I'm usually inspired by own life or someone I see, by another poet's performance (typically a phrase in their poem), or by art/music. It When all sparks creativity for me. Nw, when I write, I usually hear the musicality in my head. It's just a matter of remembering it when I go back to memorize the poem that I struggle with. So what I'm doing to combat that is to type up the poem in my my phone so I can italicize or bold certain words or phrases that I need to stand out in my voice. (And this is something I have to tweak in my brain because usually I use those sort of text options in novel writing so it's different there.) You said recite the words (as you write) so that you hear them aloud, to see if they're worth to be put on paper and to find the musicality in those words. That as long as the poem lives outside of you on a page or on your mouth, that's what matters. These are the pieces I'm taking away with me still 💕. Thank you!

I'm very inspired after watching your video! Thanks, this will really help a lot. I'm new to spoken word poetry, but I always loved writing. I'm honestly scared to write or perform in our activity, I feel like I wouldn't be good enough, so this video helped me to be more confident. These tips!!! 🔥🔥🔥 also, spoken word poets learns 90% of their poems. And 10% of the time, some poets just reads it from their book or journal. A good example of a reader!poet is Shelby Leigh. An example of a spoken word poet is Rupi Kaur. And I do agree with reading aloud your poems if you are going to perform them. Also these can be acting tips too

hi I want to ask you if age of the writer matters? like I am 12 so does that matter if I want to write a emotional ,encouraging, inspiring poem or is that too much for my age ? pls reply I am a beginner and I want to know because I love the idea of you know inspiring speeches or poems and I wanna get good at it so pls reply you could change my life if you take 2 mins for replying so please reply

Hi! Thanks for watching :) It shouldn't matter what age you are, your story and experiences belong to you and are valid regardless of age. I'd encourage you to write what inspires you and too give voice to your story!

What is the difference between slam poetry and spoken word poetry?

Slam Poetry is poetry you preform at Poetry slams. Spoken word poetry is poetry that is written to be performed. You would generally use a little movement, you know? You don’t have to preform spoken word poetry at slams though. You can preform it in any way, any where. So All Slam poetry is spoken word, but all spoken word isn’t slam poetry. I’m confusing myself, sorry. Hopefully that made sense.

Felt like sharing a poem I wrote, still novice though.. CEREBRAL CORTEX I do what I do, just trying to live like you But I can't understand how our time messing with our mind can rearrange our passion with a touch Feeling like a harden heart of Pharaoh What happened to our devotion of fondness, The warmth of goodness, where we felt like The grace of God in the light of it all, How can Love technically die, and bring Resentment to life full of anger and such Into this world we are born wounded By the Devil and torn cursed by the sight of God Nor understanding the will of enlightenment To bring forth our garden of fruit of knowledge Oh Sin who are you, what's your purpose in my Life, Adam and Eve perfect husband and wife Emotional rollercoaster of lies narrating my mind Condescending and unkind What is suicide and why I know my mind is better than that sticking to a better plan Holy tongue beseeching the Son Where's your lovely ego Creating things seen and unseen And knowing the full embodyment of the Lord Wasn't I born in your name You know you're heart and it's not in vain Watching me sleep for goodness sake Take our breath of life And get rid of that Snake Writer Ryan K Pendley
