The elevator on my Ridgid R4512 table saw all of the sudden broke on me. It turns out that the gears needed a little cleaning, sure, but the main problem was that the turn crank slipped out of alignment and wasn't making contact with the gear that drove the elevator. I found a lock washer that had popped off, put that back where it was supposed to go, and removed an old washer that had warped out of shape.
I have a few other videos for this table saw if you're interested:

From experience, I would expect there to be a flat washer between the original e-clip and the stationary boss that the shaft goes through. The purpose of a flat washer, aside from filling the obvious gap between the circlip and the boss, is to insulate the turning of the shaft from the stationary boss. Without the flat washer, as the shaft turns and the clip with it, the clip can stick or snag on the fixed boss (especially if insufficiently lubricated) and pop off the groove. If the e-clip has "self-ejected" and needs replacement, a circlip - not an e-clip - with a nearly full-circle inside and the "eyes" outside of the circle, can be a better choice here. Just measure the shaft's small diameter inside the circlip's groove.

Just wanted to reply and say that this does indeed work. For the R4520 (which is what I have, it's basically the same thing as the R4512) and R4512 the groove on the shaft is 14mm, and the shaft itself is 16mm. I got some 14mm snap rings and they work but they don't stick out of the groove that far so you need washer that is really tight to the shaft. I had to buy one with an inside diameter slightly smaller than 16mm and sand it until it fit. They didn't have metric washers over 12mm at HD, so I got a spacer washer sized for 1/2" bolts IIRC (the actual inner diameter was ~15.5mm). If you want the actual e-clip on there, which is quite a bit beefier than the snap rings, you have to order it either from the manufacturer or a website that sells Ridgid replacement parts. It's not a standard size metric e-clip that you can get from a hardware store either (the common metric sizes step from 12mm to 15mm so either way too small or too loose). On the parts diagram for the R4520 and R4512 it's called '14mm retaining ring'. I didn't bother for now because it's a $2 part but they wanted $25 for shipping, but in case anyone else is trying to fix their table saw I thought I'd mention it.

Just found your video. I purchased multiple clips and secured them one at a time into the groove on the height adjustment, rod but none of them stayed on the shaft. They would all pop off after a few turns at best. Instead, I pulled the rod out, clamped it on my drill press, and drilled a hole through it where the clip would normally go. Then, I re-inserted it and ran a paperclip through it. I was going to use a cotter pin but what for? Now, it works perfectly. I just don't think the table saw was made very well to begin with but at least this way, I don't have to buy a new one. Score one for the drill press!

Kristopher - thank you so much for making this video. I have a completely different saw, but this is really helpful. My saw blade is rocking back and forth when I raise and lower it which I discovered when I was trying to put in a faux fence for a jointer jig. I noticed that the blade pivots about 1/16 of an inch - and as your video points out, it may be caused by a few things. I already put on some WD-40, but I think it needs a good cleaning and I also need to look at the 3D diagram that the replacement parts store has on its website to see if there may be a missing or loose part that needs attention. My saw is a Skilsaw SPT70 by the way. It is the first Worm Drive table saw built by Skil. Thanks again.

Oh my god I've sat with my table saw not used for almost 2 years now because those washers fell off, and Ridgid support only told me to go and bring the whole tablesaw to a certified maintenance shop...and I have no truck. This is the entire issue?! ...God damn it! Thank you SO MUCH.

Hi Kris, great to see you in this video! My Powermatic has a similar problem but I think in my case it’s a worn worm gear. It’s an old saw so I’m afraid the part’s not available anymore. Yes, there’s very little info about tilt arbors out there. DW

I had same issue with my Grizzly hybrid tablesaw. I replaced both rhe spacer and e-clip but i think the lifting mechanism is so dirty that I have to exert too much pressure on the screw that it popped off again. Not sure how to clean it well however.

I have a Jet ProShop that has a very similar setup. My retaining clip also fell off and made raising and lowering the blade very difficult. Because I couldn’t raise the blade all the way up, it also affected the arbor lock button that allows you to easily remove the blade. I put the retajning clip back on and all is well. Might be an area to clean once in awhile. Also, on the Jet you need to tilt the blade all the way to be able to even see the clip which is in the middle of the shaft instead of the end like the Rigid you show. Manual was zero hell in this issue. I have no idea why it would pop off in the first place. I know I’ll check it every time I vlezz as n the sawdust out.

I ordered a new one anyways but have no idea how to properly place it, the set up on the ryobi is different than yours 😫

Hi Kristopher - Thanks for the video. I have had my 4512 for a number of years and really like it. The one thing that I have run into is the mechanism to raise and lower the blade works fine (have not run into your issue - yet) but it is not as smooth as I would like. Do you still own and use the saw? Did you ever figure out how to clean and lubricate the mechanism? Thanks Again

Hi Bob! Glad you enjoyed the content. Yes, I still use this as my primary saw. I love it. For lubrication I grease the threaded rods once a year now. That does the job perfectly. Make sure to clean out the sawdust first, of course. Happy building.

It's a bit late and you putting already fixed it. But I grew up Cain that piece a snap ring, but I'm in south central Oklahoma and different places can it by different names. But you should be able to get them at hardware stores, just bed to know the size of that rod. Should be able to pick up a couple for pretty cheap. Hope you got it taken care of. Mine has a bit of a different problem I think tho. I had turned it to 45 to make a chamfer on the corners for a picture frame I was making and had lifted the blade up to check I was at 45 and then I couldn't get it to go back down.. I feel like the rid of jammed on the teeth that shut in the screw part. But tried a few things and ended up waking away before I ended up needing something up cuz I was a bit irritated.

Hey I’m having this exact same issue with my r4520 but I can’t seem to get the rod to back out far enough to even show that groove the lock washer clips Into. What would you suggest I do? @BARB33RIAN
@BARB33RIAN Жыл бұрын
I had this issue with my R4520. To be able to spin it far enough to get the E-clip into the groove on the shaft you need to take off part of the handle for adjusting the height. On the front of the saw there's the knob, a small washer, and the wheel/handle to adjust the blade height. Remove the knob and washer. I think there's a spring that pulls the rod tight towards the front when the knob is tightened. Once you remove the knob it'll be able to go all the way towards the back of the saw. Just push on the wheel so it engages with the pins and crank it counter-clockwise until the groove on the shaft is sticking out enough for you to put the washer + E-clip back on.

hey at 0:59 the blade elevator bar is right out of the hole. That is what I'm currently dealing with. How did you get it aligned so that it would fit back into the hole? Right now it's missing it by a small amount because the teeth of the gear is pushing it slightly out of alignment. Thanks so much!

THATS A SNAP RING MADE OUT OF SPRING STEEL, USE A WASHER BEFORE YOU PUT THE SNAP RING BACK ON , WASHER WOULD HELP REDUCE ROTATING FRICTION ON THE RING.
