Brent: Instead of an oil pan, I use an empty windshield washer gallon. I cut the bottom 3/4 off (just below the handle). Then the thin plastic gallon is easy to squeeze between the right rear tire and the deck. I thread the oil drain hose down so it is right over the center of the bottom section of that plastic gallon... and then loosen the drain plug. Changing the mower blades number GY20683 - I just raise the deck to 4.5". Then I lay down on cardboard and loosen the bolt with a long handle ratchet with 18mm socket. I use leather gloves to hold the blade with one hand and crank counter-clockwise with the ratchet with the other. (The bolt is not reversed threaded). One change I made was to add an OEM Kawasaki FR691V engine sticker on the top of the engine.

Good video. I just recently purchased this mower. I asked the dealer about doing service at their place. I may be wrong but I swear I remember him saying $280 something for service? The kit online for this is around $60ish and would take me just a few min at home. I guess every dealer could be different but what all is typically included in a service at the dealer? That seems high just for doing this maintenance. Btw, great imformative videos. The best I’ve found yet.

I am glad the video was helpful and labor rates are high on everything these days but I am not exactly sure what all is covered in the service packages these days.

Replacing the oil drain hose for a longer one would fix that flaw in the design. Great video.

i bought this mower...make sure to get the mulcher kit installed. the quick cover does not work on this model. great mower so far.

First thing I'm going to do is replace the stock oil drain hose with a longer Drainzit hose or something similar. With all manufacturers trying to make oil changes easier, John Deere really dropped the ball here in not specifying a longer drain hose from Kawasaki or providing a better solution. Is that sheet metal that wraps around the sides and back of the engine easily removed? That would seem to make all of the maintenance access points much easier to get to.

It looks like that upper rear guard can be removed with 2 easily accessible bolts (on the rear attaching it to the lower guard) for much easier access to the engine. Am I missing something here?

hi, the left motion control lever is stiffer than the right side when you move them from forward to reverse positions, kind of like it is dampened . Is this an indicatation of trouble. How to fix this ?

All of the Z3 models are sealed units.

Is there really only the 2 grease points on this mower? (two under the plastic deck covers), I have this weird feeling I'm missing more grease points...

Why bother? Use 10w30 synthetic for vehicles. Mobel one or Castrol. Much better

What are the big differences between the z320R vs the z315E? Is having the Kawasaki engine worth it for the extra money? $500 difference here where I am? I see the seat is different and you get the lights up front and rubber floor. Are these things worth the extra?

I think this is all debatable. The extra comfort features are nice if you have a lot to mow. In my opinion it is nice having the peace of mind with the highly trusted Kawasaki.

I've only been able to get about 1qt of oil out of this engine and 1 and 1/4 back in (I'm figuring the 1/4 qt is filling the oil filter. I'm checking the dipstick as shown in the video (threads not screwed on) and it's showing full. I find this really weird, but it seems to be running just fine.. Anyone else have this?

@@loganwork7024 nope sure didn't. I've changed the oil again and same exact thing. I'm kinda worried about it now, have to wonder if it was assembled correctly (I mean it's working OK mowing my yard, but)... I just don't want to blow the thing up

@@edwardkroll9344 Mine has 8 hours on it now. I wonder what it says on some Kawasaki forums or other sites? I have the JD oil now for this change, so maybe I'll do the synthetic on the next oil change.
