I noticed that some walmarts have dedicated self service registers for Scan and Go. That's a step in the right direction. Still, as far as I'm concerned, all Scan and Go does is change where you scan the items. If I have to use a register anyway, I might as well do all my scanning there.

I agree that the Scan and Go isn't what it could be. Honestly, if I could just show my phone as I was going out the door, that would make it totally worth it. I suppose there is some value with a running tally of how much you're spending as you go through the store, but otherwise, it doesn't help a whole lot.

Well i am glad to see how this works. The name implies that I scan items and just walk out the door. Didnt know you need to still waiting in line at a register

I know, right? It's not the perk that I had hoped it would be. Hopefully at some point you'll be able to just show the receipt on your phone on the way out.

Yes specifically in places that always are crowded, the fact that you need to do the line ruin the whole purpose, I feel that sams have it figured it out

You are definitely on point, I was hoping it would be the same as Sam’s Club Scan and Go with being able to show your barcode from your phone to an attendant as you leave.

RIGHT! That's what I was thinking too, that you scan Pay on your phone and GO out the door. If I still have to wait in line, it doesn't seem like much of a benefit.

Thank you for the video. I was wondering if I have to go to the checkout line (ours is always busy) at the end. Left not buying items in the past due to long lines. Not worth the membership fee if I still have to stand in line at the end. Yes Sam's scan and go is great!

I agree, though I get a lot of use out of the membership that still makes it worth it for me, but Scan and Go isn't one of the reasons it's worth it. If you think Scan and Go is the only reason you'd get it, then definitely skip it until they allow you to show your phone the person on the way out the door.

I have a question about the app.I watched a person in front of me putting all their items in bags( several) and the screen on the self checkout only said “ to begin checkout start scanning”. Is this correct

How do you do things that need weighed? I love the idea, but then you have to still wait in line.

The scales in the produce section display a QR code after you weigh your produce, which you then scan.

I think going to self checkout is pretty dumb. Scan and go implies that i scan and pay in the app and then leave the store. Having to stand in line (very often) at self checkout is pretty dumb when all the tech is there for me to just process through the app then leave. I don't think I'm going to keep my subscription after the trial is up. If they'd make it actually a scan and go then I'd keep it in a heartbeat

I hear you on that! I have heard that for a long time, at Sam's Club, you can scan things and then just show your phone on the way out of the store - and not stand in line at all. That would be awesome. My guess is that at least at the Neighborhood Market where I go, you have to use the self check thing because there isn't always someone at the door. I'm not sure if it's different at the Walmart Supercenter or not. As I mentioned, though, I almost always do pick up and shipping, and seldom shop in store. But it would be a great feature if you didn't have to stand in line.

@StockingMyPantry I agree it should be the same as in Sam's Club waiting for a register to be available to scan makes no sense since I've already paid have a worker at the door just like Sam's Club

@@lovinglifeandmakeup y- you are right that it makes no sense! It doesn't really impact me since I almost always do pick up or shipping, but I don't think I would use it much if at all if I actually shopped in store.

Looks like a great way for more people to steal products. I see it all the time at self-checkout and the employees rarely check receipts. When they do check a receipt, like mine for example, they barely scan over the information and send me on my way. Makes me think Walmart's trying to go bankrupt with intentionality.

Thank you for uploading! Just FYI, your Giant Eagle may have this option as well. It does not cost anything extra for self checkout at Giant Eagle. You need a Giant Eagle Advantage Loyalty Card account which is free. They have a separate kiosk for check out as well. I never wait to check out at Giant Eagle. I will give Walmart a try though!

You're very welcome. You can do self check out at Walmart for free also. This is more being able to scan things as you put them into your cart. But it doesn't help a whole lot compared to scanning them at check out.

Good question! I haven't tried that yet, since I usually do pick up. But it does seem like you'd have to do that at the register since they have to be weighed.

@@StockingMyPantry At the Walmart I shop at they have digital scales in the produce department that when you place your produce on it it shows a QR code on the screen that you scan with the app to enter the weight when using scan & go.

Well that's pretty stupid. I use Scan and Go in Sam's Club all the time and once I check out on my phone, I head for the door to have the door person check, just like they would anyone else. What is the point of calling it Scan and Go if you have to go to a register?

Technically at Sam's Club the person at the door has to scan your phone, so the only difference at Walmart is you scan your phone yourself. It could be great if self checkout lines are free of people, or it suck if there's a line at self checkout. Same at Sam's Club. It sucks when you have wait in line while everyone one is getting scanned out the door.

Sadly all these apps and self checkouts have the consumer do all the work employees use to do and had put people out of work. We shop, we empty our carts, we ring our purchases up, we bag our purchases and we pay for it all with increasing prices. So when do we get paid by the stores for all we do? Why aren’t they discounting us for the work we do for which they use to pay employees? The only ones gaining from all of this is the store’s bottom line. I won’t do any of it and if there is no other way, I go somewhere else…,or rather go online where they bring it right to my do…the heck with Walmart and the like.

Is funny, as I'm reading this, I'm sitting in my car, as a Walmart employee who did the shopping for me is loading groceries in the trunk for me. . . All at no additional cost. The way I see it, we have many options, and I'm grateful.

Workers are not being replaced. Walmart now has grocery pick up and delivery (the associates gather, bag and deliver your stuff), and cashiers trade off overseeing the self-checkout and running a register. No one is losing jobs. In fact, they’re hurting for help. Besides ringing up items and putting them in a bag, you do all the work anyways, so I don’t see why also scanning and bagging it yourself is such a big deal. If you’re too good for it, use the pick up or delivery option. Then an associate will do all the work for you for barely over minimum wage, and your privilege stays in tact.

@@amberwolf80 At last, the voice of reason. I've always used self checkout, but recently I saw an attended checkout where the customer was just finishing getting rung up, so I went there. After the cashier rang up the customer she immediately started to ring me up. Normally I'd start bagging my groceries while the cashier is ringing them up, but the customer before me was still bagging hers. As the cashier finished ringing my items up and the customer before me was gone I started bagging them. While I was bagging my stuff, the cashier just stood there watching (not helping at all), until another shopper came up, when the cashier started ringing her stuff up and shoving it toward my stuff. Both I and the customer after me had to tell the checker to stop scanning. There was absolutely *_no_* advantage to using the attended checkout. At the self-checkout I can go as fast of slow as I want, without someone pushing another's groceries on front of me. And yes, the local Walmart, as well as all the other stores have help wanted signs out, so they're not firing employees.

@@JohnBGood-kq3ul I haven’t used a cashier controlled checkout since they made self checkout a thing. Now I also have Walmart+, and plan on giving the Scan & Go option a try so I can bypass it altogether, but need to get some reusable bags made first. I just wish people would stop complaining about self checkout, and how they should get paid or rewarded for using it. Like, seriously? It’s gotten so bad in some places that they’re starting to do away with self checkouts, because too many are complaining, or using it as a means to steal merchandise. These people are why the rest of us can’t have nice things.

We rarely shop at any walmart in my area because of the employees and the customers. It's like dealing with xmas eve every day of the year. But even if I could use walmart without ever having to deal with an employee, it's depressing to see some woman in pink floppies, wearing a pink onesie looking like a bubble gum michelin man (or woman in this case) and wearing one of those pink hair covers over pink hair rollers. I don't know if 'depressing' is the right word but I can do without the experience. Most of what we buy is at the warehouse mart twice a week and the grocery store or online, and much better prices too. Until the other day I don't think we've been in walmart for years. We signed up thru amex for %50 but that's a joke. True, if you purchase more than 35$ of qualified items, delivery charge is free but then they pester you to death to tip and even if you tip, they ended up throwing our groceries in the dirt in front of our house because this is the southwest with no grass. You get no notification at all when they deliver and so the grocery bags sit there in the dirt until we discover them or somebody walking by grabs them.

They're charging for those flimsy ass bags now?! I personally love the staff at my local walmarts they are great in customer service and do an excellent job at keeping the store clean and organized but DAMN WTF is corporate smoking? I'll just carry all my crap if i have to i'm not paying even a penny for those flimsy ass plastic bags. TBH it was already bad enough that corporate wants to make rules that can not be enforced at all. IE if you bring your pet into walmart NONE of the staff not even management can ask you if it's a service animal. If they do they can be fired. I know this as i used to work for walmart until i became too sick to continue.

Actually, the bags at Walmart are super sturdy compared to bags at other stores. This may be a California thing, as ALL stores charge for bags here. The ones at Walmart are worth reusing at least. Also, when I do grocery pick up, they give me an option to get bags or not. When they bring stuff to the car, they will pack it in whatever bags I happen to have in my trunk. I haven't paid for bags for a couple of years because the ones that I paid for are sturdy enough to be used dozen of times. Again, this may be a California thing, and may not be the case where you live. Also, if you bring random bags into the store, they will pack them for you. Or you can carry stuff out in your hands or in the cart. It's honestly not a big deal.

Actually, I think they charge you for bags both places, unless you bring your own bags. At least that is the way it is in California. It may vary state-by-state.
