This video shows you how to install a front lower control arm bushing on your 2011-2019 Ford Explorer. Rubber bushings help smooth out a ride, but are susceptible to wear or drying out and crumbling over time. This bushing is replaceable separate from the control arm, and you can replace it yourself.

I can't seem to get the bolt holes to line up opposite with the bolt holes of the bushing ive replaced. It seems like im out of travel and ive tried everything to get them to line up

Would it be easier to just replace the whole control arm? I dont have the tools to do the bushing itself but its due for a change.

I have a 2016 sport and I've noticed a minor clunk when going over bumps. Could this bushing be the cause of the clunk? I inspected the suspension on both sides and this bushing was the only thing i really noticed. Dried and cracked and i could get a little play out of it. Admittedly i have next to no experience with suspension work, apart from the numerous yt videos and online research I've done. I'd love to fix the clunk myself, and input/advise would be very much appreciated.

Same as me. I suspect this bushing, I see some slight cracking and oil leaking as well.

How do you know that it is just the bushing that needs to be replaced and not the ball joint as well?

Good info for removing the bushing but it is impossible to install the new one on the vehicle. You will need to remove the arm and use a shop press.

OK so 3 people say it's impossible to replace bushing with the arm on the vehicle and without a press. Has anyone really done it without a press or should I just buy the whole arm with ball joint and both bushings- it's only $100 for the whole shebang. Update: Actually, I just did it. I bought the whole shebang on rockauto for like $75 each. recommended to do both sides. I had to cut the ball joint bolts on both sides with a sawzall after I could only get the nut halfway off. not too difficult. save yourself the headache- buy the whole thing.

What are the symptoms of the bushing going out? My explorer makes a clunk up front when I'm on and off the gas at low speeds.

I came to ask the same question. My 2016 sport clunks slightly over bumps. I inspected both sides and the only thing i found was this bushing being worn and cracked on the passenger side, could get a little play out of it as well. No play or any obvious issue with any other components. Although I'll admit i have next to no experience with suspensions outside of the few hours of videos I've watched. Would love to resolve this myself and gain some experience. Any input and/or suggestions would be much appreciated.

There’s a easy way to take off take a grinder cut into places smack it off with a hammer and they’re not that hard to put back on just take that grinder and lightly go across each point of that shaft to where it shiny and no rust and get some grease this slightly put it on there put the bushing on and just tap the bushing on

That car isn't in the salt belt northern states. The third bolt he removes is rusted in place and impact driver isn't turning it

For $100-$200 you can get a pair of complete controls arms and don’t have to fight with the old bushings.

Don’t try this at home. He makes it look easy but The bushing will cease to the control arm and the only way to get it off, is to cut it off and also putting the new bushing on you’re gonna I need a press to put it on that’s why he cut filming when putting on the new pushing

No way you would get some of those on by using soapy water and a hammer. i had to take off the A arm and use a press

I hear ya, I just did mine last week and it was a pain it wasn't even budging, I had to go buy a heavier mallet and little by little I finally got it in position.

This is absolute BS.. no way to do this on the car. You need a press. I even cut one apart (2 hours) no way to get it on without destroying it. I used grease and a big Ball peen. A mallet is no way driving it back on… He’s got them on upside down too. Do yourself a favor order the assembled control arms. This video is wrong in so many ways..
