How to apply Silver Coating on a metal roof. The key is in mixing or stirring up the Aluminum particles that are in the asphalt base. This takes time and you need a good paint stirrer attached to a drill.
Once you have it well stirred, then you can use a 3/4 nap roller and roll the Silver Coating onto the metal as if you would do any painting

Hello, nice Video. I just had a Modified Bitumen Roof installed on my Dormer (no granulars ). How long after install should I wait until I silver coat it for the first time ? Someone once told me I should let it "weather" first. Am I better off silver coating it or using that white elastomeric coating instead ? Also a coating with fibers or without fibers ? Thanks !!!

Question. I have a 50 year old metal roof that is long strips of steel each about 12” wide bent in U shapes and the edges are curved so they hook together and each piece is added or removed by sliding into place. The roof is in great condition but if there’s very heavy rain water tends to seep through the hooked connections,Just a little, and drips inside garage. Could i use Henry’s roof patch (in caulking tube) to fill in that seem and would it be a good idea to coat with the silver coating?

Question- I have a house on the beach- the paint constantly has rust coming through on the deck areas where the bolts & screws are. I saw a house that had aluminum on it- the whole house- do you think I can use this roof stuff to paint the house? It would be fine if it stayed Bright Silver as it's a wedding venue- and I can live with that- If it's a bad idea...why would it not work? At least on the decks if nothing else.

I am glad it helped. Don't let me mislead you. Any coating or paint or even bubble gum can stop small pinprick leaks.. But Aluminum Asphalt coatings are to be used primarily for protection against UV's, hence the Aluminum flakes in it. The asphalt is the bonding agent.

@@FlatRoofDoctor it all makes sense. I look at the roof and there’s aluminum coating. But you can see the black tar on top of the aluminum coating. So it was placed wrong. By the previous owner. So I need to fix that! Thanks!
@FlatRoofDoctor
@FlatRoofDoctor 3 жыл бұрын
@@tchavezjr I don't think "placed' wrong. It is possible that the content was not properly stirred. The aluminum is heavier than the asphalt and needs to be stirred in the container often while painting it on.

I have a gallon of turbo poly seal, the fleece and a pint of the aluminum coating from Bergstrom Industries. @@jessielynn7337 I am really not the expert on treating metal roofs. I can repair any roof. Your best bet is to do thorough research on what is the best way to go. My thought is to use Karnak 66 brush grade and roll coat it with that. Then after several months to cover it with Super Silicone Seal. The other thought is to cover the flat part, not the standing seam with Super Silicone Seal. This is just my 2 pennies worth of info. What you should not do is to cover it with paint, acrylic, paint. Any type of latex, acrylic paint will be bad. Sorry that I don't have enough experience in this field. Take care

i got mine done in fibered and from far away it looks ok but the brush strokes look shitty in alot of spots. i watched the guys slowly try to do as best as they can but i have alot of slopes and peaks and phew what a hell of a job for anyone to do. also it came out closer to a white instead of a dark silver. which matches my house decent but i wasnt expecting it. they couldnt stir it every 5 minutes because it takes 10-15 just to get to the peaks. but overall even with the sloppy spots and nasty brush strokes the appearance is somewhat shit but the protection i can feel is there when i rub my hand on the roof

My dad use this same stuff on the roof of our old house. It was a flat, black tar roof. He used this stuff to reflect the heat of the sun off the black tar. Was six three years ago. And yes, you have to mix the crap out of it. Kinda like mixin a table spoon of butter, in a plate of syrup. So you can sopp, some hot biscuits. Tear it up!!!! What I'm thakin bout!! Seriously; The dude's right. This stuff is NOT for sealing leaks. Same thing for tin roofs. This stuff is great for reflecting the heat off your tin roof as well. Excellent product. So you've got to put down your beer🍺, turn off the ball game, get out of your recliner, and go fix the leaks in the dam roof before your wife starts raising hell with you.😳👈😠 She's got a long hunny doo list for you today.😁😆

Hello, Flat Roof Doctor. Thank you for your video. I have two questions about your video: 1) Could you please clarify why you recommend non-fibered paint rather than fibered paint for this kind of job? Many roofers suggest that fibered paint is stronger and provides better protection. 2) Why do you emphasize at 6:58 in the video not to apply the paint too thick? One would think that a reasonably thick coating might provide better protection. Is there a downside to a thick coat? Thank you.
@FlatRoofDoctor
@FlatRoofDoctor 2 жыл бұрын
Nonfibered Aluminum Asphalt coating is meant to be used in a sprayer. The fibers will clog the nozzle. But, I have found that when rolling on the fibered coating, that it makes for uneven coating. It leaves clumps everywhere. I could be wrong in this case. Yes, common sense tells you that the fibers will make it stronger. But when you paint metal or any surface, the surface tension will give it strength. The metal is the strength, not the fibers. If you see the roof that I am standing on how clean and smooth that is, that is what I like. When you apply it to thick, it appears to me over time that it wants to bubble up and somehow those thick clump areas did not cure properly and pop loose. Again, I am not that smart, I could be wrong. It is just what I have seen in the past that let me say things like that.

i was thinking the same thing. and the answer is a good one. but for protection i would prefer fibered. but it isnt going to look very good. i just got mine done and i found one spot at the end where the brush was worn down. they ran out of brushes so did the last few strokes with a bad brush. this left clumps as roof dr said. after the clumps dried i picked at a few and it removes the whole dot. the only way to now fix this is to scrape that section and recoat and at this point ill prob do it myself instead of debating with the company who did it

I hope you happen to check this soon, as I am expecting warming temps soon, here in February! Nowhere on the can nor their website do they say what is the minimum temperature at which this may be applied. Could you please reply with that information?

I have used this product in temperatures of 20 degrees and up. I don't think it is wise to do any roofing below the 20's. Only in emergency
