Here is how to understand the bible better by avoiding some VERY common mistakes that most Christians make when studying it.
When you study the Bible, are you studying it the right way? Many people read the Bible, but many Christians struggle to understand it because...we don't know how to correctly read the Bible. In this video I provide 10 very common mistakes many Christians make while trying to read, study and understand the Bible.

Ive been praying before reading the Bible for a couple of months and asking God to write the words in my heart and believe me I have seen the difference..! I used to get bored and not like reading the Bible and now is something that I look forward to and I test my self to see if I still remember what I read. I also pray that God lets me understand the Bible in the ways that He wants it to be understood and not be influenced by my own views.

@@michaelquintana678 Hi! I dont literally remember word to word but what I feel helps me is writing down like a paragraph or two on the highlights of the chapter and add notes to that. Then from that I mark what I feel is the core of each paragraph. It takes a bit more time but that's the method that has helped me the most.

10 mistakes: 1. Not starting with prayer 2. Elevating your experience above scripture 3. Reading the Bible instead of studying it 4. Using the Bible as a self-help manual 5. Trusting in someone else's interpretation 6. Allowing your worldview to influence how we interpret the Bible 7. Picking which verses of the Bible we want to observe 8. Taking verses out of context and forming a theology around it 9. Not comparing the Bible with the Bible 10. Thinking that you know everything about the Bible and that there's nothing more to learn.

4movecheckmate This is how anyone can determine this advice is poor: wherever you hear Bible substitute Bible for Qua-ran. Then see if the advice is still good. Just about every Christian would find the advice repugnant, and for good reason. It’s not about the beliefs being justified. It’s about the belief in belief feeling justified. And people liking the sense of feeling justified. How does it all change when instead the advice is: 10 mistake for reading the Qua-ran 1) Not starting with prayer to Allah. 2) Elevating your experience above the scripture of the Qua-ran 3) Reading the Qua-ran instead of studying it. 4) Using the Qua-ran as a self help manual. 5) Trusting in someone else’s interpretation of the Qua-ran 6) Allow your worldview to influence how you interpret the Qua-ran 7) Picking which verse of the Qua-ran one wants to observe. 8) Taking versus of the Quaran out of context and forming theology around that. 9) Not comparing the Qua-ran with the Qua-ran 10) Thinking that you know everything about the Quaran and there is nothing more to learn. Every holy book survives by appealing to people deciding to have faith in the the holy book for the sake having faith in the holy book. This is a ridiculous circular foundation for any beliefs. It is completely unjustified.
@jamesmagwenzi6058

This is why the world doesn't like the bible because it contradicts their personal beliefs or view.
@firefalcoln
@firefalcoln 5 жыл бұрын
James Magwenzi I’m not Muslim. I’m pointing out that the Bible’s has all the same problems of other holy books. I’m pointing out that it’s hypocritical to suggest that other people shouldn’t believe some other holy book’s claims of supernatural occurrences on faith in their misunderstandings, while doing that very same thing oneself. It’s silly to insist that one’s beliefs are justified if their pathway reflects a pathway to believing another holy book for similar reasons. This isn’t a reasonable pathway to confirming the astonishing supernatural claims of one’s religion are correct. This is a pathway to finding comfort in believing in believing, or having faith in faith or reliance in the Holy Spirit or believing their holy book on faith. One can spin it a lot of ways. It can be faith in believing or believing on faith. Or trusting the holy book on the merits of the experience one attributed as real because they believed in God’s power due to their faith. All of these are fallacious circular pathways of thinking one’s beliefs are justified before there is actual reliable demonstration. First one must define one holy thing or set of holy things and describe a method of proving the beliefs are true by also having some potential results which would lead one to believing the beliefs are false. Then go forth and demonstrate the results lead toward the true conclusion and not the false conclusion. Then a religion would have some good justification for the seemingly magical claims of their religion. We all have a confirmation bias where we expect this kind of tough scrutiny for beliefs we don’t care to hold while rejecting this behavior as unnecessary or insulting for the beliefs of one’s own religion or one’s family’s religion. We resort to saying things like, “my religion makes me happy and does good things, so why bother worrying about the validity of the more difficult claims of my religion? The happy feeling is its own reward.” The problem with this is that unjustifiable beliefs lead to unjustifiable behavior. But one doesn’t realize it’s unjustified because of they are in that circular trap I described earlier. Religious people fight contemplating that one could believe any supernatural claim merely because it can’t be proven to be false. And nothing asserted as supernatural, by definition, could ever be proven false by the people making the claims and holding to the beliefs. When it comes to favoring one specific supernatural explanation over another it’s at best a crap shoot. Meanwhile there is nothing good one does for the sake of their religion that one couldn’t also do for the sake of the thing being good. And then one doesn’t also have to worry as much about committing atrocities by holding to religious absurdities. If one wants a reliable pathway to truth. Look for a system which is self-correcting and holds beliefs due to their method’s continued reliability in only asserting a few things and holding to a few assumptions which are necessary for any coherent dialogue. Logic and the scientific method seem to be the best systems for finding truth or purpose or awe or love. The first clue that they are better than a “religious system” is that they are systems. Religion calls itself a system when really it’s a set of proclaiming which are meant to be accepted without question. And no truthful action or objection of a mortal person could dare to overturn these proclamations from a God! How dare one even suggest such to better understand reality than God? It’s a trap to avoid actually working as a system at all.

Hello Kiaren I understand exactly what you’re saying. This also happened to me, not understanding the Bible and not having a lot of Christian friends. A lot of my family were telling me not to push this on them, so I didn’t. I did exactly what you just said on your text. I found myself a good church surrounded myself with good Christian people. I am now going to church on Sundays, going to Bible study on Wednesdays. And signing up for all these programs to give back. And guess what? Now I’m surrounded by a family of Christians, it’s been wonderful! 💕 oh and the most important thing is that I became a born-again Christian!

Haven’t watched it yet but seen that we should always pray first, I did this when I first got saved and then stopped to “save myself time” so I’d just pray after and been doing that for months. I agree with so many of the comments saying I stopped praying before and got distracted so easily and just couldn’t focus. Id absolutely agree with all of those comments. It’s harder for me to focus with it ever since and I’ve found I don’t take much away from the Bible if anything every time I’ve read since, and I’ve just been in a world of hurt. This is an answer to a prayer. God is good. Thank you for the video! ✝️❤️ John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Som so that whoever believes in Him may not perish but have eternal life.

You Tube has Steve Lawson teaching on expository preaching. It is an excellent course. I took notes and it changed the way I study and teach the Bible. Check out Bible Hub and look at the Lexicon for Greek word study. Study Books of the Bible for a better understanding of context. Try to avoid looking for verses to prove what you want to teach (Proof-texting), use observation (what does it say?), interpretation (what does it mean?), and lastly, application (how does this apply to myself and my audience?). The original audience's understanding in light of the culture and issues of their day will help to stay grounded to the truth that is universal. Hope this helps you. God bless you

This was awesome and well said. One of my favorites. He was very passionate like he struggled with and overcame every single one of them, and trying to save us from doing the same things. He really knows what he is talking about. My biggest mistake was taking what someone else says "as Bible", because they are more educated or more influential than me, although they are so appreciated. But everyone has a chance to live for God, and to study to show themselves approved to God. Those teachers and preachers that I listened to that encouraged us to study the Word for ourselves are so right. A babe has yet to determine what is sound theology versus dogma, philosophy, or manipulation. Just like in the natural, we have to live it out ... fall down, say the wrong thing, do the wrong thing, but it's important to keep practicing in faith and grow so that we quit making the same mistakes. At some point we need to pickup the spoon for ourselves, instead of being spoon fed. We aren't developing our muscles otherwise. Also, we have to make sure we're not listening to someone who is cherry picking for us. Again, it's that we won't develop. It may not be laziness. Some people are like the seed parable where they happily received the word and did the word, but it hadn't taken root yet, or it became scorched or choked. In the years I have come to believe, there are still some truths I haven't heard from the pulpit, but are in the Bible for us to read any time, to have an open mind, to ask and to listen. Experience is a good teacher when it lines up with the Word. God has ways to provide an answer. Like he so well teaches and says in the video, the Bible is written FOR us, and with the word of knowledge, wisdom, understanding, and the Holy Spirit, God makes sure we have everything we need to live victoriously and have our confidence in God. Everyone's process is different, and we need to honor that and be encouraging, not mocking in our hearts or demoralizing.

Thank you. I need Bible study tips. I just finished Job and it's an amazing book, even in all its darkness. Lately I've been writing down bits of scripture from the Bible and using it as a writing prompt, giving my thoughts on it, then looking at what others say about the same passage and see if our views align.

Awesome video Allen! Helps out a lot. I struggle with though knowing when God is trying to speak to you or not. Like I’ll run into either a verse that speaks to a spiritual struggle I’m going through but then Other times I’ll be thinking of someone I haven’t seen in a while or a song or even a subject and I’ll see them later of noticed people will be talking about the subject or hear that song I was thinking about. Idk what any of these means. You know scripture that might help or have an idea what it’ll be?
