Thank you for the video. I just had my turbo go out at 185k miles. I took a risk and bought a center cartridge from eBay. On top of that I was able to split the turbo while in the car and clean VNTs while at it. I did had to remove a valve cover to get to VNT arm bolt. Hope it helps someone without a lift like me.

Please update on how it works out for you. I purchased a new turbo but I would like to rebuild this one with a new cartridge. Thanks!

@@jjljedi2 it worked out fine. I could be happier. I did it a month ago. And save a lot of money this way. Don't forget to drain the oil from the intercooler before starting the car for the first time.

Why the hell VW did not let a room of at least 4 inch for every side so you can put through your hands! What is the f-g need to pack all the parts this way!
@schnallobullo70672 жыл бұрын
I think so too. When the car would be about 4 inches longer all the repairs would be much easier and save a lot of time to repair what ever it is. I think it becomes wore and worse at near all the cars.

Ive just crashed my car and my turbo is fairly new, the engine has moved a good 10 inches forward so im hoping I have loads of room to remove it😂

Do you have any tips for the turbo reinstallation process? This video helped me remove a broken turbo from my 2011 Jetta TDI but I'm not sure if there is any necessary lubrication process for installing the new turbo.
@briansmith92582 жыл бұрын
I didn’t lube mine. Then started it, didn’t have the drain on properly, emptied all the oil while idiling. Had to re pull the charger to fix the drain. Ran fine since. Been almost a year.

What turbo model do they come with?

This is exactly why I’ve stuck with a PD engine for this long, now I have 1 PD/DSG and 2 CJAA CR/DSG powered cars in the driveway, one MK6 Golf and and the other CJAA is a MK5 Jetta which needs a turbocharger and both CR cars need DMF 🤦🏻♂️
@bomason70743 жыл бұрын
I think I’ll be better off removing the engine on the MK5 CJAA since the turbocharger and DMF (dsg) needs replacement.
@Mikefngarage3 жыл бұрын
not too easy to remove the engine. but on a BRM it might pay off. I prefer to put the car in service position to remove the engine.

@@Mikefngarage Yeah, it's because they consume A LOT of energy compared to anyone on the planet... They cost of electricity(cent/kw hour) is not very high... In fact, it's half compared to many US state. Their bill are huge because they aren't efficient using it.

Can you pull just the actuator without pulling the turbo?
@briansmith92582 жыл бұрын
I tried but ended up just pulling it from the bottom by removing the axle and a lot of cussing. I didn’t know you could remove the cowl and didn’t have a puller to get the wipers off.
@briansmith92582 жыл бұрын
Plus it would be hard to set it on the car. Now that I think about it. I think one of the bolts is almost impossible to reach bc of the manifold and lack of room. These cars were made for mechanics with tiny hands.

@briansmith92582 жыл бұрын
Usually the pvc system gets damaged. This stops the turbo from draining oil. Which makes it build up and push through compressor wheel. This without proper cool down time eventually grenades the charger. We need pvc for vacuum for turbo drain! My plastic split before the turbo coming off the engine.
