Conflicting interest. James Bond is a killer but he often saves competing female spies. Give your killer a sense of honor that the non killer can respect.

@@crystalross2284 how can I write a cold blooded killer having honor? So the other character that isn't a cold blooded killer can respect the cold blooded killer?

@@bridgetteanimations9996 Depends on your character. Sometimes, it could be that they don't kill anyone they haven't been assigned or paid to kill. They don't kill kids, is often used. They only kill people who they think are making the world worse. Or something more arbitrary, like a refusal to kill an unarmed person or kill a person from behind. This would allow you to show that the killer is giving his/her mark a chance to defend themselves even if it's riskier for him/her. Really depends on why your cold bloodied killer is a killer. Just think Dexter, he is a serial killer who killed other criminals. Two-Face spared people by a flip of a coin despite personal opinion. Nikita, the original 80-90s movie not newer show, she was a train assassin and only killed her assign people and people who interrupted her job but not anyone else. Vampire Hunter D kills other vampires and their cohorts but usually minds his own business. Also depends a bit on the world your character is in. V for Vendetta had a huge authorian dictatorship, killing the heads would be a just cause. If it's more low-key, it could be like the Punisher who kills all the people who the justice system let slip through the cracks. It really depends on your genre, your world, and your character. Why does you cold blooded killer kill and why does the non-killer need them in their life?

@@crystalross2284 well, my situation is I have a killer who kills children and another character who doesn't kill children but mainly kills adults and this character cares for children. The cold blooded killer kills children from their traumatized past while the other character kills adults due to seeing how adults in society are cruel especially to children from their eyes

@@bridgetteanimations9996 That is a direct conflict of interest. I'm guessing you need the one who kills adults to respect the one who kills kids? I thought from your first comment that one if them was a civilian but they are both killers. You're going to have a problem because they directly conflict with the ethos of the other, like Batman and Joker. You would have to put the weight of the blame on the kids, like the killer knows they will turn into serial killers in the future or some other horrendous future. Otherwise, there is no logical reason for the two of them to respect the other. Could have fun with a cat and mouse chase where the one who kills the adults who hurt children hunts down the child killer. Maybe a respect for how he evaded the law? But mostly it would be hatred and disgust. Emotional trauma doesn't justify killing enough to earn someone's respect. So you have to make the defect on the kids and it has to be absolute, kind of like Minority Report three precogs were, or your audience will be thrown out of your story.
