i like how buzzfeed predicted us to be the “silent generation” cause they thought we would be so caught up in our reputation online to talk about real issues and we ended being the exact opposite

Yea, but the reason we speak up is because we’re afraid if we don’t, it will ruin our reputation. If we don’t speak up or speak against the majority, we get thrown down like nothing. So I see this generation as one of the more suppressive generations if I’m being honest. Just my opinion tho

As a gen Z I agree with the most part but we're forgetting about this fact: because of everything is getting easier being successful is actually getting harder. Everyone has the opportunity to speak to millions, everyone has the opportunity to go to university ect... It's a lot harder to get free of the majority and prove yourself. Everyone sings, what's different about your voice? Everyone writes, what makes yo different from other writers? When applying a job you need to be better than 200 people with the same education like you, so you need a university degree, a master degree, the list goes on and on. Someone your age is a millionaire thanks to their KZfaq channel, while you sit there try to figure out what makes you different from the majority. Past generations competed with people in their neighbourhood, in their city, in their country. We compete with the whole world trying to influence more and more people. What makes gen Z different is that the competition and expectation have never been this much. That's it.

"Against all authorities except from my mom!"- this is a well known motto from many soldiers, rebels, all kind of "strong men" we've had in conflicts over last century. Some people relate it to Bakhunin and this quote had apperead in many walls in many war zones, specially civil wars. Parent really could be the inspirational force to an individual or the destructive force that can kill sibling's souls. Even people who fought on the war knew that. Most soldiers died calling their moms like they were children. It wasn't their nation on their last claim, neither their brother in arms. If in time of dying that's what you remember you should really understand the force of pareting over any individual. Greetings from a millenial!

I wish this was true... we are definitely NOT less toxic. Look at video game chat rooms or fandom wars and fandom culture in general. Cyber bullying in school and just normal bullying is terrible. There is no remorse. Suicide rates are at an all time high. We were raised with stories about dystopias and toxic relationships like bella and edward from twilight being the "couples goals". Media shows us being rude and telling "the unfiltered truth" will get you farther in life. You have to walk over others' backs to ascend to greatness. We are so critical of everyone and everything, ALWAYS. Look at cancel culture. If you think we aren't toxic, think again. I'm sorry, but humans are just generally awful to each other. They just find new ways and new reasons to be awful every couple of years.

Big John They were the most entitled generation, growing up during one of the largest economic booms in US history after WWII, only to squander it, pollute the air and oceans, created a 21st century economy where living costs rose by 6x while wages stagnated or barely rose with inflation. All while still blaming young generations for not “working hard enough,” yet won’t dare get off their retirement paychecks because they know they can’t survive in this brutal economy alone. Back in their day, you could work a part time grocery store job and pay for college tuition. Nowadays, a full time job barely covers rent and a tiny fraction college tuition (all while not taking into account all other costs like healthcare, gas, and food). Boomers are the most out-of-touch generation alive at the moment.

He hit her for the first time that day because she didn’t think about the “dignity” of her family. I’m prevented from making covers , I’m a bad singer I get it. I was never allowed to do any stages at school or participate in school competitions. Except sports ,but I never liked sports.. My father wanted me to enjoy thing only what he approves of .. The reason I’m saying this is not to generate pity . I’m just saying any upcoming generation is affected by the former one. There are kids in genZ who will never be able to do what they like. I'm from Gen Z. I just want to say that this guy makes it sound like people in Gen Z are 'special' and 'amazing' and can all become easily famous and make money. Unfortunately with the nature of humanity it doesn't matter what generation you are from, it has always been equally as hard to get somewhere in life. What is hard is relative for generations. Happiness is also relative, thus whatever generation you are from when you get old you will realise you are the same as any old person from any generation as things slow down for you. Props to him though for trying to be inspirational, I'm sure there are people in this generation that can see him as a good role model and strive hard to do something for themselves.

While this is a good point, what is interesting is that a lot of people in "3rd world countries" do often have smart phones and the internet. So, while the world generally needs to be more inclusive of non-Western countries for sure, what he is saying may apply more to, say, countries of Africa than we may think. Part of that, to be honest, is stopping seeing these countries as "3rd world" and understanding that not everyone there is poor. I would say that more than anything this talk is pretty western-centric and it would be beautiful to see that lense generally broken. Because some of the things he is talking about DO extend beyond the western world and it would have been good for him to include the rest of the world or at least acknowledge he is just talking about the western world in his talk.
@mia-en2os

babyblue In all honesty I’m so sure if you looked into there’s stories of, let’s say a girl from a third world country that starts a foundation for women’s rights or something like that and gaining popularity thru use of the internet. And plusssss a lot of the charity organizations from first world kids tend to go back to helping third world kids. Sometimes...it’s okay to allow a good thing to just be a good thing.

As a gen z Colombia, it does apply, maybe a bit slow but still we’re making progress. Generations still the same pretty much everywhere in the world. A gen z here is, if not the same, than almost the same, we’re not being forgotten, we’re just a bit quiet but the amount of movements and protests just in the las 3 months is bigger that the last 5 years. Honestly we don’t need more people to talk about us, we just need our country to talk about it and wake up and I really feel we’re getting there.

Why do you cancel "offensive" jokes then, jokes that used to be regular jokes before ? Cancel culture invented by Millennials and pushed by many Zoomers, In reality you laugh about way less things then people used to do in the 80s and 90s (try to find and watch uncensored comedy sketches from Eddie Murphy when he was dressed fully in red leather, you will find bits but never the full uncensored event on KZfaq or Facebook).

And btw, if you get called out for saying something truly offensive and that made upset a lot of people then its just the consequences of your words. "In reality you laugh about way less things then people used to do in the 80s and 90s" Bold statement cus as far as I know, most Gen Z will laugh about ANYTHING. If any parent has a kid in gen z or late gen y, they always ask for help with navigating tech and the internet. Sure it’s been around for decades, but it has never become this advanced and useful ever before. Like you said, it’s accessible for everyone, but notice how gen z has gotten the most use from it. I am a Gen Z. And as much as these incredible tools we now have lead to amazing thing, the argument willfully admits a true problem that this flood of influence can drown some of the best ones. You ask us to imagine the change historical figures could have made but what if that change didn’t happen? What if they where overwhelmed by mass and never heard? It is not universal and undoubtedly the best will rise to a extent but flashiness, mass appeal and what currently trendy may have better odds. That scares me.

I agree Gen Z has the energy and momentum to make Global change, but LEARN FROM MILLENNIALS! We had that spark too but hit a brick wall when we discovered our world is full of old world infrastructure, bureaucracy, large corporate control, and a network of tight-nit relationships. Our Millennial creativity was sold to large corporations and nothing changed because of it. Millennials should be called the Sellout Generation. Gen Z needs to trust their vision, focus on their skills, break corporate control, grow reliable brands with quality substance, trust that their business and visions will give them financial stability, and build an entirely new better world by changing unfair government loopholes.
