How to Use the Omen Light Studio

Күн бұрынIf you are new to the Omen Light Studio, you may wonder where to start... Here is a quick guide for you and your RGB needs!! Read the description for a note...
IMPORTANT: This only works for models with 4 zones RGB (in laptops. It's a different story with desktops). So, it does not work if you have single colour backlight, such as red or white.
This is because you need specific LEDs under each key to display different colours. It's purely a hardware feature.
The reason why you still have the app is because it is designed to work for other peripherals too, such as RGB omen mouse or keyboards.
NOTE:
Make sure that your BIOS is updated to the latest version available for your device.
This is important, otherwise you may have the RGB lightings, but they won't change at all.
Also, if you're an Intel user, you'd lose out on in-software undervolting!! (This is a feature for Intel 9th gen and higher)
DISCLAIMER: This likely works for the newer models, so intel 9th and 10th Gen, as well as the newly released AMD variants. Compatibility with 8th Gen and back is not guaranteed.

Hi there, i was having this problem of the omen light studio was showing my PC and running the effects but i could not visualise it on my Keyboard. After doing all steps and upgrade all softwares i was with no lights. But now i found the problem and was that the 2 softwares ( Omen Gaming hub and Omen light Studio) has to be installed on the same storage ( windows main storage). Than you night eye one more time. Your help was nice to reach the solucion. Take care

all i think is now tht the interactive is only available to per key rgb config so....i would think tht it is only available to i7 with rtx 2070 max q config

hola, en el Omen Light Studio me aparecen computadora y mouse como si funcionaran correctamente pero el teclado esta solo en el modo Static regido por Omen basic cuando yo nunca se lo ordene tengo una Omen HP 15 , el equipo es nuevo la adquirí hace unos días, tiene un mouse es un Omen Vector HP de cable y este si funciona según se lo indique , el teclado no es externo viene integrado en la computadora y es de 4 zonas RGB , tengo las configuraciones correctas , la BIOS actualizada , según el HP Assistent el equipo está al día, el teclado y el mouse ahora funcionan de moda asíncrona , cuando no debe ser así a menos que se le ordené pero no lo hice y no se puede configurar el teclado con el Omen Light Studio desde hace 2 días , el solo se cambio a estático así de un momento a otro pero esto a raíz de la última actualización del Omen Gaming Hub ya probé de todas las maneras posibles, que he podido , inclusive formateándola de fabrica y nada que funciona, no deja sincronizarlo ni configurarlo bajo el Omen Light Studio siendo que es totalmente compatible con el equipo y así el Omen Light Studio esté en fase "beta" me queda totalmente a deber , simplemente no se soluciona el teclado sigue en modo estático y el mouse corriendo bien, espero alguién que lo lea pueda brindarme una opinión o que le esté pasando lo mismo para orientarnos

@Daniel Ramírez Luna Have you tried reverting to a previous build of Windows? Sometimes updates can mess up the system. Happened to me a couple it times. Edit: this is only if you have updated windows recently.

when i open the light studio through the omen app. doesnt show any laptop photo. its blank. i have the HP omen 17, and my keuboard is luminated red. is it not supported?

Hi. You cannot use the light studio to change the keyboard lighting as you need specific LEDs under each key to display different colours. You can still use the light studio for other Omen devices that you may have connected to you laptop, such a Omen mouse or an Omen keyboard. These would need to be RGB enabled.

my wave function only works with omen galaxy as colors with the other options only 1 key row ( from top to bottom) is colored and moves from left ro right, only with galaxy colors the whole keyboard is glowing- is this normal? I have the omen sequencer keyboard

Right, for those of you who are not aware of it, to activate the keyboard lighting, use Fn + F4 Key combination.

@@VijayYadav-vm6fo there a few things that you need. You must be on the latest bios and windows update, and your machine has to have the ability to have different coloured RGB keys. One static colour does not count. Also, keep in mind this is still a beta release. It could be a bug. Which laptop model do you have?

I have HP omen 15-ek0025TX and my bios is fully updated but i dont know about different static colour in keyboard when i turn on backlight only red colour is visible but i want different colours but do you know in hp omen command center there is a option know as lightning that option is not visible in my omen gaming hub

@@VijayYadav-vm6fo Ok, got it. Unfortunately, your model only comes with the red colour keyboard. It cannot be changed through software. You can check this with a quick search for your laptop model.

The interactive is when you press a key, that key lights up... Normally all people having problems with this have a keyboard with color regions (you can only select a color for every region instead for any key). So you cant use the interactive because you cant color a single key.

That makes perfect sense. I am not aware of any Omen laptop with individual RGB keys.

Alright. If you are sure that your laptop has all the right configurations to run the software, but cannot make it work, and you have updated both BIOS and Windows to the latest version, then wait for the global version. It is just a matter of time.

For some reason, I don't see that laptop like you have when you launch light studio. It's just a blank grid. Does it save your configuration automatically? Or do you have to manually save each preset (layer)?

Right. You have to make sure that your laptop has RGB keys, for example 4 zones. If you have 1 colour only, that does not count. If you do not see your laptop there, make sure that you are on the latest bios and windows update.

And yes, once set it remains saved. You can toggle between different layers in the effects tab if you have more than one configured.

Hi @Night Eye soo mine is working but only the left zone will display all the colors, while the middle zone and right zone only will display the colors red, green or yellow and/or orange. If I try to click on a blue, purple or any of the others colors it just goes to a red or green. Any idea why???

@xahmazing01 Oh! That sounds interesting. I have not yet encountered a similar problem. Would you be able to send a picture of the keyboard layout and the keyboard showing the problem you are describing? You can do so in my discord server, or DM me directly. As an initial suspicion, I am guessing that something is up with the driver. Might also be worth reinstalling the light studio altogether.

I just got the Omen 15 with Ryzen 7 and 1660 ti and occasionally I will see the screen flicker for just a moment. It's not all the time, sometimes I won't see it for a while but then it will happen randomly. Have you noticed this with yours? And this problem is different than the full screen flicker that seems to happen when the computer auto switches gpu's. That I understand and can live with.

I have never had that particular problem. That said, I have had problems after a recent windows update. Every time I tried to change the volume, the computer would freeze. Reverting to a previous version of windoes solved the problem for me. I then stopped updates for about a month, then updated to the latest version again. Not had a problem since then. If you had a recent update, maybe try that. I know your problem was common on laptops of various brands, and it seems Nvidia has been working on fixing this. As a temporary fix, you can tell the system to only use dGPU for certain apps and leave the iGPU on for the rest.

I have a Razer Blackwidow keyboard, can i sync that with the ligting on the computer? so that they follow the same pattern and show the same color ?

@Sebstr Sorry, I am not sure, as I never did that myself with a non-omen device. My guess is that it won't. For it to sync, it would need to be recognized in the light studio app. If it does get recognized, there's a good chance you might by able to sync it.

@Edward Berryman Not that I am aware of. It may be different for keyboards with per key RGB, but for 4 zones it is the same no matter what the volume level is.

I didn't get the interactive at first but I figured it out and it makes it so when you hit a key it creates an effect like if you dropped a rock into a pond and ripples expanded out and away. It's pretty cool. I think I paid an extra hundred and something bucks to have this keyboard custom added and it was worth it.

The software is designed to control the lighting for all the Omen products with RGB capability that work alongside your laptop. Not all devices have the ability to display multiple RGB, so basic lighting is the only setting they can access. If your laptop doesn't show up in the layout tab, it either means it doesn't work for you, or you have to update bios and windows to the latest available version. This is assuming you have a laptop with RGB keyboard, such as the 4 zones in the video.

Listen to me guys, if you have an OMEN with RGB on 4 Zones, but you can't run Light Studio or yor laptop doesn't appear, just try to reset your laptop on they factory setting keeping your information, it works!

@Kei Keine I am going to assume you have a 4 zone RGB model and not a single colour backlight such as just red or white. I recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the gaming hub itself.

Ah, yes. You can change the angle of the wave. At the bottom right (where the weird guy covers the screen) there is a knob that you can turn, below the speed dial. I think I had mine set at 90 degrees for the angle.

Okay so...the laptop came with preset lighting setup. I installed light studio just to check it out and on opening the light studio it changed my keyboard lighting to the wave setting. I like it and all but I cant find a setting to change it back to the default setting it came with that I liked. do I have to recreate it in a new layer or uninstall light studio. I don't know I need help. Thanks

@Brent Hudson Open the gaming hub, your laptop, lighting section. It will ask you whether you want to use basic or advanced lighting. Use the basic one. This will bring out the usual static lighting tab. At the bottom somewhere you'll find an option to reset to the original layout.

@Colorit Academy Unfortunately, in this case the light studio cannot change the colour of the laptop keyboard. This is because you need specific LEDs under each key to display different colours, which is the case for 4 zones RGB. The reason why you still have the app is because you can use if you have other Omen devices connected to the laptop that support RGB, like external mouse and keyboard.

@Driss R The keyboard backlight effects will work on the 4 zones RGB models. When purchasing the product, make sure the vendor mentions "4 zone RGB" in the product description. And yes, it works on both AMD and intel models, but again, you need to make sure it's a 4 zones RGB model.

I own an HP Omen EN0023DX and when playing audio at max volume I get a static-like/high pitched noise. Is this a common issue or is there anything I can do to try and fix it? I might just exchange it, but I want to try and fix it first. Thanks!

Try this: go into device manager. Look for Realtek High definition audio. Right click, properties. Now uninstall the driver. Restart the laptop. Go back to the driver and now do update driver. Let me know if this works.

@@ganja4024 ok, try the same with the Realtek audio and the Nvidia high definition audio. If this also doesn't work, then it might be a problem with the speaker itself. Check if there is any dust through the speaker holes, and remove any that might be stuck in there. If the problem persist after that too, then it might be worth returning it, depending on how much it bothers you.

I am afraid you cannot use the light studio for your keyboard, as it lacks the required RGB LEDs under each key to display different colours. You can however still use the light studio for any other compatible RGB Omen product.

Have you updated your BIOS to the latest version? Also, can you set the keyboard to have different colours in the basic lighting section?

@@nighteye5253 I don't know about the BIOS, but i bought the laptop yesterday, everything should be up to date. As for the colours the only thing i can do is turn the lights on and off from the keyboard. The light studio doesn't do anything. Also thank you very much for the fast reply

In the gaming hub, do you have an option for lighting near the performance tab? If not, does the keyboard light up white or red? As for the BIOS update, you can check here: support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c00042629 Despite the laptop being new, nobody other than you touched it since production, so any new BIOS update since then would have to be installed by you.

@@nighteye5253 by "performance tab" i assume you mean from the home screen to click on the omen 15 tab and from there to click "performance control" - if that is the case i don't have an option for lighting. If that is not the case I still don't have that option anywhere (except the light studio tab of course). The light from the keyboard is white. As for the BIOS I don't want to touch anything there. That's fine. Because you have a white backlight, even updating the BIOS won't help. There are different variants for some models, with and without RGB keyboard. In your case, you can't use the omen light studio to change the colour, although you can still use the app for other Omen devices you may have. Sorry for the disappointment.

The troubleshooting timestamp, It was really short and I couldn't do anything to solve the problem, I have an omen 15 laptop that supports RGB colors, 8th gen, when i run the light studio, the laptop DOES NOT show up at all, is there any way I could fix this and omen lightning hub detect the laptop? Edit: The default color is red on the keyboard, and can be toggled (off/on/only W,S,A,D)

@თორნიკე ხეჩიკაშვილი Hi. When developed, the light studio was designed to only work for devices that came after a certain time. So, intel 9th and 10th gen omen and amd omens which have 4 zone RGB enabled. A few users with intel 8th gen have been able to make it work (those with 4 zone rgb only), but again, it is not officailly supported. As for your keyboard, you say you only have red backlight. If that is the case, the light studio will not work for your keyboard. You need specific LEDs under each key to display different colours. The reason why you still have the app is because it is also designed to work for other omen devices, such as omen RGB keyboards and mouse, which are connected to your laptop.

It looks like you have red backlight keyboard. The Omen light studio requires 4 zones RGB at least to work, as you need the dedicated hardware to change colour. If your keyboard has indeed only red light, then I'm afraid the omen light studio will not work for you.

If your keyboard has just red backlight, I'm afraid not. You need the other green and blue LEDs under the keys for it to work.

Just to make sure that what I am saying is correct, can you go into the gaming hub, then on the left click on your laptop, and at the top you have your usual tabs, such as system vitals, performance control and such. There should NOT be a tab called lighting. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I assume you are referring to the omen key on the keyboard. Restarting the laptop usually fixes the problem. If you can't switch it off, then you can search for the program on the windows search bar as a preliminary solution. Going forward, I recommend checking for Windows updates. If you had one recently, then I suggest looking at reverting to a previous version.

You have the mica silver single zone backlight. The reason why you still have the light studio app is because it works for separate omen keyboards and mice that have RGB, when you connect them to your machine.

@Riicho Bamin If you want to assign different colours and different effects to each zone, you have to create more layers. In the layer tab, create a new layer. The topmost layer will overwrite any layer below. So, for example, you can have a still blue colour on all zones as your background. Then create a new layer, move it on top of the list, and select a zone you want to modify. Say for example you want the wasd key to be red. You select that zone, make it red, and it will overwrite it's original blue colour.

@Denislav Zlatanov You cannot change the backlight by changing the keys. The RGB is not on the keys themselves. As far as I know, there is no official way of changing the backlight on these laptops.

@Denislav Zlatanov Technically speaking, you could remove the top keyboard cover and replace it with one that has 4 zones RGB. It's really not an easy process and you'll have to dismantle the laptop completely. But if you manage to do that, you then have to find a replacement top cover with 4 zone RGB for your laptop. There are replacements top covers for older hp omen 15 models, such as 2019. I couldn't find anything for newer models, but maybe you'll have better luck.

@@elijahjohnson4623 So, if you go on the gaming hub, click on your computer tab, then go into lighting, you'll see basic lighting. Click into that and see if you have the option to select a different colour. If not, the red backlight is what you have. If that is the case, the omen light studio cannot change the keyboard lights, but will work for other Omen products you might have that are RGB enabled.

What you can do is create a new layer and click on the zone that you want to change. For the other layers, click on the other zones. (You can press ctrl + click to select multiple zones). On the left hand side, where you have the layers, set them all to visible (there is an eye icon). The top layers are priorities, so even if you don't deselect the layer at the bottom it's fine. It only becomes a problem if for example your top layer becomes unlit (for example in audio visualiser), in which case the layer underneath will become visible.

@JerryeatCheese Can you tell me what laptop you have? You need to have an AMD 4000 or intel 9th gen or higher omen laptop that has a 4 zones RGB keyboard. So laptops that have keyboard lighting that is only white or red cannot change the colours, and will therefore not appear in the app.

Rant start. It kind of sucks that there is only 4 zones to edit. It is most noticeable with the wave effect as the zones break up the effect. The direction knob helps to even it out. Really hope they would release an update to get that effect smooth. Rant over.

@Toren Tank 4 zones RGB is a hardware feature, with four different controllers attached to different parts of the keyboard bed (as far as I can tell). So no update should in theory allow you to make that a per key RGB. It would be nice, but reality is sad.

@Brayan J.L When you select the zones in the Omen light studio app, are you selecting all the zones together or separately? Also, how many layers do you have? If you have more than one layer, make sure to remove those layers. The easiest way is to delete all the layers and make a new one.

@JMah You need specific per key hardware for that. These laptops only come with 4 independent lighting zones, so individual key RGB is not possible. Some external omen keyboards do offer per key RGB, and can be customised in the light studio. But the same applies for other external keyboard with this feature, which may have their own software for that.

@Samiio_on As far as I can tell, the ideapad laptops don't have RGB keyboards (if they have backlight, then it's single white colour, which is not rgb). If you are referring to a different laptop, then you have to look for a company specific app. For Omen gaming laptops it's the omen light studio, for Lenovo legion gaming laptops I think they use iCUE by Corsair. But again, you need RGB lighting, not single colour.

@Samiio_on Sorry. You need specific LEDs under each key to display different colours. As for animation, they need a specific driver that the company has to release. But there are no such drivers for single colour backlight as far as I am aware. So, no app can change single colour backlight. You can only turn them on or off and sometimes change the brightness, if that is supported.

@Aditya Mishra There are two variants of this model, so the easiest way to know is to just check the keyboard. Do you have a single red or white backlight, or are you able to change the colours in the gaming hub (not the light studio).

@@nighteye5253 first sorry for replying you s so late and second sorry for the mentioning the wrong model number, i have the ek0017tx one and yeah this works absolutely fine on it, i mean all the dynamic effects are working good. well, no this model has has 4 zone rgb, so in the omem command centre or gaming hub, it's splitted to four different colours, and talking about single colour, that's the static one in light studio, you know that. i don't have any issues now, thanks brother for helping me out 🙌🏼

@Mugdha Gadekar I assume you have single colour backlight and not 4 zones RGB. The light studio can't change single colour backlight, as the laptop lacks specific LEDs under each key to do so.
