? I know rolling it over for me will cause a hook. So I tend I think to block out to the right. I’ve done everything strong grip flat wrist clubhead alignment checkpoints and I have managed to turn that into a nice fade. But I think that’s my missing point. I mean I’m not complaining I can hit that 270. But the odd times I’ve turned it into a draw I can carry 290 300 very weird special circumstances I have carried 320. But I’m usually around 260 270 250 when the slice rears it’s ugly head.

Hi Craig, the FlightScope is pretty accurate. It tracks the actual flight of the ball for quite a while. It can be a little off if there is a lot of weather elements or it loses track of the ball but it's usually not 15 yards off on a 200 yard shot. At least not in my experience anyway. Play well! By all appearances you seem like a nice guy, Clay. But unlike the the rest of the commenters I see no reason to lift you on our shoulder and parade you down Main Street. Like so many other KZfaq golf instructors what you are actually promoting is handle dragging. Not your intention for sure, as you see the big evil as “flipping.” I submit the feeling of a “flip” is nearer to the correct release feel than pulling the handle forward. Assuming weight shift, body rotation are properly executed.
