Good job on the diesel. I had a VW Rabbit diesel back in the late 70s. The engine had so bad of shaking the steering wheel would numb you hands. Plus I replaced two cylinder heads on that engine, I said never never again.

Hey Mike, tip for the future - I'd prefer heating up the engine up to operating temp and spraying some WD40 around them, then slowly turning them back and forth just in case they want to break. That's what I always do.

I had to do the same job on my BMW E39 525D Touring back in January of this year, all of the 6 glow plugs were dead and the car wasn't really happy to start with cold weather (longer cranking and awful start). Now with brand new glow plugs it starts like nothing ✌️

Script idea: When Glow Worms Go Bad

I replaced my glow plugs on my 85 300d turbodiesel well over 200k miles. I never noticed it running any different. What affected it more was having the valves set. That made a difference. Have you set the valves on this one? I assume they are still using solid lifters. That will make it run even smoother and more economically.

Hi Mike that knock is what every old diesel makes. Has to do with the oil getting everywhere in the engine. No worries.
