Wheel seals are a barrier between the axle and the axle tube to prevent differential or transmission fluid from leaking out of solid axle configurations. Replacing a leaky seal will prevent damage and gear wear caused by low fluid levels. This video shows you how to install a new rear wheel seal on your 1998-2008 Ford Super Duty F-250.

Just so y'all know....that part he took out after the seal....is NOT part of the old seal.....it's a slinger..... Put that back in

A instructional video that shows what us frost backs go through...I just wanted to make sure it's the same deal as changing a wheel seal on a semi. Done hundreds of those but never one on a small free floater.

This is a nice concise video with a lot of key information. You're not telling your life story or talking about your kids dog. I did not hear the word "Um" in there at all. Thank you for a great video. The oil slinger is a mystery. I called the Ford dealer and even they didn't have it on their parts diagram. I found one for a 2003 (truck I am working on is a 2001) and got it. Planning to install it. Why Ford didn't have it on their diagram is a mystery to me.

Damn, nice video but you forgot to reinstall the oil sling over the inner bearing before installing the seal...the little steel ring you mentioned when removing the old seal. Also, Pro-Tip: you can reuse the oil sling if it isn't cracked.

After putting the left axle in Axel N should a free spin and after applying the bolts or should it lock into the differential

i have wheel spacers on my f250, could i just take wheel off, caliper off, and then take the center bolts and bearings out and drop the rotor and hub off in one piece to replace the seal?

Wrong lug nuts for that truck, those wheels are hub centric, you acorn lug centric lugs on

hi sir i change the bearing seal on my 2000 ford f250 7-3 I tight the nut at 60 pounds torque but when i finish the caliper dont fit any ideas if i need to tight the nut more then 60 pounds torque so i can install the caliper brakes please let me now THANK YOU

Video doesn't show oil slinger re install. Big mistake, I just did this to the T and the seal failed immediately. With out the oil slinger ring the seal rides on the bearing. Also the seal will only get pressed in from the outer side if the seal. You need the ring to help evenly press from the inner ring of the seal when seating the hub.

The axle shaft on my 2001 f250 has a back stop, and a lip thats not letting the seal sit properly. Any info on why its diffrent? Thanks!

Shouldnt that type of bearing be packed with grease? Is there something I'm missing about this design to make it so it doesnt require being packed with grease?

Just curious if anybody else noticed... 5 clicks for new bearings and 7 for old sounds right, but all the official docs I can find say it the other way around. Anybody know why the official docs would tell you to leave more slack for a new bearing????? I would think a new bearing would wear a tad and create more slack resulting in too much.

No, that is the oil slinger which was not reinstalled. Bearing will fail sooner if left out. They should fix this video.

@@paytonsisson8483 it's not a size just a tool. Sometimes the dana 80 rear axel nut is a 2-1/2 socket. The tool is just a round socket with 4 points .

Some of the axel nuts are 2-1/2 socket. But these are just a round socket with 4 points or slots.
