I'll show you how to rig the two soft plastic baits that work well in the marsh for me; a DOA CAL Shad Figi Chix (Chicken) paddle tail with a jig head and a Down South Lure Chicken of the "C" (Sea) that I rig weedless.
This episode of “catch of the day” is a follow up to episode #1 where I showed the reason why I carry two rods and use these two soft plastic baits. In this episode I show you how to rig them. The first, a DOA CAL jig head and Figi Chicken (Chix) paddle tail is great, until it comes to fishing in grass beds. In that case, I use a weighted worm hook and rig up a Down South Lure Chicken of the “C” (Sea). Following that strategy helped land the big one in episode #1!

I know this video is a couple years old and I'm just seeing it, but I've been using that weighted superline wormhook for my weedless set up down here in Southeast Texas for a while now and that thing works wonders. I literally skip that DSL over oyster pads in 6" of water and don't get hung up. It's revolutionary and you're awesome for showing folks this.

Excellent instruction, I really appreciate the guidance of pre-punching the hole for the weedless DSL as I hate tearing up the bait sliding the weight through the body. Since I use Tactical quick-change clips, it really streamlines soft plastic changing with just one extra step but preserves the lure.

Hi Ron, great stuff. You said in your video that you used DOA jig heads, but didn't make mention of the size. I also didn't see them in your links. Could you let me know? Thank you and keep the videos coming.

Thanks JD...sorry for the omission. I've updated the links in the description of this video with the DOA jig heads I use now. As for the size, most of mine are 1/4, 3/8, or 1/2 ounce...honestly, it's whatever happens to be on sale. Please let me explain. The weight of the jig head affects the sink rate and cast distance. Because my marsh is typically 3' or less in depth, and I tend to employ a fast retrieve and stay off the bottom, the weight of the jig head doesn't matter as much to me...which will be a controversial statement to some. Don't get me wrong, there are times where I jig it on the bottom, and there are times when I fish slow, but for the main part I don't. I tend to try to "find the fish" 90% of the time, by ripping back my paddle tail through the top half and bottom half of the water column in two casts. If I don't get a bite, then I tend to move on. But, if I want to really fish slow and work the water column in a 3' depth then I'd go for 1/8 or 1/4 ounce. If it's windy and/or there's lot's of current, or the marsh is deep (some parts are 5'-10' deep) and I want to target flounder, I'll use 3/8 or 1/2 ounce. Hope that helps!
