Just want to thank you, I followed your video and replaced both front axle wheel hubs and bearings on my sons 2006 Malibu. It was a pain in the a** but the total cost out of pocket was $350. The dealer wanted $1000 for both. Your instructions were impeccable. So much so a 50 yr old woman was able to do this alone ( with the aid of a sledge hammer and Ryobi 18v impact wrench)

@sampark Could the wheel bearing also be bad even if the wheel has no play whatsoever? I'm getting grinding noises from the front passenger wheel when I turn right and brake ever so often. If it's not grinding when you apply the brakes, but more when you're driving and taking a turn, it could be a bad wheel bearing. We carry new ones on our website 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

I was able to replace the wheel hub assembly on my ‘05 Chevy Malibu by myself while following this video - THANK YOU!! My traction control and ABS light were both on. I had all ABS sensors checked and was told the front passenger wheel speed sensor was going out. Found out the sensor is built into the hub assembly so I replaced the whole thing and when I was done the lights were off!! Woohoo!!

on vehicles that you can access the axle nut through the rim, you will want to do it on the ground. If you have rims that do not have a hole large enough to accommodate a socket, you will want to lower it down to the point where the opposite tire is touching just enough to get the correct torque.

Haven't tried this but an idea that might help. Use pipe , breaker bar , socket extension, etc. Jam it between two lug bolts and brace it against the ground while tightening. Just a brain fart that might work.

@1AAuto
@1AAuto 11 жыл бұрын
If everything was followed correctly in the video and you are having the issues you are, the bearing is probably bad since there is a grinding noise. You might want to recheck all of your work, including re-installing the brakes. If everything is ok, you might want to return the bearing for a replacement.

Hi there, i have a problem with my 2004 Chevy Malibu classic. I head a noise that is produced only when the car is in motion. It's almost like the sound made by those trucks with big tires. The difference is when i had someone else taking off with my car, i can't hear a sound from outside, i can ear it only in the inside. The steering wheel does not vibrate even at 65/70 mph. No bad sound when turning. I was told it could possibly be the wheel bearings. I can't feel any shaking. Any other guess?

@loser6574 You should not have to hit the axle hard enough to do any damage. If you give it one good hit 99 times out of 100 it is going to move, in my experience. If it doesn't move you need to use an axle press.

I replaced the wheel hub assembly, and am wondering how crucial it is to tighten the bolts to the specified "foot pounds"... (e.g., 85 foot lbs). I tighted the bolts so tight that I could not physically turn them anymore, but am wondering if not tightening them to that amount (also, how did you determine/calculate that number?) is dangerous? Thanks.
@1AAuto
@1AAuto 10 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! Torquing the Axle nut is the most crucial. Over torquing or under torquing it can ruin the bearings. The ones on the back aren't as important. 888-844-3393

Thanks - your videos are excellent and your printed information is precise, concise and straight up. I have major issues with replacing the right front axle bearing on a 1998 Toyota 4Runner. There was play in the hub so I pressed in a new bearing, reassembled all the components and drove four miles. I heard the sound of the rotor scraping against the caliper, raised the the vehicle on a lift and gave it the 'four point test' and there was similar play as before I replaced the bearing. Ideas?

After assembling the wheel and hub back together i took it for a test drive, and there now was a grinding sound. I suspect it to be the dust plate flipped backwards or maybe brakes grinding the rotor. Any advice??
@1AAuto
@1AAuto 10 жыл бұрын
You may want to jack the wheel up that's making the noise and turn it by hand to see if you can hear where the noise is coming from. It could be the dust shield rubbing against the brake rotor or something else that's scraping against the rotor. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

@1AAuto
@1AAuto 10 жыл бұрын
You may want to inspect the axle nut to make sure that it is torqued down correctly using a torque wrench, and also inspect the brakes to see if they're rubbing on anything. Inspect the dust shield and also the tabs on the brake pads to see if they're hitting the rotor and making noise. If you jack the wheel off of the ground, turn it by hand to see if you can hear where the noise is coming from. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

1AAP, I want to thank you for all the videos you make. You've helped me a great deal over the last few years. We now have an '09 Malibu and on passenger side while driving makes this loud whirring or humming noise and it keeps getting worse. What it sounds like is loud mud truck with big knobby tires. I took both front wheels off and there is no play while shaking it in any direction, both sides seem normal. I'm going to switch the front tires around today and see if the noise still comes from passenger side. If I switch the tires and the sound still comes from that side do you think it's the hub assembly? Thanks in advance.

These hubs are self contained, they already come pre-lubricated there isn't a way to grease them.

Will this Video 'work' for a 2007 Chevy Aveo??
@1AAuto
@1AAuto 7 жыл бұрын
+Tony Leasck Thank you for checking us out. The Aveo uses a separate set up for replacing the bearing which includes the need of pressing out the bearing of the hub and pressing it back in. www.1aauto.com/search?q=hub&year=2007&model=1047

It's hard to see very well in this video, but Mike really whacks on it with that hammer. You want to be careful not to separate the bearing from the race, and don't slam on the knuckle itself. That's typically a high heat area, so it's possible that the components are sort of frozen together. Rust can also make them harder to separate. But if you go around the hub a few times hitting it firmly with a heavy hammer, you should definitely start to see it coming off. Good luck! 1aauto.com 866-403-3393

Rotor never just comes right off unless you take it off everyday

knowledgeseeker all of my rotors come right off. Except that one car I bought from Ohio. I live on the west coast though, the rust belt is a whole different game. Penetrating oil, heat, time and a bfh usually work.
