So it's just as easy as replacing brakes on any other car, like a Jeep or F150. Yet Audi dealership charges almost $1000 for this service. Yikes.

Excellent video, thank you! Only thing I’d have missed that isn’t in the video - where to add grease on the back of the (new) brake pad before installing. Very clear, good video with good lighting - nicely done.

A VW dealership in Fayeteville Arkansas charged me $1500 to replace all four rotors and pads, and balance wheels. It's breaking great now (2007 A4 with more than 140k miles). I think it was really expensive tho!

I had a guy do my brakes and the next day both of my anti-rattle clips fell out. He said that they were hard to put in. I got new ones and they went in easy for me. Easier than this one. Now I’m hoping that I have them in right.

YoU ShOuLd not squeeze the piston back like that open up the bleed screw and a filler cap in engine bay before you do that otherwise you risk damaging your brake system seals

I was looking for this comment before I made it myself. I got an airbubble in my a4 cause when I put the new pads in there wasn't enough fluid in the reservoir. My master cylinder went bad and air was stuck in my abs system until I got someone with vagcom to run a bleed test on my abs. Pain in the ass and the dealership wanted thousands to connect the computer and do the job.

Thanks for this great "how to" video! Is it necessary to somehow "reset" the low brake pad warning light following this repair? My 06 A4 has a plastic stud in with the tire iron to reinstall the wheels.

On wheels with lug bolts instead of lug nuts there is a special tool called wheel hanger that you screw into one of the lug holes. This allows you to hang the wheel in place making it easier to insert the other lug bolts. Then you can remove the rod/tool and replace with the last lug bolt. Audi includes a plastic version of this tool with my 2007 A4 next to the spare wheel. Also you can purchase an aluminum version of the tool from Ecs tuning. I'm not sure if anyone else sells it. Are the brake rotors made out of steel or some other type of metal? I am just curios because I can't find info. About them anywhere.
@1AAuto
@1AAuto 7 жыл бұрын
+dominic murdock Thank you for checking us out. In most cases, rotors are made out of cast iron, but in some cases due to performance could be made out of reinforced carbon-carbon or ceramic matrix composites. 1aauto.com

Not really only if you either want to or the brake fluid is black.

You don't need to bleed the brakes as long as you don't open the system. Just have someone keep an eye on the level of the break fluid in the reservoir while you're pushing the piston back in the caliper or else you may have a mess on your hands. I did the whole process with 2 jack stands and no power tools and only hit one or two snags. the first is those pesky little plastic clips for the pad sensor connector. Be careful with those you don't want to snap them. Also the 21 mil bolts on the back of the caliper bracket, you will most likely need a breaker bar for those. Last and the biggest pain in the ass I had doing this was that tiny torx bolt that holds the rotor in place did not want to come out at all. Ended up stripping the head on the first wheel I worked on and it was a huge fiasco trying to get that out. I recommend buying a simple blow torch from home depot for 20 bucks and shooting some flames on your old rotors around the bolt to try and free it up. Maybe even give it a couple hits with a rubber mallet. But either way I used the torch on the second one and it ended up breaking free easier than the first. Good Luck to all the DIY'ers and if you have a question ask away and I'll try to help as much as I can.

I can't crack the bolt which requires 21mm socket. I have a 30 inch braker bar with 3/4 drive. Tried blaster spray, atf/acetone oil, hammering, heat, leverage bar. I think I need to get this on a lift where I can get a longer leverage pipe on it. Or probably take it to a shop to have them break them free. Which kills me to pay someone. The bolts and the area around it aren't even rusted. Probably someone tightened with impact wrench too much torque.

+isabel bugarin Thank you for checking us out! We would not be able to tell you what size you need just based off of year make and model. We would recommend either measuring the rotor diameter yourself so you know what size you have or contacting a local dealer with the VIN as they will be able to tell you what size came on the vehicle.
