I've started hearing a lot of squealing during driving and the brakes engage very late on as i press the pedal down, so I'm assuming i need new pads & rotors but im on a tight budget right now hence Im inclined to do the replacement myself, this video helps a lot especially as ive never done a brake swap before. Rear brakes / rotors on my IS 350C F-Sport from the stealership is a $2900 job. $1100 each for the 2 piece rotors from Lexus. Stoptech OEM's those for Lexus - I called them, they cross-referenced. @DavidSchwartzjr
@DavidSchwartzjr 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, sorry for the late reply! So these are not directional in terms of the venting. If you look at the rotor from the "top" instead of the side, the vents are straight across so you don't have to worry about directional orientation when installing them. Double check thought if you order some because things may have changed from the time I installed mine. Cheers! 😎🍻👍
@cruzcartagena7750
@cruzcartagena7750 2 жыл бұрын
@@DavidSchwartzjr thanks for the reply. I did order recently, and they have changed their manufacturing. The change is that the front rotors are manufactured directional with regards to the internal cooling fins. They are slanted and must face in the same direction as installed stock rotors. They're also identified with different last digit for L/R ie 123-4 & 123-5 (This was as per R1 Tech Support and the part numbers on box.) On my FSport the vents on the stock front rotors face forward. The rear face straight up and down and identified L/R. With that said, I have matched them up so they will be installed as per stock regarding internal fins and the outside slots/drilled holes are facing the same way. BTW, your video was what led me to R1. Thanks!

@DavidSchwartzjr
@DavidSchwartzjr 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Christopher, I always remove the aftermarket shim and use the ones that came with the original brakes. I do that just to ensure there's no risk of noise, but you definitely don't want to have an extra shim in there, only one. So you can choose to keep the shim that it came with on there and just install it like that, or remove the original ones and replace the new shim with the old one. I don't recall which side the low pad clip indicator was installed on since this was so long ago, but if I'm not mistaken, I don't think its going to matter which side it is on since both pads should wear down evenly over time. I would def ask on a forum if you can though just to ensure you don't have to mess with taking everything off and re-installing them.

Hey there so I still have these brakes on my car now, noticing the rotors are a bit warped as there’s some vibrating at higher speeds. There is a trade off with slotted and drilled, can crack and can’t be turned (at least I wouldn’t). I’m gonna end up replacing them soon, but not sure with what yet. Need to see what R1 has come out with since this video.

@@DavidSchwartzjr I think you made a mistake by putting the anti-seize grease on the hub face. You could have inadvertently created a small amount of run-out of the rotors which is now giving you the vibration. The hub face needs to be perfectly clean when installing the rotors.

@@briannhdzz Okay, so when I talked with my neighbor who is a senior tech with Lexus, he said that if you try to pair up Lexus OEM parts with aftermarket parts you're always gonna have squealing sounds. You'll either have to replace the pads with Lexus pads, or go with Akebono rotors if they make them in 2-piece otherwise you'll have to go with 1-piece rotors like I did. The ticking may have to do with a number of things, could be the caliper pistons, the rotors themselves, or something else. The squealing is from using after market pads on Lexus rotors. Hope that helps man. Believe me, I understand that frustration that you're going through. The main reason I didnt go with Lexus rotors and pads (aside from price) was because the rotors last about 15K on average depending on driving habits. 😞
