It seems like every tin grille Dodge I've owned needed this repair at one point or another. The goofy plastic wiper bushings are a frequent source of annoyance on these classic Dodges, so today I show you how to replace them. The subject truck is a 1978 Plymouth Trail Duster, but this same information applies to the Dodge Ramcharger, as well as trucks like the D100 / D150 , D200 / D250 , D300 / D350, W100, W200, W300, and the first gen Cummins powered trucks. The bushings themselves are also exactly the same as found on many classic Mopar cars starting in the 70s, including the Dodge Dart, Plymouth Duster, and many more.

I just fought this battle last week. I found it much easier to take everything out and assemble on the bench. That way you're just dealing with 6 bolts and 1 nut.

Both my 1989 Dodge Dakota and my 1979 Dodge St. Regis use those bushings. The truck is easier, but the St. Regis was a bit of a nightmare. The worst part is I've replaced those Dorman bushings multiple times. My solution was to use pin clips and greased washers. Haven't had a problem since. Now the crappy wiper pivots on the Dakota is another story....

Didn't watch the video as I've been through this before. Biggest tip - heat each plastic bushing up separately in the microwave for a few seconds to soften it up, then install. Then do the next bushing. I've only done this job once years ago, and have had zero issues doing it this way. Probably going on 8 plus years now (have to check my notebook).

@DeadDodgeGarage

Either your motor isn’t getting park power from the wiper switch, or wiper motor is bad. There are various circuit tests that could be done to get to the bottom of that. Weird problems can be caused by a lack of ground to the wiper switch, but that’s usually an E body problem - and I don’t think that’s a normal symptom.

He tried to install refills (just the skinny rubber/plastic blade itself) because he didn’t have full replacement blades in that size. The retaining clips on one broke immediately when he tried removing the old blade, so we gave up for the day. Will get full blade replacements and reinstall later.

@@DeadDodgeGarageYeah I have had them in many of my base model d/w's during those years. Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason to how ma mopar put stuff together but I was always under the assumption that it was model specific like aventurer got 'upgraded' parts. I have a 75 out back with the terrible plastic door panels (it too has the plastic wiper bushers) and its sitting next to a 75 base model with the, imho better, metal door panels and small armrests (with bronze wiper bushers). The base model has the more durable stuff on it but the adventurers all have plastic crap that sunrots and cracks.
