How to Tie Line to Reel Spool - Arbor Knot Tutorial

How to tie your fishing line to your reel spool using the simplistic arbor knot, the arbor knot is a great choice for this application because it cinches down on the arbor and is very easy and quick to tie. Simply create an overhand knot, wrap the line around the arbor and then run the tag line back through the loop that you made. Pull tight and then make an additional over hand knot on the tag line, this prevents the line from pulling through. Simply trim your excess tag and you are all set.

Good tutorial. I tie a double square knot on the end of the line, cut the tag close and then a simple slip knot from there. Stretch the slip knot open, slip it over the spool and pull it tight. Try it, you might find it to be an easier and faster method. How's the fishing been?

Hi Josh, I'm Adam and I'm in the Hamptons on Long Island and I recently got a fishing rod from Amazon to fish under the bridge in town and I understand how to do the knot you show to tie the line to the reel spool however I'm having a problem getting the line to go around the reel at all? I put the bail down and even tried like ten rounds first. It's a Pusssino telescopic fishing rod. From Adam

Hey! Is this a knot you can use on fireline line? I’ve heard something about fireline having its own knot or something? This will be the first time i tie the line myself (about time) so I am looking for some simple (but strong and good) ways to do it. Your instructions for the knot was super easy to follow but for some reason I couldn't get it to cinch down on the reel and get tight. It was fine after I just wrapped it by hand a few times.

I did this on my spinner reel and the knot worked but the line doesn’t tighten up on the reel to hold more line. The knot itself spins around the reel in a circle without dragging more line on the reel.

Typically there are two main causes of twist, not reeling the line on tight and lure twist, try adding a small swivel a foot above your lure and see if that helps you.

You did it wrong what your supposed to do is wrap the line around the arbor and the with the short side make the overhand knot on the long piece of line and then with the access line then you tie a overhand knot with the tag and then you can’t stuff it up because then when you pull it tight you have a tight knot I’ll make a video on my channel in a couple of months if you guys want and don’t understand
