I struggled and struggled with this method until I saw this video. Now I am excited because I can now get a straighter edge on a scarf. Thanks so much.

Of all the cable cast-on videos I've watched, this is the best. Well explained and the repetition helps as well

Why are people so mean? If you know how to do it, why are you here? If you don't want repeats, stop watching! I make a slip knot without thinking, but as a teacher I appreciate that you have to break the process down into foolproof separate steps to teach someone who has no idea and is maybe intimidated or nervous. I think it's a great tutorial. And doing several repeats to show the rhythm is important, and not the same as repeating a short video. Thank you!

Thank you so much, your the only person I could find that did it slowly enough and didn't have your fingers in front of everything.

this is the BEST tutorial. For those commentors who do not understand why there is repetition, it's because repetition helps you learn most of the time in instruction. The video is very good. I shared it on FB.

trust me-not everyone starts at the same place or learns at the same pace-this video is clear as crystal although slow moving for those of us who might know the basics already.

Thanks very much - this method was specifically mentioned for a pattern I am about to use. I like your slow, methodical approach. Much more likely to see what is being taught that way. Keep it up!

Thanks so much!! Most written instructions give the stitch sequence, but they do not note thereafter to only go between the middle of stitches to continue casting on!! Great video that will save tons of people from recasting those first couple stitches!! :)

My cable cast on was always wonky. When I first learned it, the teacher made us do a big twist before slipping the new-made stitch onto the needle. I never much liked the way it looked. And it ended up super loose, as if I cast on with my needles together. I really avoided using the cable cast on because of it. But another knitter told me the cable cast on is usually tighter than the long tail, and I realized I was certainly doing it wrong! Thank you for showing this very slow. Sometimes, people mean well, but they knit in instruction videos too fast. And omit some important details at times. Also, I had a problem where the movement was only showed once, and if their finger was in the way at that moment, then too bad. Thank you again.

Thank you so much for this video. I know how to do basic knit and purl stitches but I wanted to finally learn cable knitting to make a cable knit headband and so happy I found your video!! She explained and showed the instructions easily and now I learned a new stitch!!💖😍😍

Skip ahead to 3:00 to actually get to the cast on instructions, then expect to spend a full minute on every little step along the way.

thank you for this video! very clear instructions; super easy to follow :) it's kind of slow, but i think that's good -- i could skip through the parts i already knew/learned quickly and spend some more time with the confusing steps.

I LOVE this!!! I've only ever used the long-tail cast-on, so this is a great alternative. No more guessing how long to make the tail!! :)

Just curious. Is there any benefit to doing this cast on versus something like the long tailed cast on? I prefer using the long tailed method because it give me a tail that I can use to hide any awkward gaps or weave in extra pieces.
@caitzs8 жыл бұрын
You can leave any length task you wish with this. The main benefit is that you don't have to calculate the length of rail as with a long tail cast on. The tail length you start with is what you get.

I love this cast on method, however, I started a scarf with a cable cast on and then directly started 2x2 ribbing from the cast on row. I cannot for the life of me find a video/link/tutorial that explains or shows how to do a cable cast off in ribbing. I tried the stitch over stitch "in pattern" (knit knits, purl the purl stitches) cast off method but it's very square-like (my cast on is tighter and more rounded). I'm super sad lol. Any advice? I don't know much knitting lingo.

If she didn't go slow people would complain anyway because I think they don't realize they can pause and rewind a video. Best way to cast on in my opinion!

So confused..i know how to cast on..but is there a different way your supposed to do so when ur going to cable knit??....
@BannanaOnFloor10 жыл бұрын
you can cast on any way you like if you're going to cable knit, the different methods of casting on are just to give you a different edge to your work. Like I saw a pattern for a hat that called for this method. the way you cast on doesn't really effect the texture of the body of the fabric ^ ^
@spikemom20035 жыл бұрын
This is not specifically for cable knitting, it is just call the cable cast on because it leaves a cable cord at the edge of your work. I've always thought they should call it the cord cast on instead.

You can use a plastic bread closure to wrap your tail on and it won't get in your way.

The first 3 minutes of this 9 minute video is dedicated to making a slip knot! Need to get to the point of the instructional video sooner. Also, there is no need to repeat every little step more than 1 time. Friendly instructor, though! Just not a very meaningful how-to video.
@bridgecitybutterfly10 жыл бұрын
this is much too detailed for me. if anyone is learning a new cast-on, then they probably know knitting basics like how to tie a slip knot or what size needles they're using. that being said, i now know how to do a cable cast on.

Whilst this video is helpful the lady giving the instructions may want to reconsider how she is talking to the people watching. It felt a little like she thought we may have been children.
@stephaniejennings4616 жыл бұрын
HOLY SHIT WHY DOES THIS NEED TO BE NEARLY 10 MINUTES. Bernat, honey, listen to me. People click on these videos because they want to quickly view a tutorial on this or that. There's no need for an intro. There's no need for an outro. Look at your video watch-times. Nobody watches it. There's no need to introduce that we need yarn and needles. Assume we're looking at a special cast-on method because we already have a project, and that project has already told us to get YARN AND NEEDLES. Just SHOW HOW TO DO THE DAMN THING WE LOOKED UP, THEN END.

Too well explained if you ask me. Don't repeat things 8 times! Ppl can just rewatch if they don't understand. I felt like I was being talked to as if I were a 2 year old!
