This is a guide on how to replace the diff fluid on a Ford F150 between the years of 1996-2004. The video was done on a 8.8 rear end no limited slip. So if you have a different sized rear end or a limited slip you might need different fluid and/or the limited slip additive. Thanks for watching!

Great suggestion for storing the silicon. Just last night I was fighting with mine to get it to flow...then I covered mine with plastic wrap and a rubberband. But I like this way of silicone storage better. Thanks.

I have done MANY water pumps and thermostats NEVER use anything besides the gaskets it came with. You can use silicon if you want too and or to hold the gasket in place BUT it is NOT a must use silicon on gaskets. To each their own but if you HAD to use silicon the water pump for instance instructions would said MUST use silicon on gasket which it doesn’t. It does say MAY use a very light coat to hold gasket in place for instal.

I don't think it matters, but was this a truck with an automatic transmission, or with a 5 speed manual cause mines is 5 speed maunal, 4*4 with a 4.6 engine and I'm jus only haven trouble with the tiny security screw that holds the pin in place, it keeps loosing, Red thread locker doesn't seem to work, I may need to flood it with lock tight, I really don't want to, I got the truck new in 02, and yes it has high mileage, approximately, 950,000 miles, still runs great except for the rear end issues I'm experiencing. Any advise.

Something he failed to mention if you're using synthetic differential fluid leave one inch of space between the hole where your adding fluid and call it good because the synthetic fluid expands! And if it has nowhere to expand to guess what it's going to do it's going to blow your seal! I'm gearing up to do this little project myself and this is what four different mechanics have told me these exact same words leave one inch of space between the level of oil in the differential and the feel plug if you're using synthetic, and they also said that synthetic does last longer however they did recommend changing it out ever so often depending on your own maintenance schedule. I personally just bought this 1999 Ford f150 and I'm currently going through all this stuff myself just for Peace of mind and before winter gets here so it's not going to be balls ass cold outside and I have a bad issue , I even plan on having a radiator flush done real soon the belts and hoses look real good so I'm not too worried about them.

@@madmikesmallenginerepair2804 Actually, he is partially correct, but for the wrong reason. My manual says fill to 6-14mm (1/4 - 9/16") below fill plug for this axle. Not sure why, as the the 10.25" axle gets filled right up to the drain plug, and uses synthetic oil as well.
