So to recap, your nerves are sensitised. The brain is throwing all kinds of pro survival thoughts at you to keep you alive and safe. You can’t stop the thoughts, that’s the mechanics of the mind. But then there’s thinking. Thinking is engaging, and you are actively doing that, you can control that, it’s rumination, an active process. When you engage with the thoughts by thinking about it, so the brain says this must be important, and send you more thoughts around that. The brain just wants you focused on negative stuff so you know what to avoid. When you engage with the thought you reinforce it, and it becomes a habit very quickly. Remember you are not your thoughts, and that there’s nothing to engage.

I am so far in this fight or flight response that I wake up in the middle of the night with intrusive thoughts, and when I try to calm my thoughts down with meditation, breathing etc, my body starts responding instead with heart racing as if I am in a life threatening situation. It's crazy, I didn't know this is called anxiety, I thought I was loosing my mind. It's definitely caused by years of trauma in my case, as I know exactly when it started. I was fine before. Good to know that it can be healed as it is really stressful.

Yes, you cant stop the thoughts. But you can decide: to engage (fusion) with it or not. It's like a mind Tinder: true or false. You can decide: oh yes it's a false thought, and oh it's a true thought. You can chose. :)

I really struggle to apply this to my situation. I have ocd and anxiety and strong intrusive thoughts. I have intrusive thoughts about losing control and/or killing myself or suicide due to a trauma and it's stuck with me for 2+ years. I can't be alone out of fear and the thoughts are especially strong when on tube/train. Sometimes the physical anxiety is so strong with my mind racing telling me I could jump infront or the track that I feel my body jolt forwards and don't feel I could actually stop it happening. It's hard to really truly be convinced that it's just a thought. I've never been suicidal and don't want to have these thoughts, just stuck in the cycle of fear!

One thing that completely turned my life around was starting to practise Chi Gung. There are hundreds of free KZfaq videos about this. The exercises are very simple but the most important thing is that they reorganise the chi and the prana that flows through all of us and thoughts believe it or not are a form of prana. This wonderful practice revitalise and heels and nourishes the nervous system as well as the kidneys and adrenals all of which contribute to anxiety. Standing barefoot on the Earth and practicing Chi Gung was a game changer for me and my mind has become incredibly calm peaceful and happy and after many years of suffering I finally feel that my mind is on board with me and not my enemy❤❤❤❤❤❤

Hey, I am experiencing something very similar, although I dont have OCD, yet I do have those kind of thoughts. For that I have applied what they call in CBT "putting thought on a trial" meaning : "evaluate the evidence for and the evidence against the thought. We pretend that we are bringing the thought to a judge, and we need to show the judge evidence based on facts and not on feelings. " It sounds simple but its a process that is somehow reassuring in such a distressing thought pattern. I should also mention I am on 20mg of fluoxetine due to my therapist recommendation; but the most important part is working on yourself and your mind. You will get through this. I hope that helps and if you need someone to talk to and share let me know!

Its the thoughts that seem to send u into a panic sprial..... If u get a belly issue, or you wake up groggy and a bit "dizzy" most people woukd just carry on. But when youre sensitive your brain starts "oh no ..here we go ...youll neber get better, yourr going to struggle for ever, bla bla bla" These damn intrusive thoughts start the cycle every time. My dad, RIP, used to joke and say: "If we had no brains, think of how happy we would all be"😂 He was right. Anxiety is so much about the mind and how you creste your own hell. Stress, worry, planning, not planning, habbits, fear, grief. All mind.

My anxiety almost came back but I didn't let it . I saw this specific video and it just makes me feel better again. I knew it was just me and I just need to retrain my brain since I developed this habit when my anxiety was in full swing.

Most therapists have no idea what anxiety is and what symptoms it can create. The only therapists that can help are the ones who have actually been through it. There is a rare exception of therapists who havent been through it that can help you but they are very hard to find. Id stick with Shaan and Dr Claire Weekes.

For everybody watching this video I would like to suggest that you start practising Chi Gung especially barefoot on the Earth. It nourishes heals and revitalizes the nervous system as well as the kidneys and adrenals and all of the other organs in the body. When practising this beautiful passive martial art and it's wonderful easy and deeply relaxing exercises it completely clears and cleans and replenishes the mind. The chaotic energies in the head become far less dense and begin to move downwards into the Earth and become grounded by the feet barefoot on the Earth. Even if you do it with shoes and socks in your own living room it still works because of the way that this incredible healing practise moves energy throughout the body to balance the mind and emotions. Also look into taking a very high quality source of magnesium and a broad spectrum of B vitamins. Avoid coffee sugar and alcohol or at least cut them down to a manageable and safe level. Try to go to bed by 10 and get up with the sunshine and do some Chi Gung. A Chi Gung master would never suffer from anxiety or racing thoughts because his prana is stable and balanced and flowing in a healthy way throughout the body which keeps the mind clear and clean. And lastly try if possible to get yourself into some kind of spiritual community where you can form deep and compassionate friendships because isolating and being alone makes everything feel so much worse. Chi Gung has been a game changer for me after years of suffering anxiety as a younger adult. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

What I'm discovering is that the mind cannot be cured and it can't be remedied. It's like the mind has a mind all of its own. I'm discovering thru Meditation that who I really am is not my mind and I am not my thoughts and I am not the stories that is created by my mind. My perceptions about myself and the world were incorrect. By Observing the mind, you actually become more Free!! All negative thoughts and imaginations are created by the mind and what I'm finding out is that thoughts are not even real. They don't exist and it's the same thing as when one dreams at night. Further more the root cause of all human suffering is the mind! If we had no mind we wouldn't know what suffering is.

It's certainly all about desensitising but also more about detachment because anxiety isn't for no reason either there's many things that trigger us that are for a very good reason because of all kinds of negative experiences we had in the past. What i find helps stop your mind getting too chaotic is just decrease stimulation and have a few days of chilling out, don't do anything more stimulating and if you have work take it easier for a few days. Start off just lying back breath, feel yourself and be with your thoughts and feelings just let your thoughts wander and let them come out because they want to. Whenever you're on the computer or doing whatever else you're doing you're just so focused on that and don't allow your mind to just decompress it's good to just pull yourself away for an hour or so. If you don't your thoughts just tend to accumulate and get too built up so you just have to bear with them and give them space to exist, you'll feel so much better afterwards. When situations with negative people happen you need to completely detach from the situation, them and anyone else that may be involved otherwise you will ruminate about it going around and around with it, we humans are also pretty out of sight out of mind so we need to learn detachment and when and where to do it without using it to hide or avoid. If someone is effecting you in negative ways then no engagement is the best policy but you have to detach to gain a clear picture and bring down the stimulation and nervous system too because thinking clearly isn't what they want you to be able to do. In any stressful situation you need to be able to collect yourself, so you can't avoid any thoughts you're having about it and a lot of those thoughts and feelings are because you're so triggered, anxious, and emotional so it gives you time to see what's what and how you really feel about it. With anxiety it can be so hard to pull away because your brain and body is going crazy but you have to do it, you may need a few days to regulate again so it's good to have some down time whenever you need it, i just love shutting off and turning on a tv show or music or nothing at all it depends how restless i'm feeling.
