Welcome to 2CarPros! In this video we are going to cover how to service the rear differential for a Ford F-150 from the years of 2004-2008.
In this video we showcased the 9.75in rear end with a limited slip differential. If you have the 8.8in or 10.25in you need to double check the amount of fluid needed, which gasket you need and, if it has a limited slip differential or not. It could be different.
Parts used in this video:

Limited Slip Diff Additive: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...

Tip.. use a loose stud inserted in top of the diff to align the lid. then thread it out when the other bolts are in
@amirullasker8996
@amirullasker8996 Жыл бұрын
Good video; however, those bolts need to be torqued down 30 ft-lb, not run the impact all around full force. Most of those 9.75" diffs take 5.5 pints (2.75 qts).

Suggest using Gear oil proof Silicone RTV... regular RTV can dissolve when contacted by Gear Oil ... also let the Silicone RTV cure for a few hours too before adding Gear oil , so as to not contaminate the gear oil

Good job, all the keyboard warriors will never stop. The end of the day you got the job done. Some people say you have to use gear oil RTV. I use whatever RTV is in stock and/or on sale and I've never had a leak. I went against the the grain and used 75w140 in my 2019 f150 that calls for 75w85 I'm guessing b they changed it for fuel mileage reasons and people beat me down on it. I had a surplus of 75w140 amsoil.

Hi Brian, I own a 2007 F150 5.4L Crew. How do you tell the gear ratio on your rear axle. Also I have 150K on the vehicle when should the rear axle fluid be replaced? Thanks.
@2carpros
@2carpros 4 жыл бұрын
So there is 4 ways I can think of right now. You can count the teeth on the ring gear divided by the pinion gear. It is sometimes printed on the ring gear. If your differential tag is still attached it should say it on there. Sometimes if you can find the online Vin decoder it will tell you there. I was lucky enough to still have my new car sticker and it has the 3.73 limited slip differential. You should change it every 100k miles or so. Thanks for watching!

@2carpros
@2carpros 2 жыл бұрын
You can type your vin into RockAuto and it should tell you. If I had to guess since yours is an FX4 pretty high trim level it is 9.75 and you need 8 oz. Thanks for watching!

paul medard misfire, get a code reader. Figure out which cylinder is misfiring. Replace the coil pack. Clean the throttle body with proper cleaner. And put sea foam in your gas and oil. Should run smooth after.

Wouldn't the gasket itself be okay? or is the rtv required? I am about to do this tomorrow.
@2carpros
@2carpros 4 жыл бұрын
Lots of people just use the gasket. I don't because it almost always leaks. The RTV is there to prevent it from leaking. I just got my rear end built for my 1967 Camaro by a professional differential builder. They didn't use RTV and it leaks like a sieve.
@sandrarichardson2713
@sandrarichardson2713 Жыл бұрын
I was wondering about that myself. I have changed my differential fluid before and used only the gasket. I was afraid I would goof up the tube of stuff. The gasket has not leaked and it's time to change it again. I was thinking possibly the reason it leaked on the Camaro is that the housing was not cleaned properly. Just my 2 cents. Jesus bless.

@@2carpros the plug might be rusted in and require days of soaking with penetrating oil, or you may have get a torch and heat the area, or it may have to be drilled out and use an ez out, or it may have to be drilled and retapped. Any one of these operations could take days for you to acquire the necessary equipment or to allow the penetrant to work. I guess if you're okay with having your car sit in your driveway unable to be used because you already drained the fluid while you work on the removal of the fill plug.......
