Great guide. After watching this video I was debating letting a shop replace it on my truck, but I already had the part and decided to see how hard it was going to be. If I had to take the glass out, I was just going to take it to the shop. I really didn't want to try and find a new window during the pandemic, if I broke mine. I have a Silverado 2018 LT Crew Cab 4x4. Luckily on mine there was just enough room to Tetris the actuator behind the track while only taking out the latch side, black window guide out. The caveat to that is you have a little less length on the outside handle cable to get it on/off the actuator but it can be done.

Good guide. To make things easier and less steps...there is no need to remove the entire regulator assembly. Once you get the window free just push it all the way up and use masking tape liberally to hold the window in the full up position. Then you just unbolt the part of the regulator towards the rear and slide it out of the way. There is also no need to remove the trim piece around the window. There is also no need to remove the outside door handle. When you get the actuator free from the door you can get all the lock rods and cables off the actuator by moving it around a bit. I have been a GM tech for 10 years. Great guide. Just a little more than neccessary.

Outstanding video! I used the instructions to replace the actuator in a 2017 Impala, everything was the same except the door panel had a bolt under the window switches, and there were two plastic clips at the bottom of the window attached to the regulator instead of the two upper window clamp bolts. Just finished doing this, followed the video and it was 100% instrumental. Saved me from going to a shop. A few things (words of caution) to add: 1) The regulator bolts are riveted on the inside, one of them started spinning in place which was a huge pain. Used heat, penetrating oil, and a vice grip on the bolt to loosen the nut. I think it just had a ton of blue Loctite from the factory. I'd recommend using penetrating lube before even attempting to loosen. 2) I had extremely hard time taking the window out with window rain guards/deflectors on the doors. Taking it out was very difficult without breaking it. I ended up breaking the deflector when putting the window back in, it simply wouldn't go with them on. Then it was much easier (but still annoying). 3) I ended up having an extra 10mm bolt at the end (greaaaaat), couldn't find the bolt hole for the life of me. But everything seems to work so.... We'll see if it falls apart later? 4) It took me 3 hours start to finish, and that includes a trip to the store for penetrating oil.

I did this on a 2016 GMC Sierra Denali. Passenger side front. I did not take the window out or the window rails. There is enough room to finagle the door handle mechanism and the actuator between the door and the window rail if you pull on the rail a little. It wasn't that difficult. Just pay attention to how the door latch cable runs (between the interior door and the window rail. I did this in 1.5 hours following this video (skipping taking the window out). Great directions here. It took me a few minutes to figure out putting the door handle on as well and turning the handle latch with the pick from the hole in the end of the door...but was able to figure it out. Overall not a terrible job. Putting the top trim back on the door was the biggest pain as I didn't see how large the lip was for it to attach to. Thanks for the great video!

This video was accurate on every aspect of what to do, how to remove things etc. excellent video, I can’t believe my 18’ already started doing this. And doing this solo is not as easy as I thought it was!

This is a great "how-to" video. I admit I was a bit daunted at first given the complexity of all the parts that have to be removed to get the actuator out. However, I followed the video step-by-step, rewatching parts until I was confident I knew how to accomplish a step before undertaking it. The most difficult part for me was getting the door handle to attach to the latch inside the door as I didn't have a large pick tool like he used in the video. After rigging a L-shaped bracket into a vice grips, I was able to pull the latch forward and insert the door handle into it. It took me about 2 1/2 hours from start to finish, taking my time and rewatching multiple parts in the video. I'm confident I saved hundreds of dollars doing it myself.

Thank you for putting this repair up. It probably saved me a few hundred dollars. You were right, that first trim panel you pull off to access one of the screws is tough! I finally thought if I break it I'll just buy a new one. It didn't break however. Additionally the door panel was a little difficult getting it off the top. Instead of trying to pull it straight out I wiggled and pushed up. I had to take those clips off the panel and put them back on the door panel when I reinstalled it. I really wanted to buy the part from you but I searched and searched your web site and could not find it. I'm sorry but your parts finder site is difficult to find anything with. Maybe just me but that was the case. Thanks again.

I always love your videos. So professional and step by step makes it some much easier for us. SIDE QUESTION: I was told that I would have to flash the BCM after replacing the actuator. Is there any truth in that or is it as simple as replacing the actuator motor and test?

This is a very good "how to video". I had to do the passenger side on my 2015 silverado, the door handle doesn't have a door key lock. That area of re-installation is a bit different. I had to push the actuator lever from inside to engage the door handle. No big deal.

You dont have to remove the window or the track around it. Just remove bottom bolt of the window motor arm. Remove window track inside door towards lock. Plenty of room to get everything out with glass still in,

I found your video as I was looking for tips on how to finess the actuator out around the brackets. My stomach sunk a little when I watched you go through the entire process of taking the window, all interior brackets, and exterior handle off. But I was determined to do this without all those extra steps, and after some trial and error I was successful. You do NOT have to take all of these pieces off just to replace the actuator. Once you get the black plastic peeled back, loosen the 10mm actuator bolt, and pullout the three torx bolts, you'll the want to remove only the 2 bolts for the window track. Do this with the window all the way up, window is not attached to the track and will not fall (on my 2016 yukon anyway) . You can remove the window track to make clearance to take out the actuator. Remove the exterior handle cable from the 2 white retention clips to give it plenty of slack to move with the actuator. Then start working the actuator out behind the vertical metal backet. You will have to flex the metal back toward you as far as you can to squeeze the actuator behind it and above the black foam. It's tight, but it does come out. Once out, remove both the interior and exterior handle cables from the actuator and connect them to the new actuator (the exterior handle cable is still attached inside, you just made enough slack to get it out by removing from the 2 retention rings). Put the new actuator back in the same way the old one came out (behind metal bracket, above black foam block). Bolt it back in place, then slip the window track back in back in place and replace its 2 bolts. Be sure the handle cables are in the original positions (exterior cable is behind window track, interior handle cable is in front of window track) . Reclip the exterior cable into the 2 retention clips. That's it, just restick the black plastic to the door, and reinstall the interior panel. The hard part to this is getting the actuator behind the vertical metal bracket, you have to bend it inward about 1 to 2 inches toward you to make enough space. Since the bolts mounting it are so far apart, this is fairly simple with just squeezing the mid point between bolts with one hand and working the actuator out with the other. It has enough flex to not permanently bend the metal. I cut up my hands a bit trying to work it around the sheet metal and bracket, but if you hit the sweet spot it goes relatively smoothly without the cuts and blood. For those needing to replace only the actuator, I recommend you try this to save yourself and hour and over half of the steps in this video.

What would you search for to find the piece that the swivels to raise or lower the unlock /lock indicator? Mine broke and won’t go up or down. Any help is appreciated

I was a little intimidated after watching the video, but once you get into it, it's really not that bad. I have a 2014 GMC Sierra and replaced the front passenger side. You don't need to remove the trim around the window to get the window out, and you should only have to remove the two outside bolts for the window regulator assembly, you can fold it in to get the room to remove the locking mechanism. Good video, pay attention to everything he says and you can do this in a couple hours.

Is it possible to replace the door lock actuator without taking the window off? I have a problem with the door ajar actuator and my window switches won't work for that reason.

I have a 2014 silverado crewcab where the power lock on driver door doesn't respond with key fob. All other doors lock and unlock. Which part do i need? Acuator, switch?

Almost did NOT do it after watching your video. I have a 2019 and just couldn’t see forking out the extra $500 after the $200 part. It was the removal of the window that intimidated me. After digging into the comments I decided to wing it, not remove the window, and do a little of each. Exactly what I did. First off if you have a 2019, the panels and all is a little different. Also a big point to the final removal of panel is to lift it “up”. This will ‘unhang’ it from the sill. In the end I did NOT take out the window. I also didn’t need to tape it up and remove all the window regulator parts. I did have to loosen the right side and take the nuts off the left and try and move it out of the way. Def must remove the left window guide. And def would say to take off the door handle. I had a moment where I didn’t think I’d get that handle assembly back together. If you’re not mechanically inclined, take it in. Somehow I pulled it off. I think I had someone watching from above. It seemed like a miracle and took me 3 hrs total. Door handle and just finagling the actuator out was the biggest headaches. Especially putting my handle back together. I don’t think a pick would’ve helped mine. My latch bolt and handle removal was different than this video as well. Hopefully this helps someone decide. Don’t want to scare anyone off. I didn’t want to mess w it but like I say…they said probably $500 minimum. Diagnostics could’ve cost more. I feel like I saved a small fortune. Thanks for the video and that gave me the confidence! 2014 Silverado driver side door lock actuator part number with keyless entry?

My dashboard says my driver side door is open, even when it's not, will replacing the part on my 17 silverado resolve that issue?

Need to do this on the rear door of my 2015 Sierra, is it really necessary to remove the entire handle assembly, window, etc.? I've done an actuator before on a different vehicle and you just loosen the 3 screws on the inside of the door near the latch and you can disengage the latch cables and lock rod while the actuator is inside the door.

Worked on my 2014 Silverado. Keep in mind that he is on the driver door, and if you’re doing your passenger door it will be slightly different

I understand the door trigger is somehow contained within the lock but have not been able to confirm this. My radio will not turn off or the interior light will not come on. I suspect it is this latch system if so. Any ideas?

You have got to be kidding me?! For a common, way too quick of a failure component, that is a lot of silliness going on there. Total door teardown and rebuild. One door, now turning into 2 on the passenger side for me. How is it that only "without keyless entry" are the only available actuators. On top of that, you guys dont even have 2014 door actuators. Been hunting for over a year. Strange. Good grief!!! Update: Gruvenparts has the upgraded motors for interested parties.

this is the worst vehicle I have ever owned. Chevy has the worst electrical problems I have ever seen
