I noticed the size difference when I go to Pizza Hut (GF pies are smaller and more expensive than the regular pizzas and they only have the one size). So a few years ago, I invested in a pizza stone and started making my own pizzas. I make enough dough to ensure that the crust extends to the edge of the pizza stone (or crisper pan), and I put whatever I want on it (yes, I'm a person that believes Pineapple belongs on a pizza). The GF crusts that I bake taste so much like non-GF crusts and are as soft and chewy that I don't even miss gluten-based crusts anymore.

We're definitely on the same page! I can't believe how much extra restaurants charge for a TINY pizza. 😱 I also now just make my own pizza. I made my own gluten-free pizza dough recipe that's thick and bread-like (my preference) and use my pizza stone to make a nice big pizza. I've also made pizza AND garlic fingers, which I haven't been able to find gluten-free. My boyfriend (who can eat regular pizza) loves the gluten-free crust too, so we don't need to make separate pizzas. 😄 And YAY TEAM PINEAPPLE ON PIZZA! 👏 I'm a big sweet/savoury fan! Thanks for sharing! 😄

Hey Melanie! Thanks for watching. 😁 My pizza recipe is part of my Essentials Course which you can sign up for on glutenfreebakingcourses.com. I do offer some free recipes (on this channel and in my Free Lessons library on my website), but my other recipes-like pizza-are only in the courses. This helps to support this channel, as well as the development of more courses. Thank you for understanding and let me know if you have any other questions! 🙏🏻

I have coeliac disease and am on a pension. The cost of food has led to a lot of weight loss at least 😂 I eat so much healthier simply because vegetables and portion control are an unavoidable part of my daily life now 😅 I'd kill for a real pizza though... or a brownie or ten. 🤣 Gluten free versions just aren't the same, no matter how much they've improved over the years.

Very helpful tips. For those people who are not celiac diagnosed but wish to exclude gluten from their diet ironically the government and business dont encourage you to save money as that reduces their revenues and profit that can be otherwise extracted from people with gluten intolerance.

I'm in America and went to Walmart. I saw gluten free sub rolls and there were two in there for like 4 dollars Gluten free Oreos were the same price as a normal one but they were smaller. I was happy I'm not sure yet if I have Celiac or gluten intolerant yet. I have to see my doctor. Right now I am keeping a food diary and how I feel if I eat something with gluten

Great to learn from you Robyn, can I know which GF cocoa powder & chocolates do you use? Hersheys or others?
@robynsglutenfreeliving
@robynsglutenfreeliving 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Madiha! 😄 For cocoa powder I either use Fry’s (for a cheaper option), or if I’m feeling fancy, I really like the Camino one-especially the dark cocoa powder. For chocolates, I don’t have one brand I use religiously, I always just read the ingredients. Hershey’s is really great though, and all of their Chipits are gluten-free. For chocolate baking squares, again the Camino ones are really good, but a bit on the pricy side so I save them for extra special baking. The “Baker’s” chocolate squares are gluten-free and work great, too!

Three days ago I got blood tests saying I probably have celiac. While I won't have an official diagnosis until a biopsy is done next month, my doctor suggested I try gluten free now and see if it helps. So... my fridge also died this week so there is very limited food in the house. The plan was to just get takeout for a few days until the new one is delivered, but celiac complicates that. We ordered pizza from a place that was recommended by other gluten free friends. My husband and I both paid $21 each for our pizzas. His was a large with real cheese, chicken, and a couple other toppings. Mine was a small with a gluten free crust and vegan cheese (I'm also lactose intolerant), and some veggies. He had food for the next day's lunch. I barely had enough for dinner that night. The gluten free pizza was so small and sad. I probably won't bother to get it again.

Hey! 😊 Thanks for sharing. I hope you've had better experiences with gluten-free since then-keep me posted! Let me tell you-I know the take-out pizza struggle TOO WELL. I mostly make my homemade gluten-free pizza now (for both my boyfriend and I-he loves it too), but we order sometimes when we're short on time. Same deal as you-I pay $20 for a tiny pizza that I eat in one sitting, while he gets a large pizza that lasts at least 2 days. It sucks. It REALLY sucks. I'd suggest trying a different cuisine that you can both eat-like Thai or Indian food, where you can get several dishes so that they last. My boyfriend and I often order 3 or 4 curries from our favourite Indian restaurant and eat them over a few days when we don't feel like cooking. It's probably around the same price as our takeout pizza order. (And far less disappointing!) Best of luck with your biopsy, I hope you get some answers! 🙏

@robynsglutenfreeliving

I haven't found that many of the main fast food restaurants have them, mostly sit down or local restaurants. Boston Pizza has them, pretty sure The Works has them (you'd need to ask about cross contamination though-I haven't tried them), Burger Priest. Best thing to do is to take a peek at menus of your favourite places to go, but make sure to ask the kitchen to see if they are heating them up on a contaminated surface.

Pizza I never eat as one slice is enough so that is a waste of money, oh that lovely free from loaf of bread, it is around a third of the size of standard gluten bread, so not only has the cost gone up at least 3 or 4 times, that's almost double that when you compare the size and weight to cost ratio. Check the items you may have walked past due to thinking it contains gluten, natural sauces like tomato are possibly safe, read labels as what could be safe at one point may no longer be safe, or it could now be safe who knows.

Hey! 😊 The courses aren't just recipes-I offer in-depth video instruction and baking support via the community and one-on-one as needed. The courses also go into detail about gluten-free ingredients, techniques, and equipment. If you're referring to the Bread Course specifically, there is also a sourdough and bread machine section, as well as my Gluten-free Bread Formula that will help you to create your own custom loafs. The courses are also lifetime access, so it's just a one-time fee. Because it's digital, I also update with tips, substitutions, and variations as they are tried and tested. It's like cookbook 2.0! If you have any further questions, feel free to send me an email: robyn@glutenfreebakingcourses.com

I am going to college and my husband works at a school. I understand that it is one time fee but that is still quite a bit of money. I can eat off of two weeks with that. That’s disappointing. I was really excited and looking for something that I could do.
@robynsglutenfreeliving

@@jesswithatess3381 I totally understand where you’re coming from. Part of the reason I started baking my own gluten-free goods is because the cost of gluten-free products was not affordable for me. #starvingartist I realize that it’s a big investment up front, but it will help you save money in the long run. For example, (as I mention in the video) I make my homemade loaf for about $3-instead of the $7-8 I was paying in store. If you buy a loaf every week, that’s over $200 saved by the end of the year! Also, if you try the recipes in the course and you're not satisfied, I have a Happy Baking Guarantee. I'll work with you until you're happy with the results. If you like, you can sign up for my Free Lessons and/or join my mailing list. I do offer promo codes from time to time for my courses. I’ll also be continuing to add to my free lessons library. (I have an amazing muffin lesson coming soon!) I appreciate your feedback. If you would like to continue chatting, please do send me an email (robyn@glutenfreebakingcourses.com)! 😊

An extra 125 a YEAR for bread? One of those joke size loafs lasts me 2-3 days and they’re 8 dollars each. I spend 125 on bread in like 5 weeks how is your math so off
@robynsglutenfreeliving
@robynsglutenfreeliving 11 ай бұрын
Haha-I'll break it down for you.😉 I mentioned in the video that I'm not even someone who buys bread that ofter, usually 1 loaf every 2 weeks. Gluten-free cost of loaf - $8 Regular loaf - $3 Difference in cost - $5 26 weeks (every other week of the year) x $5 = $130 That's definitely on the low end of the extra cost for someone who is gluten-free! I can imagine that for some it would be much, much more.

Considering you just said in your other comment that you spend $125 on bread in 5 weeks, it doesn't sound like the course would actually be too out of budget. 😜 You're spending $1300 a year on gluten-free bread ($125 every 5 weeks). Making my homemade bread costs about $3 a loaf for ingredients. Just sayin'. 😉 I know that the $99 course can be too much for some-I know the broke college kid life too well. I do provide some free baking lessons as well as my KZfaq content, but a lot goes into my paid courses which is why the fee is what it is. Thank you for understanding. ☺️
