15 years ago I had a bad case of prostate infection. It was so tight I could not pee at all. Ended up in ER. They put in catheter to empty my super extended bladder. I was sent home with catheter line tied to my lower leg going into plastic bag. They prescribed CIPRO for for 10 days. I did not bother reading paperwork that came with it. I trusted my urologist. My infection got better but I did have weird side effects. Page forward to 2023. I felt I had UTI. Urologist took the urine sample and said that I did have infection. He also put me on CIPRO. Went to my pharmacy to get it and the only thing pharmacist tole me was to stay away from direct sunlight. I read 8 pages of paperwork that was included listing all the possible side effects. t read like a horror story of the worst kind...8 pages !!! One of the ingredients is Polyethylene Glycol commonly found in antifreeze (coolant for your car) which is deadly if ingested by people or animals. If this is the best science can do, I'll go to a witch doctor. Why was this drug authorized?

Good video. Small point: Cipro *definitively* increases the likelihood of tendonitis. It's not "may increase the chances".

Great information. My mother is a stroke survivor and has a UTI and this was prescribed and now it seems she is having some trouble with accessive saliva. I wasn't sure if this medication may be the causation. I will check with her physician. I would be interested to know your thoughts on this.

Yes, this medication definitely does mess with my tendons. I literally feel it in my ankles and shoulders. Crazy how it can cause such a problem. Hate taking this medication.

Thanks, doc. Good info. I started this medication 2 weeks ago for a duration of 3 weeks due to an infection, which seems to me to be mild. My doctor found an elevation in my PSA number. I have felt a little nausea in my morning dose. I don't eat in the morning but wasn't advised otherwise by the urologist. Also, I do have a physical job and have felt some pain on the inside of my forearm to my elbow. I did have therapy for epicondylitis a year ago. Maybe the cipro brought that back.

I don't know if this is the right forum to ask this question, but I have possible prostatitis and I was prescribed Cipro a couple of days ago and myself symptoms seemed to markedly improve. But today I seemed to have relapsed. If I take precautions to prevent further flare-ups and continue taking the drug as prescribed will my symptoms improve again?

The pills were prescribed for my 90year old grandmother to treat UTI . Upon realising they were antibiotics, i read the side effects and was horrified! I stopped giving her the pills after she took only two pills. Two days later i took her for urine test the results came negative of UTI. I told the doctor about my concern of the medicine but he insisted i continue giving her the pills . No way am i giving her those pills!

I’d cite the science study showing percentage chance you get serious adverse effects. I think the chance is high is why it is a last resort medicine

I took Cipro in 2012. 5 tablets and I was in liver failure. Developed 75% of the ADRs listed on the Bayer literature. Now, 2024, I still have permanent ADRs. The greatest problem I see with Fluoroquinolones is their tendency to cause permanent change in the mitochondria of collagen 1a1. This class of antibiotics has ruined my life.

Hello DR, good evening, I've been treating acid reflux and stomach ulcer for the past 8-9 months now! My Dr added this ciprofloxacin today! I'm tired of these medicines. I'm still in pain, my money has finished on medication, yet I am still suffering....

My gf starts taking these since Tuesday I believe and she recently took one last night around 9 and started acting weird soon after. She been up all night, cleaning, singing, talking gibberish, paranoid, a little hallucinations and kept blaming ppl for stuff that no one did ?. Tf

I'd think twice before taking floroquinolones. Why are you taking Cipro again? I think my doctor put me on it year's ago for suspected GI pathogens and I didn't know what I know now. Having known what I know now I would have asked for another antibiotic since it was for something suspected (but wasn't even the problem). I'm not trying to cast shade on doctors but OMG there's some out there not even fit to... well.. I'd rather not talk about doctors watering my oxen.

Detox can help to clear it from the body. The more time taken the more permanent the damage.

Please add the worstest of the side effects in ur list - This is literally a ridiculous antibiotic. Within 10 minutes post putting down my throat, it gives me a worst infection of my penis. It swells , rashes , itches n starts pussing in worst case. It basically reacts on the soft glands of ur outer body, could be ur tongue as well. Any additions or suggestions, more than welcome.
