We did a job with Andy Lewis and this is how we set up temporary slacklines without trees. The bolts we used can be bought at amzn.to/2VpKaTJ and the chains I used were the cheap 400lb rated ones from my local hardware store.
A more permanent slackline can be rigged without trees by building "dead man anchors", where you bury something and wrap a chain or rope around it and that becomes your anchor on either side.

I just set up in my garden in almost exactly the same way! Thanks a lot for showing us this!

A frames are also good if your tree is too bendy. A bendy tree can still have more than enough shear strength at the base.

What diameter are the bolts used to build the A frames?

What if you don't have a span set? I got a slack line as a gift, built some A frames and bought some ground anchor. Could I set it up with what I have?

If you're using A-frames, you might as well put the ratchet behind the A-frame. Or even not use any ratchets, just tension the line by raising the frames.
@HowNOT2
@HowNOT2 5 жыл бұрын
That is an option for sure. I do that at home for my 1" line. We were really low to the ground and needed quite a bit of tension for some of the participants who were some big dudes.
@augustinmoinat761
@augustinmoinat761 5 жыл бұрын
@@HowNOT2 you can still put the ratchet behind the frames, but I would actually be curious how much tension you can achieve with the "lifting the a-frames technique". The angles would play in your favour there, I'm expecting high numbers. Unfortunately I don't have a loadcell, do you know anyone with one?

Can I use some threaded 12mm Booker rod? I'll use my rattle gun if I have to.dewalt drives and snaps any bolt? Top idea.

I'm interested in the hang frames used at GGBY in 2018. We're there any significant changes compared to the designs from previous years?
@HowNOT2
@HowNOT2 5 жыл бұрын
You can see them at kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jZynaNWQm6i9qYE.html at 2:27. The threading was tricky but they were easy to adjust and required less parts which is nice when there are so many for that festival but I don't know the pros and cons vs the previous year's setup. You can pm jerry from balance community for the details as he was the one who made them.

cool video, I missed it, it is humanly possible to install them without the impact tool, with a hand ratchet instead?

Yea, that would be fine. Just takes longer.

Dimensions? I'm debating if I want the line 24" or 30" off the ground. What's the longest you set this up? I'm thinking most likely 15-20 foot long for beginners of 1" feather in a primative setup since I have some webbing to spare. Thanks.
@HowNOT2
@HowNOT2 5 жыл бұрын
24" is nice if people are new-ish. 30" allows it not to need to be so tight and I like it a bit looser

So, towards the load is the direction to lean the anchor bolts? Does that only apply to threaded rod?
@HowNOT2
@HowNOT2 5 жыл бұрын
Correct. Applys to this, ice screws and glue in bolts (mostly doesnt matter for those unless dealing with shitty rock). This screw in grass experience really showed why... it was very interesting.

hello, have you ever rigged a temporarly slackline in white sand? i live near a sand quarry, maybe i could put on 50m water line,
@HowNOT2
@HowNOT2 5 жыл бұрын
Sand requires digging. Dig a hole and bury something like wood 2x4s sideways and wrap rope or spanset around it and fill the hole back in.

Question: Why use parachord instead of say 6mm climbing chordallette? Also, wondering if anyone could explain the physics of using the threads to hold the force, rather than the leverage of the screw. I was really surprised by that.
@HowNOT2
@HowNOT2 4 жыл бұрын
Because i have spools of it as my all around workhorse. See the threads holding force halfway down this website. Same reason you put in icescrews in the direction you use them and not angled. www.bolt-products.com/Glue-inBoltDesign.htm

@robertjung8929

bigger more massive A-frames and big robust dead man anchors should be enough for a trickline.
@ShurikB93
@ShurikB93 5 жыл бұрын
@@robertjung8929 Sounds obvious, however with the massive tension in a trickline you might have catastrophic failure. So maybe some slack science is needed

I don't recommend these lag bolts. Dead man anchors for sure! and bigger/stronger A-frames.

Also, many videos suggest to NOT use trees less than 18”. So why are we chopping those trees down to 2x4” to support the webbing!?

if all the anchor bolts where in line with the slack line itself that would be best.
