Just replaced the starter motor on my 2005 Vectra C Design 1.9cdti 150. Pig of a job but got there in the end with help from this video. One important thing I have to mention , I could not get the car to start at first. The car was turning over but doing absolutely NOTHING. Felt as if there was no compression. It turns out that whilst removing the old starter I had knocked the crankshaft sensor and it had become disconnected but not entirely so all at 1st glance looked well. To cut the story short I checked all sensors around or near the starter motor (the crankshaft sensor is directly below the starter motor mere inches/cm). When I clicked the crankshaft sensor into position all was well and the car started 1st time.

Great video, really helpful. I was able to follow this and remove starter motor from a 1.9 CDTI Astra H. I found that it is possible to remove the motor without lifting the car in my case. The lower mounting bolt (which also mounts the ground wire) can be accessed from the top of the engine, you can't see it, but can feel it and there is just enough access to get a spanner in and remove it. I then lowered the motor through the car and onto the floor, then put the new motor in the same way. It is tight to get access on these bolts, if you are tackling this job I'd reccomend ideally having a variery of 13 & 10 mm spanners (swan neck, standard etc.) and sockets with various size extensions so that you can get a tool into all the awkward positions you will encounter. I'd reccomend giving the connecting wires a quick clean with a wire brush to ensure good electrical contact whilst you have access. Also - the crankshaft sensor is mounted directly below the starter and removal of this sensor on the 1.9 CDTI is much easier once the starter is out. So if you plan to change the crankshaft sensor then it is an ideal time whilst the starter is removed. New starter fitted and now the car starts much better!! thanks again for the video

Why not from underneath??

Not the best car to do repairs. Hard to reach anything unless if taking apart everything. I know, it's a MPV, so the bonnet has to be short, yet it's really complicated to gain access to anything. Thank for the video though.

Really poor. Everything in this video is far too distant. CLOSE UP is definitely needed and please ditch the irritating music. I'm looking at working on my car NOT LEARNING TO DANCE. not impressed
