If you have an FCA vehicle that utilizes 3G mobile data, you MUST take action to continue your UConnect Subscription Services. Watch this video to find out how you can upgrade to 4G service, HOWEVER, note that many features that were available with the 3g service will NOT work with the 4g adapter. Please read through the comments for additional details on feature compatibility.

Hello Everyone! Apparently, this does affect 2017 FCA models as well. Also, in the two years since this video was posted, many viewers have posted helpful comments about additional features that do not work with the adapter, as well as the fact that it will not work at all in some FCA models - like the Jeep Cherokee. It was impossible for me to test every available UConnect feature at the time this video was posted because 3g service was still active in my area and most of these features only stopped working once 3g was shut down. I'd strongly suggest that you read through all the comments to find out if a feature important to you is supported before purchasing the adapter. If you decide to get the OBD cable splitter, make sure you get the kind with the rounded cable, NOT the flat ribbon cable. The flat cables don't work with many devices, including the 4g adapter and the Tazer. Here's a link to the one you SHOULD get. Great info, glad to see this explained. I have a 2016 Hellcat and the only thing I have used the data service for is the Travel Link. I've used it maybe 3-4x the whole time I've owned the car so losing that isn't going to be a big deal. I don't think I'll bother with the 4G dongle in this case!

Yeah, this is really meant for people who are already paying for the Uconnect advantage subscription, which includes all the additional things i mention in the video. I'm pretty sure the travel link option is something separate. If you don't have the advantage subscription then it really makes no sense to use the 4G option.

Never use a constantly powered obd2 plug such as this or those stupid insurance ones. Your vehicle is not designed for that, and diagnostics aren’t even the best on your computer/obd2 port, you will eventually burn out your computer if you run these. YOU WILL ESPECIALLY BURN OUT YOUR COMPUTER IF YOU HAVE MULTIPLE PLUGGED IN AT ONE TIME. Those are very small wires 🤦🏻‍♂️

Everyone check and make sure your devices are plugged in after vehicle service. I had a windshield replace last week. Never even occurred to look afterwards. But part of the replacement process is camera calibration. My AutoStop Eliminator stopped working. I found the device laying on the rubber mat back by the seat floor mount. Thanks for this great video. At this time it's the only source for info out there I could find. I have a 2013 RAM and activated the UConnect to remote start for the Minnesota winters. I did the activation online and a couple days later I have one of these devices in the mail with zero explanation as to why they sent it to me. I did follow the instructions to install, but even after driving for 20 minutes the connection light stays blue. It never turns green. It says it should turn green when activated. Is yours green? Or won't it turn green until January 1? Also, do you know if this will give us more detailed information? TMobile's SyncUp gives you things like battery, gas level, etc. I have to imagine its essentially the same device so it would be nice to have those additional details. Thanks again for the video and any further info you can provide!
@CTHellcat
@CTHellcat 2 жыл бұрын
I think it should be green, but one way you can tell if it's activated is via the wifi hotspot. The hotspot feature works now, even if the Uconnect system doesn't switch over until 2022. (Hotspot name and password are on the white box). So connect to the hotspot from your phone, and if you can access KZfaq than the device is active. I'm not sure about the additional vehicle info. We may not know until the cutover is complete.

I have a 2016 RAM 3500 with the T-Mobile adapter plugged in. The UConnect app functions appear to only work when I can get the 3G icon to turn blue with signal bars on the UConnect screen. I have to keep press/hold the power and tune buttons to restart the radio, normally twice, and can get 3G icon on the UConnect screen to turn blue and signal bars to show up. @CTHellcat

As far as I know the 4g adapter won't start working until the 3g services are turned off by T-Mobile. If you are still getting any kind of 3g signal, then those services haven't been shut down yet. I was not notified about the 4G adapter until I called UConnect to reactivate so I could once again make use of the hands-free messaging capabilities. Lo and behold I find out the they have discontinued the hands-free messaging and the Send 'n' Go functions! The rep I spoke with explained that I would have to use my Google Assistant to send or respond to texts while driving. Hmmm. I went ahead and had them send me the 4G adapter but between finding out that when plugged into my 2013 Ram's OBD-II port the adapter hits my left leg when entering/exiting my truck, and the buggy initializing and connectivity, I'm axing the adapter. Can anyone tell me what aftermarket infotainment system(s) out there will restore the hands-free capabilities? Thanks!

Are you talking about the app on the uconnect console itself? Or the uconnect app on your mobile device? The app on the console will NOT show any subscriptions, because the app cannot communicate over the 4g device. In fact most of the uconnect console apps will no longer work. Pretty much all the device can do is the remote start/unlock, and vehicle tracking, when you use the uconnect mobile app on your phone. The other primary benefit is that they include a 4g wifi hotspot feature (2gb per month) for free.

@@CTHellcat That's what I feared. When they turned off the 3G band for the car, they didn't tell people those frequencies will be used for the fake 5G support. Meaning the 3G radios are still picking up data it cant understand. This causes the radio to stop working and I lose almost all audio (only the ford sync works) until I master reset the radio.

I received this email from Uconnect a couple days ago. Try it yourself. We have identified that your 4G adapter device may not be performing properly. We are asking that you follow the below instructions in order to get the device to perform a software upgrade: To begin, 4G OBD device should be plugged in and not removed for at least 24 hours After 24 hour period, turn Ignition state to ON (vehicle running) Depress RESET button for 5 seconds and then release (LED lights will blink and then cycle off and back on) Wait 5 minutes and then turn Ignition state to OFF (vehicle not running) Wait 5 minutes and then turn Ignition state back to ON (vehicle running) *The device should perform a software upgrade, taking only a few minutes to download and you should be all set. Please note: With device reset, your Wi-Fi password will revert back to the default password (uconnect + last 4 digits of IMEI on 4G adapter.)

Hmm - The 3 things that I clearly indicate are possible with this adapter (remote start/unlock, vehicle location, and wifi hotspot) are still working flawlessly in my two vehicles after over two years of use. It was impossible for me to test every Uconnect feature at the time this video was released because the 3g service was still functioning in my area. It was only after the 3g services started going away that people started commenting about features that no longer worked. As with any old video, you should read through the comments to find out the latest information about the topic covered in the video before posting a "useless" comment.
