I had to come back here to tell you that this video single-handedly is responsible for me returning to hiking and getting back on the Appalachian Trail for another 100 miles after the first 100 resulted in severe knee pain. Thank you so much! Hips forward when going uphill and walking downhill like you would walk uphill backward changed my life. Just can't thank you enough!

Sir, you are changing my life!!!! I cannot thank you enough! Wish I'd known this earlier in my life. At 71, I am proof that it is never too late to learn to walk a new way. It is so natural. I walked my usual trail for the first time in this new way. It was slower because I wanted to be sure of my foot strike but It proved itself to be more efficient as I finished 5 min earlier than normal. How is that???!!! God bless you and thanks again!

Watching this video, with detailed instructions, well explained, and so helpful, I find myself wondering what is this feeling I get from watching this video, and all of these videos from Grown and Healthy? I have the feeling of having a Personal Trainer. All these videos are for free and everyone is made with profound experiential and anatomical knowledge and showing excellent skills of communication. I feel honored watching the videos, because every one of them is made with such high sense of quality, and I am inspired everyday to explore and experiencing my body in a new way whenever I am walking, or working on developing my walking skills. Thank you!

Awesome video! It seems from what I see that the heel strikers are missing ankles mobility! I really enjoy trail running and found that by loosening my ankles it really helped me to reduce my hill striking. I now land my foot under my center of mass instead of in front of it. It made my running uphill and down-hill so much easier! I found that the gate used for walking and running has so much similarity. The only difference that I see is the cadence is so high while running that it is impossible to keep both feet at the same time on the ground but other then that the gate is very similar. No rolling forward required while the foot is on the ground for either walking or running. Thank you for producing those video as your explanations are so clear and to the point it allows me to pick-up points that I did not notice before.

I find your videos great and I've been wearing zero drop and barefoot shoes for years for my running. However, due to a recent injury I have taken up fastwalking (not racewalking!) to stay active. I'm walking fast, sometimes under 7 min per KM. I was wondering if you could do a video to show a nice technique for fastwalking, including on hills? All of the videos online for fastwalking are using the straight leg, heel strike, which is used for racewalking. I don't want to do that. Thanks for any tips

Great info. I have been using your videos to improve my walking and it has tremendously helped my knee pain. Currently traveling in Lisbon Portugal and there are lots of steep inclines on cobblestone. Can these mechanics apply when pushing a stroller? I’ve been trying to use a forefoot strike but sometimes too steep to where I must lean back and at worst use a half and half forefoot/heel to keep the stroller from running away. Thanks again as I just started watching your videos a couple weeks ago as I may have a fallen arch in my left foot which happens to be where my knee pain is. Doc says I have some arthritis in that knee as well. I also compensate with my right leg which has caused the right psoas area to be very tight along with lower back issues on the right. So am looking to fix this as I have used a heel strike for most of my life.

Hi there. Having flat feet, I came across your channel to find out how to maintain my arch while walking. I've implemented a lot of what you said. I try to walk 5km every day, and while this was tough the first few days (Engaging muscles that that I have never engaged before, within a week I could feel it becoming simpler. Yesterday, I even managed to improve my time from over an hour to just over 50 minutes. HOWEVER: Afterwards, I experienced Capsulitis just before my second toe. I did walk with open foot sandals - I never liked normal walking shoes because they always feel uncomfortable. The Capsulitis wasn't serious, it was gone the next day. But some videos says that Capsulitis develop due to a lack of cushioning on your front foot and can get worse if not treated. They also mentioned how this can be worse if you have a bunion, but luckilly I don't have that. Is there any advice you can give for this? PS. Two days ago I thought I'd just do a hill strike again for a few seconds to compare the two. I couldn't believe the shock of the impact that I never noticed before.

Do you see a correlation between right-hip torsion and plantar fasciitis pain on one side? in my case, my iliopsoas is very tight and weak on the right side of my body, which creates a functional leg length difference. They gave me orthopaedic insoles and told me to wear shoes precisely like the ones you're advising not to wear. But I know in my mind that I need to invest time in hip mobility and strength and to re-learn how to walk with a mid-foot strike instead of a heel strike. I'm curious to hear your thoughts.

Does this apply to stairs as well? I not only live in San Francisco where the hills are much steeper and longer but I work cleaning houses where I have to go up and down stairs many times daily.

About 3 miles up the road there’s an intersecting road on the left side of me when I go walking, that road is or seems to go up at a 90 degree angle almost like the Superman roller coaster at six flags New England I was curious if i would possibly fall backwards on my behind on the way up. I don’t really do what you’re teaching in the video when I do go out for a walk but my road has a few uphill inclines as well only not às steep. I don’t exercise much but I still don’t have any problems with getting uphill on my road but going down it looks like I’m running down hill but trying not to while also trying to break and slow down my pace , the problem with that is that it’s technically still winter and there’s some patches of icy road. However what I’m mostly interested in is that other road, should I try it or do you think I might hurt myself upon attempting to walk it?

If we still wear normal shoes with thick padding, how should we walk? For some people, they want to try walking the forefoot strike way but still using their existing shoes. Is this possible?
@GrownandHealthy
@GrownandHealthy Жыл бұрын
I wear barefoot shoes only. Depending on the style of the shoe, it will be very difficult to walk in the same manner. But, if they are at least zero drop, like a Converse Chuck Taylor or Vans, you should be able to.
