New to the climber world and put it to use this hunting season. kzfaq.infoUgkxlQ7TDIrnnSXXbRgFFaxqwullRJJIuYAs I felt safe while climbing up and down a tree. It did take some time getting used to climbing and descending the tree. Once I figured it out I was comfortable going in climbing a tree knowing I was going to be up a tree quickly and most importantly quite not scaring every deer out of my area. I am 6’2” and 240 lbs, fit and comfort were great. I bow hunt and found no issues hunting from it. It is a little bulky to carry in and out of the woods vs some of the smaller open front climbers but I thought it was worth the bulk/weight due to ease of climbing (using the rail to sit on) and comfort for long sits.

I'm a big guy buying my very first climber stand soon, and this video has helped me so much. It has given me the confidence I need to go out, get up a tree, and get my first deer into my freezer. Thank you for the instructional and informative video.

I struggle too because being big also comes with being afraid of heights. I’ve deer hunted since 1975 and i was terrified of climbing into the stands made of wood that my dad built. Climbing in the dark isn’t bad especially with a harness I’m more confident.

I really appreciate that video, very informative. I just recently got big into deer hunting and my dad isn’t in good enough shape to teach me a lot of the stuff I’ve taught myself. That being said, the climber stands seem a lot easier then what I was told, safer too.

I always bring a small ratchet strap to tighten the top piece of the climber where i sit to the tree for extra security and also I have two pull tight straps that I hook to the front part of the cableS to secure them to the tree extra tight so that it’s pretty much locked to the tree all the way around.
@malisengjabum5959
@malisengjabum5959 3 жыл бұрын
You are right. One time when I tried to sit, due to my wet boots I slipped and top piece moved to the left and I fell. Fortunately, I have the the safety string attached. The top part should be secured before we sit so that it won't move easily. I always carry a knife on my waist in case I fall and the safety string strangles me, I will cut it loose to let me free as soon as possible. Anything could happen when we are up on a tree.

You also need to practice this before hand. Don't show up at three am day of and try to figure it all out for the first time in the cold and dark; get comfortable with it first. Practice packing it in with your weapon with your full kit on. Make sure you have a plan for humping your stand and gear plus your kill out afterwards. And carry a phone or radio (turned off, obviously) in your first aid kit, just in case. All deer stands fail from time to time. There's no reason not to be prepared for the worst.

@@brandonlawhon2097 first hunt I got up successfully. Shot a good size buck and it dropped instantly. I was so excited until reality hit. I never figured out how to get down. The excitement and panicking made me freak out, plus no signal for a youtube video. I ended up just lowering myself down with a rope i brought to pull up my gear and all my stuff off the stand. I drug the deer a whole 2 miles till I got to where we were supposed to meet. We stayed at a hotel near by and three days later after packing up. Some guys pull up to the hotel excited because they found a free tree stand. I was like well, at least someone got it down and pretty much got made fun of the whole 4hr drive to the house. I knew it was mine because it still had the rope tied. They were like "I guess some dumbass never learned how to get down.

Great video! I would never feel safe with a climbing stand like the one in the video. I have an old school Tree Lounge that I bought in 1980, it's all aluminum construction, there are no cables or straps to worry about rusting or rotting away over time.

Haul rope: I suggest two. One for thee bow and one for you pack. And the clips.. Use a dog lead snap. Walmart $2,50 & they have green ones. Also stabilizer straps are a great way make fhe stand rock solid. You can buy them or make your own. All my climbers have them.

Chuck - My Summit came with one, and they specifically said in the instructions to use it to secure the top section to the tree, just as you have stated. Also a good idea to attach a rope to the top portion of the climber and the safety harness buckle that's around the tree. That way if you do fall and happen to knock the climber loose it doesnt fall out of your reach so you can get seated again.

jk, Have the top part about waist high and put all of your weight on it. Pull up the bottom section just enough that it comes free, and point your toes downward, and lower it as far as feels comortable. Test it to make sure it's hooked in the bark good. Then lower the top of the stand back down to your waist again.
