As a recently diagnosed RA sufferer/patient (with a history of several autoimmune disorders), this two-part series on RA treatment has really helped me understand the treatment options/progression and how to have some productive conversations with my Rheumatologist. My next challenge is to find an RA physician that is not close to retirement. Thank you again for a great 4-part series on diagnosing and treating RA.

I love your channel, Dr. Ortiz! I’m glad the KZfaq gods recommended it to me. 😂 As a patient (RA/Systemic Sclerosis overlap) it is SO refreshing to see a Rheumatologist on here giving good, valuable, and correct information to patients like me. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing you present in person before at patient conferences in my home city and always enjoyed your talks and information style. I’m looking forward to learning more via your channel now. 🙌🏼

So helpful re medication and control of RA. I'm in UK so issues different for me in some ways. We have a National Health Service which does not involve insurance etc. I was diagnosed 2 years ago and due to covid, could not see my doctor or a rheumatologist for a year. I have been on Naproxen but it offered limited help. Just seen a rheumatologist who has started me on steroids, namely Prednisolone on a gradually reducing dosage until my next visit in a month. My agnonizing knee pain (in particular) ceased immediately and I am only now experiencing very low level discomfort. I know I cannot stay on steroids, so do not yet know what is to come. I'm needle phobic, so requested tablets rather than the knee injection which was initially offered. I am keen to learn as much about RA as possible, so that I can understand why certain meds are offered and prescribed. My life has been utterly miserable for the past 2 years due to terrible pain, my Mother had RA so presumably passed it on to me.

I have HEAVY swelling since about 2.5 years ago. I often wonder if this might be the result of allowing others move the legs. I am paralyzed. I was once narrow and now my gut legs and especially the feet and leg joints are heavily swollen always! I may see a doctor Rheumatologist soon. The swelling began after covid and my assistant left due to her affects of having had covid.

What if anything should one get done (test wise) prior to making an appointment with a Rheumatologist? Tests to rule out other illnesses or certain blood test(s)?

Why are RA patients prescribed cancer drugs to begin with when there are drugs designed for RA? Is it all down to how much the drugs cost? ? ? ?

Hi. You can ask your pharmacist if they would let you or your doctor know if certain combinations of drugs are contraindicated. I believe they do that but you should ask.

Hi, I have RA and was recently in the hospital for covid pneumonia..well today I had a televised appointment with my Rheumatologist which is actually a nurse practioner.. I was telling her how I run out of breath easily and how my chest hurts and she didn't even bother all she was focusing on were my joints.. I have been keeping up with my heart rates and they are almost always around 100-129 rate.. also I developed an awful rash on my face and she didn't care to even look at it Closely all she looked for is the butterfly rash.. I also told her I felt so inflamed from my insides a d even my stomach and like I said her main concern were just my joints and lowering my medication called Rayos from 5mg to 5mg since I have insomnia.. I am desperate for answers

Please someone help me with a hard question. R/A and super protien / 28 vegtables/ 15 fruits / vitiamins/ sort of drink (Ka Chava ). Will taking that product counteract with R/A drugs? What I mean is if meds are to reduce the imune system and the drink increases body health and imune system. would it be wise to stop the drink? Or get healthy by drinking twice a day and small protien dinner. I'm thinking leaky Gut syndrome here. I would like to get off the heavy stuff with no pain. Am I prolonging the effects by 2 things fighting with each other? What say you Doc???

It's like with a steroid injection, it doesn't hurt anymore for up to a year then wham! the pain returns. You're quite probably in remission, not cured.
