How to Replace Front Wheel Bearing on Chevy Equinox, GMC Terrain to Fix Stabilitrak and ABS Light

In this video, I walk through the process of replacing a wheel bearing hub assembly on a 2011 Chevy Equinox. This process will work on GMC Terrain, Cadillac SRX, Buick Envision, and Pontiac Torrent. Although the wheel bearing itself was not bad, the magnetic backing ring was broken and causing the system to throw a Stabilitrack error. The ABS light was also on because the vehicle's ABS system was receiving erratic data from the wheel speed sensor.
Torque Spec:
Axle Nut: 151 ft lbs
Wheel Bearing bolts x3: 70 ft lbs
Strut to Knuckle: 137 ft lbs
Caliper Bracket: 140 ft lbs
Caliper Bolts: 20 ft lbs

Thank you! Read through the comments, you don't have to take the strut loose from the knuckle to get to the bolts that hold the wheel bearing in. Good luck!

I also did this job, I did it without taking the entire axle out, (from a video I watched) and it went pretty easy until it was time to remove the old hub. GOD that was a pain in the ass. The way you did would make the job easier, but just wanted to say that you can do it both ways if someone was not okay with taking the axle complexly out. Thanks for all the Chevy videos

Thank you so much this helped me out alot i didnt take the 2 bolts on top i was able to use extensions and get to the bolts .. i did had a hard time putting the new one in and aligning the bolts thank you so much for this video ..

Good video but all 3 of the hub bolts are accessible from the back without removing the knuckle from the strut. Saves on an alignment too!

Well, to be honest I was recording another video at the same time. I also changed the CV axle. But good to know for the future.

Is it at all possible to change out the wheel bearing without pulling out the axle?

Yes. As you may have seen in the comments multiple people have said the three hub bolts are accessible without disconnecting from the strut. I had to change the CV axle also, that's why I did it this way

Appreciate torque specs but luckily I know enough that you don't need to take off struts, etc. If I didn't know better I would have been wasting time disassembling stuff I did not need to. Ditto what M says.

u dont remove the bolts from the Strut at all theres bolts behind the wheel bearing you take of thats how it comes of if you take of the strut bolts you are going to need a front end Alignment. I have changed wheel bearings on my car.and this same vehicle my friend is a ASE mechanic said this guy is doing it wrong 😮
