If you have a switch that isn't responding after building your custom keyboard, this trick will help you get it functioning.
Some of the common causes of a switch not working are a lifted pad, a broken trace, or sometimes everything looks normal and it just isn't working. Don't worry, this will restore full functionality.

You absolute legend. Im 12 years old and I soldered a board for my second time. 4 switches didnt work. this video helped soo much. now it works perfect. something I learned though is that if you bridge the top pins on the switches, one switch will actuate both switches at once. so technicallyyou can have a keyboard that actuates every switch with one switch if you wanted to. Once again, thank you ☺️

Guys I have a problem and I need ur guys help. I recently purchased a MK61 with Optical Yellow switches. With no prior experience with hotswaps I tried to remove a switch out of curiosity and I pulled the switch from the wrong way. When I put the switch back in I got no response. Turns out the IR sensor was twisted since I grabbed the switch the wrong way with the puller, I twisted it back to its normal position and it seems to work temporarily, it randomly registers the key when a press another key near it. So I tried to twist the IR sensor more to its original position and it broke off, so now the key wouldn’t register at all. I put the IR sensor back in its original position and it seems to work the same as before, it randomly registers without me pressing it. I was wondering if there was something safe I can do to keep that sensor in place with out Sautering, i was wondering if something like glue was safe to use instead of sautering.

I tried to bridge a working key with different pins and all of them stay active when bridged. My F rows of mechanical keyboards don't work, can I connect a cable from the numbers row to F row and it'd work?

I don't know what you need to connect to where, but yes you can make it work again.

When I put the wire on the key and try to find out which one makes it fire it jsut spams it and when I solder it in it won’t work

Then it was the wrong bridge. Try a different one before you solder.

Hey,sir it can only solve problems for certain models, right? Because I tried to do spacebar and alt and yes it worked and I tried to do another switch. But after that I connect ctrl with fn, when I check it it doesn't work. But the N button came on instead. thx

I have a razer blackwidow v2 TE and my Y key is not working, so i bridge 2 points that make Y, before bridging, i can tap the wire to make Y, but after bridging, the keyboard repeatedly registers Y and when i press Y, the keyboard is still unresponsive. Any ideas?

i've tried to do it for 5 keys that doenst work bc a water splash and i cant make it work, making a bridge from the damaged key (R) to the T and pushing the R mark a T, if a switch to the other pin it becomes crazy and push a lot of keys randomly. I'm doing something wrong?

Hi! I changed the switches on my keyboard and now a column doesn't work. Could it be one of them not having a good contact?

For some reason my bridge activates the switch but it never de-activates it so it still isn’t working properly.

I soldered in mill max sockets into my keyboard’s pcb to make it hot swap. My esc key was broken as well (both before and after putting in the mill max). Would it be possible to use the technique shown to attach jumper wire to the mill max socket to fix the esc key? That way I could still remove switches without them being soldered in

After you do this fix how do you get the key to actually respond as it's intended key. For ex. I bridged my gui key and alt key, because my gui key was not working. How do I now get the gui key to actually respond with the gui function instead of the alt function

What happens if the key still doesn't respond (particularly the left Windows key) ? I tried bridging it to different keys but it still won't do anything. Any tips?

sadly it didn't work for me. i'm using an old 3rd party keyboard meant for those old imac G3s. testing it here on the PC, all keys work except for ESC. Tried swapping switches, dragging the wire all over creation.. various keys activated in doing so, but ESC didn't come on once.. most likely an issue with one of the capacitors? or even the controller chip?

actually it could be that your escape is on it's own row or column. See if you can find a schematic.
