Thanks for the video, really helped me out. Wish my ball joints would have come out with one whack! I was beating on them for about 15 to 20 minutes a piece. I was using a 2 1/2 pound hammer, I will be purchasing a heavier hammer later, thanks again.

Hey Clowny! Great video! I took the spring out because replacing it along with strut and mount but what a mistake! No pressure to hold against top of the jack so hitting with large hammer and heat not working 😕I tried a removal kit but the c clamp is not tall enough to fit everything and put together correctly. Any suggestions please 🙏

Klowny, upon initial installation of new Ball Joints.., should weight be placed on the ball joints (tires bolted on and sitting on the ground) prior to filling the "Dust Boots" with grease? Or, should I add grease to the ball joints with the tires lifted OFF the ground (while supported under the Control Arms), THEN lower the car on it's own weight? I'm sorry for asking a ton of questions.., I just don't want to screw this up. Thanks in advance, bro!

@@klowny1969 So I have been trying to press the new ball joint in for hours but it would go in completely - not completely in straight. Would it pup in all the way in if I reinstall the strut and wheel and have it sit on its own wheel?

Did you use Moot BallJoints? I'm doing mine right now and you have to press the rubber grommet/ grease/dust seal onto the balljoint, and on other places I've read the spindle pressure is enough to seat it. It's being a PITA is why I ask. my sleeves for the press , one is to small and tears the rubber, other is to big and,bends the metal ring inside. Lmao. Damn thing
@MotorScotti

I know the pain, had a metal shap cut me some custom metal rings to fit properly. Still a pain to press in..

how do you know if you need new ball joints. i have a 91 camaro an ig et up to around 55 60 and i feel this vibration. dosent rattle, and it doesnt pull to one side. dont wear tires. have some play in my steering, what could it be
@mhjwilkie1

i changed all steering stuff on my 89 firebird. no abnormal tire wear just shaking upon applying the brakes. drag arm, tie rods, idler arm, ball joints were all shot. no need to use the ball joint presser the spindle will push the ball joint and pop it into place when you tighten the bolt. then take it in for an alignment.

Have you ever had a problem with a new ball joint not seating properly in the original control arm on an 82 Camaro?
@klowny1969
@klowny1969 5 жыл бұрын
It can happen, if the balljoint hole is out of round..becareful with how they sit because if it pops out then it can cause a major accident

I drove it home after changing it and as soon as I started braking on a hill the whole front end starting shaking left to right. It has been sitting at home every since. I jacked the front back up and noticed the ball joint had come back down out of the control arm a pretty small amount but enough to make it sloppy again. Do you have any advice on how to get it seated or am I gonna be stuck buying a new control arm and bushings?

I think you can still do it, but you have to lower the control arm. The strut is really long and will contact the fender. You can do it like he did and put a jack under the middle of the control arm and lower it really, really slow. You need a jack under there before you take the top nut off at the mount. The spring pressure is tremendous on these and even though it may look unsprung, a small amount of spring pressure is still dangerous. You can also use a spring compressor to compress the spring but they scare me. If the spring moves, you need to make sure that the end of the coil is in between the two little holes in the spring pocket of the A-arm.
