This is the fishing knot that never fails and the knot that every fisherman must learn to be able to fish, a very strong knot, a very secure knot, an easy knot to make and that is not only used for hooks but for any accessory of ring.

This knot, and the variants of it will be good for 98% of the light fishing you do. Tensile strength studied have shown it's not the strongest but it's still the best. Make sure you use saliva on the know as you cinch it tight. It will significantly help and reduce friction heat when you pull it tight.

I lure fish for Bass on the Llyn Peninsula in N Wales where I live and have caught them up to 12lb from the shore. I use Daiwa sensor 8lb bs and rarely if ever lose a fish. I’ve also caught Pollock up to 8lb from the same marks on exactly the same tackle. I tried braid some years ago and found that it does not fish anywhere near as good as light nylon as it doesn’t cast as far and doesn’t cut through the water like nylon. Nylon is far far cheaper and much better than braid to lure fish with p.
@ryanpark2049
@ryanpark2049 2 жыл бұрын
@@happyguy5414 eh braid has it's uses, for example top shotting half a spool with mono or flouro on top of the braid which takes weight off the spool. Fishing the thick on top with frogs or bottom with jigs.
@happyguy5414
@happyguy5414 2 жыл бұрын
@@ryanpark2049 I agree with you that braid definitely has its uses especially when fishing for very big fish or in very deep waters from a vessel. However I’ve switched back to light nylon from braid for all of my shore lure fishing for Bass. 6 - 8lb nylon will out cast braid by a long way and light nylon doesn’t suffer from wind blow like braid does. It also cuts through the surface film much better providing a real advantage with shallow diving plugs. Also nylon is far cheaper than braid meaning you can change a couple of hundred meters every 6 or so outings as I do. Since changing back to 8lb Daiwa clear sensor a couple of years back, my Bass catch rate has quadrupled compared to what I’ve been catching on braid over the last 10 years and I’m fishing with the same lures at the same marks.

The Palomar Knot is the strongest fishing knot in many situations. This knot only has 3 steps making it extremely powerful and very basic. Since there are not many twist and kinks in this knot it makes it extremely tough to break. It can be used on Braided line and Mono-filament.

That is my personal favorite, but it doesn't work in every application. I fish with hulapoppers often in the summer. The cup on the face makes the Palomar almost impossible to rig. For these situations the knot in the video is my best option.
@ahndeux
@ahndeux Жыл бұрын
Palomar Knot is a 90% knot AT BEST. It breaks every single time on the knot. Only the Trilene knot is a 100% knot. I ran over 40 tests on the Trilene and it is a much better knot than the Palomar. The Palomar is also not useful when you need two of the same knots on a swivel since it requires going over the hook or swivel. This knot is very similar to the Trilene, except the line goes through the single loop. The Trilene knot goes through the two loops on the hook. I ran some tests on my automated digital tester and this knot was able to reach 100% knot strength on only one of the test runs. The Trilene is more reliable to get to 100% knot strength. This knot seems a little touchier to get right so I'll stay with the Trilene knot.

@@ahndeux Dude watch old video's of knot wars and you will see that the polomar knot is a 100% knot.
@ahndeux
@ahndeux Жыл бұрын
@@sharongrosscup6956 Not even close. Its not a 100% knot by any sense. Most of those knot "wars" are BS because unless you tie over 100 of the same knots, there is no way you can compare statistically. Every single knot is slightly different and the ONLY way to get useful data is to take a lot of data. I take over 40 calibrated tests per knot and there is no way in HELL the Palomar is 100%. It barely broke past 90% at best.

That was the best presentation for the quickest knot to use on the boat, inserting the line through the hook twice makes a better knot than the basic Clinch knot which provides more than 95% of the line break power, as a recommendation, use less loops with thicker monofilamt lines to avoid fraying the line while tightening, well-done.

I've been tying this since the 80's, and actually, I was surprised he didn't tie the "improved" version where the tag end was compressed under the two loops through the hook eye. I wonder if there's some reason why that's less effective or not worth the trouble due to diminishing returns in knot strength.

After wrapping, I thought the tag end was supposed to be passed through the double loop thats in your left hand. At least that's the way I've been doing it.

I agree. This video seems to show an incorrectly tied Trilene knot.

We always called that "The Fisherman's Knot". Started doing that in about 47 years ago, when I was about 12.

@@deletetruth8771 Thanks, Methuselah. What's this "we" shit, Kemosabe... you got a mouse in your pocket, and is HE 5000 years old, too? Do you mean "man" and the noose or just "knots"? If it's the "I did it first knot", what's this "we did it 5000 years ago, shit"? LOL I wasn't commenting that the "Fisherman's Knot" was invented 47 years ago or that I was the first to employ it, or that it was a competition. I was just sharing an anecdote with Danny, that we called it something different, and since we were using that knot around the same time, I wanted to see if it might have been a "regional" thing. As W.C. Fields said on numerous occasions... "Go away kid, ya bother me." Peace.
