We're not getting the results we want from engineers we've been paying so I'm hoping to get to the point that I can do the final editing for our band for free. Downloaded some free PDF's for the basic science behind compression, mixing, mastering, etc. but it doesn't go as in depth as I need it to (especially for my specific DAW). Any recommendations on videos or links for more info on pre-release track completion? (been working on fl for around 8 years, just always put way more time into melodic composition than the science behind the final sound)

11:32 according to FL manual that's not exactly true: they both start after the sustain time (I also tested it, and that's the case): REL1 has an accelerating release curve, REL2 has a decelerating curve, that's the only difference. You can also combine both. Sustain of course affects the starting time of both, but in equal amounts and at the same time (I tried it out with Release curve 1 on both). Fun fact: when Sustain is at RMS, the Sustain time affects the starting of the attack too. Isn't mentioned in the manual either, but there's a big difference when the Sustain is long. According to FL manual " - Specifically, this sets the duration over which the input is averaged (RMS), from 0 to 1000 ms. The effect is to control compressor sustain time and prevents the compression envelope from releasing too early" but this is only part of the truth - when the RMS is selected, it also sets the time during which input is averaged also for the attack curve. If the threshold is not exceeded, the compression won't start - I've tried this out many times. It's funny that the manual doesn't even tell this c: Also, you can use the LMH bands with an adjustable LMH lookahead delay to make prematurily releasing envelopes by using the RMS-setting of the sustain, with big sustain values and big LMH lookahead delays. This is because the signal processing is in real time whereas the audio comes afterwards, so it's possible to start the release already before the audio even comes out (premature releasing of the envelope). Idk why this plugin is so addictive

Sorry but this should be retitled "Beginners guide to using Maximus". Its like watching an intermediate trying to sound like a pro. Your explainations of gain, saturation and ceiling are aweful, and how you explain attack, release, and sustain is just plain wrong. If your going to make "how to" videos at least make sure you know what everything does, and give situations as to when you would use them.
