I am an Indian Christian, now domiciled in Hong Kong... I was born and brought up in a traditional Christian family in India and never once faced any discrimination or suppression from anyone from the Hindu faith .. The neighborhood was mostly Hindus [few muslims as well] and we were the only Christian family around. We all celebrated Diwali, Ramadan or Christmas together, sharing greetings and gifts with each other and visiting friends in their homes and having meals at each other's houses as normal kids. We addressed everyone as ''Uncle or Aunty' and never once the thought of being different because of our religious diversities. These were the golden years of my life throughout my time in India till 2012 , when I started traveling. We knew that, though we were practicing different religions due to our family backgrounds, WE WERE ALL ''HINDUS'' AT HEART, because Hinduism is NOT a religion, it's the core ethics, principles, morality and consciousness, that runs in every Indian blood and nothing can or will ever change that... This rings true even today in my soul ! 🙏💖

I went to see him at New York center in 2018 ( the first center established by swami l Vivekananda, it’s moved few street away from original location) he was traveling at that time. What a miss. I attended evening bhajan at the center. I met a guy name Patrick, who was conducting bhajan on that day. I can’t describe the feeling, I was touched to meet Patrick. Patrick had such a divine presence that my heart started melting. Then I thought what an experience it would have been to meet swami Ji itself. What a miss man

My understanding is that the teachings of Ramakrishna, Swami Vivekananda, and the Vedanta Society are rooted in Hinduism but are universalist teachings. In the nearby Vedanta Society nature walk near Portland, Oregon there is walk in the woods with shrines to most of the great religious traditions of the world.

Hinduism occupies a unique place amongst the world religions because of its inherent nature of respecting all paths to God. Like ‘the way the cookie crumbles’ Hinduism teaches that people are very different from each other. That’s why Hinduism itself has four spiritual paths.

Swami Sarvapriyananda is my absolute favorite spiritual monk on KZfaq and I have had the fortune of meeting him in person too. Absolutely genuine person. ❤️❤️❤️ I am forever indebted to him for his talks. But I disagree with him in the fact that he is downplaying the role of Islamic invaders barbarity. In my hometown in Gujarat all the Vohra Muslims were Brahmins who were converted to Islam. So don’t feel that caste played an important role in people wanting to convert. Not denying some of the caste based discrimination that prevailed in pockets of society but one can never say it had major or significant role in reasons for conversions.

Yes, it's naked Truth that RAMAKRISHNA MISSION GLORFIES CHRISTIANITY and ISLAM. But if one closely go through the SPREADING of CHRISTIANITY and ISLAM, no doubt HOLY WARS played important part (CRUSADE/JIHAD). The words coined PAGON/KAFIR and COMMANDMENTS etc clearly speaks that OTHER RELIGIONS that are on the EARTH have no right to EXIST. Conversions, not due to caste system, it's more propaganda of EVANGELIST against SANATAN DHARM.Money, sevice etc plays important part in CONVERSIONS. (VATICAN/PETRO DOLLARS). Abrahamic religions philosophy MY GOD IS U R GOD. BUT U R GOD IS NOT MINE. Under the circumstances how is it ALL RELIGIONS R EQUAL and LEAD TO SAME TRUTH?🎂

There are so many westerners who were raised in generational families of Vedanta, or even raised in Vedanta Ashram communities, and as I understand it, there are similar communities across the West, and in South America, the Philippines, Australia--- many Gurus have been in a globalizing movement that abandons, or adapts the "cultural elements," to become more accessible to other cultures (quite successfully too), and less entangled with trappings.

One important point that the Swami has mentioned else where is the Unity of consciousness. Hindus believe that all consciousness is one and that points to the all knowing nature of the divine. Hindus also believe this nature of the Supreme is demonstrated in the lives of the Guru who is the window to the infinite & these qualities become the nature of the Enlightened ones. So non dual realism is not mere philosophical constructs but has practical manifestation in terms of heightened knowledge, boundless love & compassion.

India has always been a great sanctuary to persecuted religions for multi millennia! Story of Jews & Christians as refugees who were welcomed w open arms with no question of conversion is not known by the world! Islam came first as traders to south India & invaders in north. Invasion brought atrocities like massive slave taking, forced conversions and leading to Hindu society’s adjustments via child marriage & jowhar (dead bodies of Hindu women were abused by Islamic invaders; women did not want to leave their dead bodies around). Without debates between religions and just ramming some faith down people’s throats is completely wrong!

I’m tired of western speakers seriously mispronouncing Indian names. How can anyone not know the name of the guests especially important guests that you are going to talk to. As Indians we are perpetually being politically correct about this and downplaying it. But this is a very serious impediment to understanding and coming together of cultures. A rickshaw puller on Indian roads will pronounce a western name better than a western scholar. How can we correct this? I’m tired. And I want to see an end to this. I’m confident this is the most important step before discussing other topics in depth.

Just observe hindi alphabets and and part which is involved carefully. U will understand how deeply, carefully and scientifically it is designed. @@JV-tw6lt No they can't, give me 1 example where 1 English man can speak hindi or sanskrit fluently, the simple reason is there vocal system is not developed. That includes coordination of tongue lips and vocal cord. Interesting u quoted Shakespeare, now see 300 years back English was not what it is now. My only disappointment with this is that the Swami is giving the western audience what they want to hear rather than the "facts". We can not brush aside the European origin of the caste system or the violence against non-believers built into the theology of political religions like islam, christianity or communism. Though in his defence, it would deviate from the topic at hand. Much like the Hakkenkreuz or the Hooked-Cross of the Nazi's being deliberately mistranslated by an Irish Catholic priest to the Hindu Swastik, has been conveniently accepted by a whole generation from that era, even though they knew the truth.

I can understand your disappointment as a Hindu or as a Sanatani! Simplifying the Vedanta to westerners is a tremendous amount of task and efforts!. While explaining he has to leave certain things intentionally and some times he has to do some appropriations between the Vedic and the Abrahamic in his speeches to make them understand the things. The Vedanta is not a easy read even for an intellectual westerners. But atleast, in modern times few of them are taking interest in it. Here the audience is divided in to two I.e., the Vedic and the non-Vedic!. Peace!

With due respect to Swamy ji, my two cents. I have posted this many times on his videos. Let’s not be politically correct and say stuff to satisfy the Christians and Islamists. Swamy Dhayanda Saraswathi ji always maintained that all religions are not the same and goals of all religions are not the same either. Christianity and Islam are religions of EXCLUSIVISM, my way or the highway ( to eternal hell)!! Swamy Ji, please do not compare God centric DHARMIC RELIGIONS of India with that Abrahamic religions. Swamy ji’s own Vivekanda said” if a Hindu converts to Abrahamic religion, there’s one Hindu less and one enemy more “. Swamy ji, why don’t you quote that?? If Christian becomes good christians, it will be so terrible for the world. The genocide around the globe was done by true Christians. Hitler was a good Christian. ISIS think they are the true Muslims. In this age of information overload, let’s not generalise and equate Abrahamic religions with their history of genocide are somehow similar to enquiry based Dharmic religions. Appropriations by any name is cultural genocide. Pagans disappeared but some of the appropriations are repackaged as that of Christianity. Easter, Christmas for example. Abrahamic religions are PREDATORY in nature. Christian yoga is an example. Vipasana gets repackaged as Mindfulness. Nothing cosmopolitan about “ stealing “ which is another name for appropriation.

@@hershchat Your statement of Masjid and Shivling being the same, shows thay you don't know the abc of Abrahamic religions. We invoke divine in Shivling, it is sacred, Masjid on the other hand is just a place for Muslims to come together and pray while Temple is a home of god for Hindus. In Hinduism god is imminent and transendent while in Abrahamic religion god cannot enter its creation hence animals etc don't have atma and hence are to be consumed for man's pleasure. There is a difference between sky and earth between Dharmic religions and Abrahamic religion. Please read one sided sameness by Rajiv Malhotra and do purva paksha of other religions. What you are taking about is transcendent reality we all are one, but still in transactional reality I am different from you and my believes are different from yours, if your belief says to kill and convert me by hook or crook and I will make sure you don't survive because that is adharma. Adharmic religions bent on converting by money, power and numbes must be eliminated for betterment of society atleast the adharma should be removed from their religion otherwise its like sheep saying both tiger and sheep are same , this will only get you eaten. As far as term Hindu is conserned it doesn't matter who assigned the term, I can call you bird and keep you in a cage you may shout that you are a human doesn't matter, similarly if others call you Hindu as you being different from them you don't have a choice. Hence say proudly thay you are a hindu following Santana Dharma otherwise keep living in a fools paradise.

@Anonymous thanks for the note. Shankar aachary, before him Govindpaada, before him Gaudpaada didn’t consider themselves Hindu. Kumaarila bhatt and Mandan mishr didn’t call themselves Hindu. Manu did not write about Hindu dharm. Krishna was ignorant of this term. While Ravan worshipped a Hindu Deity, there is only one mention of Rama worshiping a deity, and that not in the original Valmiki version? This is not a case of “a rose by any name”. We are surely not quibbling on the mere appellation of Hindu or Sanatani, etc. This is more substantive than that. Before I attack your position, I want to admit three things. One, I don’t know you or your position. I don’t want to troll you and vitiate a potentially edifying and learning experience by being the usual KZfaq jackass (and hope you won’t either), two, I attended RSS Shakhas when in India, and really like the ideology and the people and, finally, I am a devout, janeoo wearing Hindu. I do a once a year havan, and daily 30 min pooja, and try and observe as much of Diwali Holi in the US that I can. I am a nationalist and a Hindu. Not a Hindu nationalist. “Hindu” can be a simple referent to a various people. Like, “the Amazonian people” or “the Theatre folk”. Just a noun for a congeries of identities. To me, that’s what it is supposed to be. From the Munda tribesmen, who are not orthodox, to the Naga and the Sikh, the Bhutanis, and the Malaya, and even some Jain and Shinto. All are Hindus in this sense. That’s not what you are talking about. You are constructing an imagined nation of orthodoxy and affiliation at par with the Roman Catholic identity, or the Nazi identity (RSS was a not so subtle emulation of the Nazi SS). This program seeks to dismantle a masjid so a phallus idol can be consecrated there, because a few centuries ago something happened. That would be ok if we didn’t have limited resources and time in which to solve other pressing problems. Such as poverty, pollution, corruption, inequality, and lack of education, etc. Let’s not say we can address many problems at once. The tens of millions for whom the Gyanvapi mess is a top focus, they could be demanding better governance and having an impact. The distrust this issues creates between Hindus and Muslims only helps the corrupt rulers, and other enemies of India. This only helps the enemies of India. Which is why Hindu Nationalism is treasonous. Apologies if I was disrespectful.

Buddha rebelled against vedanta in his entire life, people like Sarvapriyananda and his teacher Vevekananda and Shankharacarya were always against Buddha's teaching. He talks about Tibetian Buddhist which is far from Buddha's early teaching. Theravada Buddhist has the record of Authentic Early Buddhist Text. People like you (sarvapriyananda) have destroyed the Gem of Buddha's teaching from its birthplace India.

I doubt Buddha has learnt vedanta, he might have some knowledge of ritualistic Sanathana Dharma and rebelled against the ritualistic part of it. He went out found his path. But that doesn't make his path any superior to Hinduism. It might be a spiritual fit to people like you. But that's OK as well.

@@wrathofhade Yes completely agree with you. Besides the Buddha's teaching, Budhdhist has done a great job of Christionising Budhdha in a same way the Churches has done for Jesus's teaching.
