Tedious but well worth it in the end. The Audio Technica VM95e is a great sounding cartridge at an economical price. Looks to me like you did everything right & to others who disagree make your own video.

I wanted to use my vintage M95EJ on this turntable. The tracking force spec is norminal 1.5g. Definitely I won't go further than 1.5g. Trcking force of 3g is too heavy especially when the geometry is not fine tuned

Thank you for the instructions. I want to do the same now. Is there a big improvement in sound quality after the new needle? Are you also using an outboard phono pre-amp?

You are setting the weight too much, The recommended weight of the ATVM95e is 1.5 at 2.2 gram with 2.0gr being optimal.

I am curious how the output of this catridge matched the built in phono preamp. As they say its tuned for 2.5mv output which is the default catridge. Or do you use an external phono pre amp? I want to do this and have a nagaoka MP 110 and I don't want to end up with distortions using the built-in pre amp as I use that with my amplifier which doesn't have a phono amp.

But the maximum tracking force for this needle is 2.2gr and not 2.5gr! And the recommended is 2.0gr. You set the VTF too high!

Wrong cartridge alignment. Sony copied rega tonearm and this protractor, where you have two points in the same line is useless for that overhang. No matter where you put the cart (in the middle, on the back, on the front of a headshell) on this protractor alignment will look perfect. But is not. Find Lofgren protractor which is more complicated. In reality, correct alignment is at total front of headshell. Turntable cartridge comes wrongly aligned out of the box, don`t know why.

Hi Peter, I’m having problems with the alignment of my new cartridge for this TT Sony PS-HX500. I’m using a generic Hudson Hifi protractor and it has been impossible for me to find the correct alignment. Do you know where I can find the correct protractor for this TT?

@@musica9743 I have also realized that this turntable works only with original cheap cartridge aligned in the middle of the headshell (which is also wrong according to a standard geometry) and set at 3g tracking force. I have bought Ortofon OM and no matter where I put the cartridge it sounds bad and alignment is wrong. Someone from Sony would have to take responsibility for not so cheap unit under their brand, which is good only to digitize some worn records. I went to a second-hand market and bought Sony PS-LX2 from 1981 (Made in Japan), which works excellent with original integrated cartridge. Comparing PS-LX2 with new PS-HX500, the first one sounds few stages better!

@@peterregorsek1504 Funny, the video just showed he replaced the catridge with Audio Technica and aligned it and is happy with the sound? Maybe the Ortofon catridge is not what it is cranked up to? BTW, I just replaced the catridge with the Audio Technica VM95C as installing the Nagaoka with the fixed headshell was a pain with the nuts. Aligned it with the protractor and the audio quality is sooo much better!. The lows, mids and highs all come through crystal clear. And yes, after fiddling around trying to align the catridge it did sit in the middle of the headshell just like the video. Threw a test record and the left and right channel balance and anti skate are great. So I don't know what you are whining about. This is a great turntable and if you have one, you owe it to yourself to upgrade the catridge. I am thinking of changing it out to Sumiko Olympia which I have in the future after a while to see how that sounds.
