As someone who loves birdifying their monsters, this is wonderful, thank you! I do have a question about usage, though; I assume when you aren't doing this for a tutorial you're making these on something like wax paper so they can be removed easily, but how do you suggest applying them to a figure? Do you make a bunch, cut them off, bend them, and then let them harden before gluing? Or do you attach them while they're still pliable? If so, any tips on doing so without destroying your delicate work? Thanks again, you have the most accessible and useful sculpting tutorials I've seen for learning detailing, and I hope to enjoy many more!

Thanks! If o were to do something like a wing or a group of feathers I would sculpt them all together, it's way easier. In case of a wing, you need to make the core of the wing using some kind of thin metal sheet and then sculpt the feathers over it

How you do back side of the leaf? Or you just leave it as it is?
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures 4 жыл бұрын
If you want to do it double sided, just take it from the surface you are sculpting it on stick it upside down on some blue tack and sculpt the other side in the same way
@maciejekhem1408

What a wonderful, informative tutorial, well done. I do have a question though, how would you go on sculpting the other side of the feather? If it was to for example hang from something and only one side would have any detail it would look a bit werid, and frankly I don't exactly see a way to sculpt it from the other side without the original one losing detail, unless you cure it first and then add even more greenstuff to the other side and then sculpt it, but that would make the feather really fat and unrealistic. I'm stuck, scared and alone with this. Please help.
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures 2 жыл бұрын
You answered your own question, you sculpt one side, let it cure, flip it and do the other, just make the first one thinner if your intention is to sculpt both sides.

@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Hm, okay, i just wasn't sure if that would work at all, I'm trying my best, but greenstuff is a scary medium to work with, so I appreciate the advice. Cheers!

Are not the feather a bit thicc in the end ? I am super interested into doing a lot and overlapping them on a cloak, but I'm afraid the result is going to be really thick.
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures

You can always make them thinner, but yeah, sculpting feather wings is hard.

And the other side of that feather , looks like that plastic base ?
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures 4 жыл бұрын
If you sculpt it over a base, yes it will. If you sculpt it over a flat surface it will be flat and of you sculpt it over a grilled cheese sandwich or will look like a grilled cheese sandwich. I didn't thought I had to explain this but the base is not an integral part of the Tutorial, it's just a good background so you can clearly see what I'm doing.

Hey there, Juan, I wonder... how would you go about sculpting a Necron ribcage (excluding the spine and front symbol)? I am trying to convert a lychguard to be female and as a result I want to try making a smaller, leaner ribcage, as well as wider hips. Thing is, I suck at sculpting and want the details (even if they are just some indentation lines) to look sharp. Some tips on how to go about it? (i intend to keep the "core" of the chest symbol, wires, spine and armor and just "tighten" the ribcage; sadly simply sanding it down is not enough not to ruin the details so it needs proper sculpting).
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures 3 жыл бұрын
Not an easy thing. What I would probably do myself is sculpt the ribcage without the indentations and then rout them out using my micromotor and a round bur. I know that doesn't help you but that's how I would do it.
