RIP, Robert Morse (1931-2022) Underrated as a versatile comedy actor

@@hemming57 I read an interview with him some years back where he mentioned that he struggled getting roles, kind of typecast, folks not really knowing how or what to cast him in. He saw Mad Men as a comeback of sorts.

Kathryn 'Kay' Reynolds in the middle as 'Miss Smith aka Smitty'. She was pushing 40 when they filmed this and looked good even next to 25 year old Michelle Lee!

I searched her up, apparently she was born in 1951 and this movie came out in 1967. She wasn’t pushing 40, she would have been...a teenager at the time. Unless if her birthdate as shown on google is incorrect...she would have been quite young at the time then.

@@berrisfueller6221 According to IMDb, she was born 10/6/27 so she probably would've been about 38 or 39 during filming.

But Morse himself said working on both How to Succeed and Mad Men felt like a bit of a time warp. He joked that he was the only one on Mad Men who LIVED through the times they were filming.

It made $6.3 million. Not sure of the budget. Nowhere near the success of the play (which was hugely successful and won a Pulitzer and many Tonys), but as many have pointed out, the climate changed a lot from the early 1960s to when the film was released in 1967.

If the film version had kept all the songs from the original show and the dances, that made it a smash hit - it might have had a chance - but they dropped them. It flopped because everyone who had loved the show were mightily disappointed in the film. They didn't actually make a film of it, they just put the camera in front of the actors and hoped for the best. It was screaming out for a director who knew what to do with stage material, but they didn't have one, sadly, and it bombed.
