Step-by-step instructions on how to test temperature sensor in a Samsung refrigerator. The sensor shown in the video is Part # DA32-10104N (PD# PD00026468) but the instructions in the video applies to many different part numbers and models of Samsung refrigerators. The temperature sensor is used to monitor the temperature in different areas of refrigerator and freezer including monitoring the temperature on the evaporator coil for the automatic defrost cycle. The temperature sensor on the evaporator coil is commonly referred to as a "defrost sensor".

When testing with a meter I get an ohm reading at room temperature in line with what your chart indicates. When I then put the sensor in ice water the reading increases as it cools - until it gets to about 9500 ohms - and then it goes to zero. As the chart says indicates it should continue to go up to around 13,000 as it approaches freezing - this would mean the sensor is bad, correct? Thank you
@PartsDr

@@PartsDr I checked everything and it all seemed to be working so I thought the drain just maybe clogged. I decided to use a pipe cleaner and go from the bottom up. When I went to touch the grommet the seal popped and water came shooting out. I guess over the years the rubber grommet opening got corroded and partially sealed so the water backed up and didn’t drain. Hopefully, now that it can drain, the water won’t back up and freeze up in the fridge. Note to self, check the least complicated part first. But hey…now I know how to troubleshoot the rest of the fridge…so thanx for your help.

I think the issue you are referring to is the wires that the temp sensor plugs into are breaking off in the liner of the refrigerator. If that is the case, then that is not repair able. If the temp sensor is just bad and you do not have any broken wires then it should be a pretty simple fix.

NTC Thermistors have a negative temperature coefficient. They are all rated at 25C. So a 5K ohm NTC thermistor will decrease in value as it's temperature rises and conversely increase in resistance as it's temperature decreases. You do get PTC devices but they are less commonly used in my observation. Samsung apparently uses 5k NTC Thermistors but you can get 1K 2K 10k and other values as well at 25C (or 77F). The rate at which they decrease/increase is specified in the datasheets.. If yours is 5kohm at 25C then it should be OK if is a Samsung.

Question. Soft ice cream. Our Samsung french 4 door freezer is only cooling down to about 15 deg F even though the display indicates that it has reached the desired temp (set to -8 to test). This model's display shows the desired temp before it switches to what it thinks it measured ... also -8 deg. I replaced the T sensor in the ceiling of the freezer but no difference. The freezer coils and defrost drain are both clear. To test temperature I put a quick read thermometer in a small amount of water ... let freeze overnight ... and then read the ice temp in the morning.
