Hey Christian! An other great video!🎉 As a student of your Academy I can say that place and your philosophy helped me a lot to get fluency and confident in English spoken!😊 Now I don't care about my mistakes...I don't care about what other people think or if my level is enought. I only want to be able to comunicate my thought and being free to speak. THANK YOU SO MUCH TO BE SUCH A GREAT MENTOR, TEACHER AND FRIEND! See you in class! Nyssa❤

You are the most interesting teacher of English on the internet. I'm amazed that Austria got second place. Yes, at first the children don't want to speak russian, mother language, now the oldest child says that she prefers to read english books and listen to KZfaq with english, not german (austrian). And I'm so sad because my children - austrian, russian, jewish, finno-ugric, polish and so on, and because Austria is so americanized and that countries are losing their own culture and stories and narratives.😢 But with her method I'm trying to learn with Kids russian and other non-English languages again.🙃 Why do we in Europe have to use English in everyday life, we have such a wide variety here... On the contrary, Spain and France are good examples.

Chris, here in Brazil the english at school is too weak. In my nation, the maximum that you can to say in english is ball, cat, shoes and the phrase: The book is on the table. Of course I exaggerated but that's almost it. The system education is fail in my country, unfortunately. I learned english alone without support of my school. Past presidents have done nothing for us, what is currently can do nothing because corruption in my country's politics is absurdly huge, there seems to be nothing to do. The public's schools system is too weak, there is the enormous difference between public schools and private schools. Thanks for your help, Chris.

I agree with you. English is not the only problem in our Educational System. Unfortunately, the education, in general, is not a priority here in Brazil. We have a culture of ignorance that could be seen in every aspect of our country.

I have to disagree with you. Brazil is a great country with some important problems to solve. There isn't a "culture of ignorance" here, there are just problems (in educational system and others areas) that exist as a fact. We may say there is ignorance here (but it is here and everywhere). However it is totally different to claim the existence of a "culture of ignorance that could be seen in every aspect of our country". Your statement is absolutely untrue (as well as impolite). Sometimes people think they're criticizing but in fact they're just expressing prejudices.

Such a beautiful and timely piece of advice! Recently, I became an English teacher almost by accident. I used to be a maths teacher in Ukraine, and I had students with whom I worked remotely. Long story short, being refugees in Europe, my students' parents decided they need English even more... and now I'm an improvised English teacher for them! With my questionable B1-B2 level, I still don't feel confident enough but I'm doing what I can to improve.

Thank you Chistian for sharing your ideas of teaching. I've been an English teacher for 40 years (Oh Lord! Can it be really so long?) English is my second language, I teach it as ESL too. And I worked out my own methods and system of teaching since I realised that school educational system didn't work. My ideas of teaching are very much like yours. And I'm really glad to know that I'm not alone in my attempts to change the system. I love to teach kids, it's an absolute fun to communicate with them. But teaching adults, I mostly use the same methods, and it gives good results. It's a great luck for me to come across your KZfaq channel. Better late than never👍 I like your way of communicating with us here.

We're definitely not alone with our attempts to change the system. There is nothing more special than working with kids and helping guide them as they grow. We often don't get to see that moment in the future where that focus on communication comes back to help those kids, but trust me, they are thankful for it.

Thank you for this helpful video which contains some profound insights and sound practical advice, all based on scientific studies. The myth-busting element is refreshing to listen to. I wish you all the success you deserve with Canguru Academy. I'm a part-time English teacher in Madrid and I'd be interested to find out more about the academy, particularly as an additional resource for some of my students. The majority of my students are adult learners who have been through the school system and some have done other courses, but they all have the same thing in common which is the lack of confidence at speaking and poor listening skills. Yet, some of the time they can detect and correct my grammar mistakes! They often want to know a "formula" for getting things right, be it pronunciation or grammar, especially phrasal verbs - let alone understand idiomatic expressions. They often think that by attending more classes they will improve quicker, but I always encourage them to develop self-study skills and to practise little and often everyday is better than intense practice once a week. I ask them to read more, watch TV series/KZfaq/videos with subtitles and without subtitles (depending on their level) - but no overdubs. I ask them to listen to podcasts and music and anything they are personally interested in. I ask them to use the newly acquired language, however raw it may feel, and just practise using it with me in my lessons and other English language learners (friends, family, work colleagues etc.) - it's not essential, or even suitable, that they only practise with native speakers like me. One of the biggest obstacles to engage in this way, to communicate in a second language which is still far from being fully proficient, is a sense of embarrassment and feeling that they can't express themselves well. So, this is an important aspect to come to terms with and accept that making mistakes is very much part of the learning process. Sometimes the only way is to bite the bullet and get on with it!

The bitter truth is teaching English is also a huge business, so that many schools, teachers, wanna one believe it's impossible learning any language without applying in schools, courses, lessons etcetera. I'm italian and since some years I have been learning English utterly alone, just following channels as Canguro English, Jo English (he's a English expated in Italy) and similar. In other hand, however, my daughter, when I dare to speak in english, just to make a bit of practice, automatically start laughing and teasing me, telling, roughly "Dad, you haven't yet realized you never will able speaking English without a course, trust me, give up"... it's a kinda of clichet printed in her mind.... hard to break up
