Thanks Grant. If you are putting Stage 1 (Sound Deaner butyl rubber) under the bonnet you will need to covered them with an underbonnet product. The other choice you have is a vinyl or mass noise liner but they need to be mechanically fastened to be held in position 👍

The factory vinyl is usually molded to fit the contours of the cab. When you pull it out it's generally not a nice flat template you can simply cut around. If you try to do so, you'll likely end up with an underlay which isn't quite the right size from the template moving as you try to cut around it.

What is the reason not to add a foam and vinyl layer to the doors? Great videos thank you for the production
@carbuilders1
@carbuilders1 5 жыл бұрын
a Masonite door card does not allow for packaging clearance to hang a sheet of mass loaded vinyl, if you removed the water proof plastic membrane behind the door trim you could possibly package the MLV. We tend to find panel resonance in the outer door skin is the main issue with this particular vehicle. In reference to the foam placing a patch of acoustic liner directly behind the speak with help soften the back wave and offer clearer sound from your audio system.

Hey, thanks for the detailed video. Maybe a stupid question but why do the two layers? Would the one layer of butyl stuff ever be enough? Cheers. G
@carbuilders1
@carbuilders1 4 жыл бұрын
Hi G. The butyl layer targets panel-generated sound. If you are doing dirt/offroad driving it will be very noticeable. The second stage is dealing more with external noise such as droning/road noise and acts as a decoupling layer. This video is a good one to explain the stages kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hpqpn66q1L_Dn4k.html

You know what would be spot on as a consumer, is if for example what you have done here with the floor liner. Once all the cuts were made you laid it back out and made a template for each section with the cuts. Would save time on install and most people would probably pay that bit more if a template was included in the kit.

Quick question what's the before and after in terms of the sound drop
@carbuilders1
@carbuilders1 2 жыл бұрын
Hey mate. There are so many variables, the road surface you're driving on, whether or not you've got a snorkel, the tyres you're using, so it's really hard to give you an accurate reading on that. What we can say is that in the testing we've done with a dual cab Land Cruiser, we've managed to reduce 12dB on an unsealed road, which is perceived by the human ear as halving the volume inside the vehicle. Measuring the dB reduction can sometimes skew results as the dB measured is always going be at the peak frequency. In some cases, even though our insulation made a dramatic reduction, being at a low frequency the dB reader may not reflect it. Good luck with your project.

What about adding door rubber seals? I see ads of them everywhere and it is very cheap but i wonder if it actually works? does it actually make a difference with roadnoise in the cabin? anyone who knows?
@carbuilders1
@carbuilders1 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, if it fits perfectly. Rubber seals are a tricky one though. You'll find the factory rubbers are moulded along an engineered seal path and automotive manufacturers spend years developing vehicles and engineering rubbers which have a measured tolerance and specific compression to allow doors to open and close with ease. Each vehicle is different and a universal rubber is not necessarily going to fit.

Can’t wait. We here in the US have much to learn about serious bush camping and the equipment that goes with. Best to learn from the masters down under.

Hey mate, just one little question and something I wanted to see clearer is how did you remove and cut the factory carpet around the gear stick and 4wd controller stick, it’s a bit vague, and also how did you put the factory carpet in under the gear stick boots, it’s painful enough for me to get it out in the first place and you look like you put them back in with 0 effort...

Yes, both Stage 1 and Stage 2 in this video can be used over a gear box. Stage 1 will stop vibration and Stage 2, droning noises 👍

Hi Rudyy. This pack would weigh around 40kg with roughly half the weight in sound deadening sheets and the other half in the mass loaded vinyl.

wow was there anything you did not cover in that material. hahaha. Nice job! I just did my own car with similar stuff. But I used way less on the doors. Roof is next and will also not cover the whole roof. Just to remove the frequency from metal.
